- For our 3rd instalment of our BOM Classics series we met Neil Revington who built a small empire over 40 years stemming from a Triumph TR2 sportscar he bought in 1970 for just £70.
Here he recounts the fascinating story of his career of building a business, rallying, racing and restoring classic Triumphs including the renowned works rally Triumphs from the 1960s.

I was so disappointed this wasn't a Binky or the transportation truck vid at first and then I got interested in his fascinating story. Thanks, and please do another vid once he's finished his project?
Me too. It's like watching a great television show that ends abruptly.
The S Cargo.
Finished his project? What channel do you think you are watching?
@@jonatanrullman Binky would never be finished, they'll always be one more job. 🛠🔧🗜
@@jonatanrullman
Well, he (unlike this pair) did set a finish date of before his 70th birthday which is later this year so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn’t get a kink for making brackets (like someone I could mention) and it takes him another decade.
What a captivating video. Love the way Neil tells a story, I was sorry to see it end. 😟
Saw Bad Obsession Motorsport popup and got all excited. But alas no binky
same =(
Same.
The car is basically done. Makes me wonder if they are waiting on other company's to make the interior for them. Been wondering on the Escargot thingy though? Not seen the lorry in ages.
Dito
Literally...the very same reaction! 😂 The last time I had this sense of anticipation was waiting for santa!
Just brilliant thank you a world without people doing things in sheds wouldn't be the world we know today
This episode was filled with emotion. This chap is an incredibly visceral character. His partner helped him recognize his passion and pushed him to pursue his dreams. This is was a very inspiring story. It all begins with a man in a shed…
And a loving wife that allows the man to be in the shed
He was very lucky to meet that lady.
The format this was done in was the winner, the narrative was continuous with no awkward questions getting in the way. My first love was Triumphs and I had a seven speed system in the 80's by leaving out the inhibitor switch and using the gear lever switch. A very good story from a well spoken and confident speaker, I wonder what instigated it.
""we just turned up to have a sprint",, they wernt to happy with that", quality stuff. made me proper chuckle.

Fantastic all round. Amazing photography, editing, music. What a tip bloke. So easy to listen to talking. And something that is often overlooked but clear to see in this film, is a loving, understanding and supportive wife!
We’ll done Richard & Ben!
Thoroughly entertaining
I genuinely enjoyed this one.
Thank you wholeheartedly.
With maturity comes the understanding that the world around us is not a given but the result of human ingenuity and perseverance. It is only recently that I have grasped the tenacity required to create *anything*. Each skyscraper, each suspension bridge, each vaccine, each work of art is a testament to dedication and passion. The world is an immense museum of human effort, each creation whispering stories of pursued dreams and challenges overcome.
This is one of the most lovely documentaries that I have seen in the last 40 years. Quiet, intimate and amazing in the gentle way that Mr. Revington shared his life story and how his passion for Triumph cars has helped thousands of others to enjoy them as well. I have resisted the temptation of the TR6 - one of the most beautiful cars to ever turn a wheel, due to the reports of the flawed handling and nimpressive speed. THis has made me rethink that conclusion.
Thank you so much for sharing this.
Wonderful presentation! I was a young boy in the 60s and my father owned a TR 2 (along with several Corvettes). I loved that car so much, the sound of the engine, the interior, the smells, the swooping doors, oh and that steering wheel 😁. I can remember going for rides and how cool it felt. The only other car I've been as fond of was the Morgan (I reckon circa 50s) a neighbor owned. So I was the little guy on the street that was lucky enough to have ridden (quite frequently) in two very iconic automobiles. I'd give honorable mention to the Model A and Model T another neighbor had fully restored that I was also lucky enough to ride in frequently but they had nothing on the lovely British Motorcars I still so much love today (and I'm in my early 60s now).
Great job Richard. What a great story to tell. Absolutely fascinating.
A very good video documenting a man and his passion for Triumph TR's. His collection looks beautiful and it's great that some get driven.
I "only" have a lowly 1976 Spitfire but the Triumph roadsters are so endearing. Listening to this gentleman's tail of his lifelong passion is inspiring.
Tale
I love the lines of the spitfire.
What a interesting man, I could listen to his stories all night! Once again a brilliant variation of subject for the BOM channel, well done guys!!!
Thank you for this.
I just spent the last 30 minutes with the biggest smile on my face. It hurts now, but totally worth it.
A Triumph in more ways than one. Brilliant.
Absolutely superb i loved every minute of this and how great it is the original tr2 he bought he still owns and enjoys.
Ben- your best work! A wonderful story, wonderfully told...
Thank you
Absolutely knocked it out of the park, well done chaps.
I loved this video even though I have no special connection to Triumphs. The production shows the superb taste and passion for excellence that has been the hallmark of Project Binky. Getting all the archival footage must have been a significant challenge. As others have said, I also didn't want it to end. Thank you so much!
What a ripper bloke! Full credit for everything he’s done with, and for, Triumphs.
What a lovely personal history story of TR motoring, thank you so much!
What a great interview, and Neil Revington is a very interesting man for all of ua Triumph owners and enthusiast. Fantastic job, Bob
Thank U for this beautiful and riviting video about this man and his passion, slash LOVE, of one fasset of the automotive industry!!
What a story! I had a passion for Triumph motorcycles, and my first British motorcycle was a great 1958 650cc vertical twin Triumph Tiger!!!! My love for British machines was born!!! It has never left me...nor I, left it!!!!! Thank U all so much! I enjoyed every second...!!!
Absolutely loved that. Nice to get insight into how these vital businesses came about. Without them, so many lovely cars wouldn't be around.
Good video. A company that keep s triumphs going. I had a TR 3A & Tr4A in the 1960s &1970s.. Loved them.
This is a wonderful watch, thank you.
Speaking of Jimmy McRae. My dad gave him his last Rolo when they met at the Mintex. I was mortified, had had my eye on it for ages.
Nice guy Neil, unassuming, humble and nice to chat with.
This was done brilliant ! Such nice story telling, beautiful arranged, well toned narranting, well placed foottage and all the right music ! Impressive work ! A so much different thing of a kind than a Binky or Escarcot episode but a beauty by itself.
Thoroughly engrossing content, what a great a humble guy he is! He sure can pedal a car too!
Brilliant story and so well narrated, loved it 👍
What a good storyteller and great video to convey the story. It’s also great to see someone who actually drives their collectables instead of letting them collect dust
Fantastic piece of video journalism, better than some telly programs ! - a great mix of original live action, factual interview and historic footage, superbly edited with the funk soundtrack - well done !
Well done BOM chaps!!! Enjoyed every minute...:-)
Damn you guys have beaten the pros at this, that was BLOODY FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!
Big fan of Binky. Loved this video too. Great production.....please keep them coming....👌👍
I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed that video. Everything about it was excellent. Thank you to every one concerned.
A great story, told in such an absorbing way. Neil is a national treasure, surely.
Another great video! Takes me back to when I was lucky enough to drive my dad's TR6. The straight 6 pulling in third to third overdrive! Love it!
Thanks. My Mom had a small grill 57' TR3. Brings back a lot of memories growing up in that car..
Tremendous film, thanks BOM!
Love the video - as many have said the passion of Mr. Revingtion comes through in every frame.
One small quibble - The Shell 4000 rally was completely in Canada, not the States. My dad Jim Gunn organized all of these coast to coast rally's from 1961 to 1968 plus the 1971 BC Centennial.
Good to see this. I was at the Goodwood meeting in my £350 TR4A , the days when it didnt matter what it looked like as long as it was driveable. Good times.
Nice to see so many historic cars being given a new lease of life, long may it last!
This guy is living the dream! Proof that if you want to do it, you can do it 👍🏻
Met Neil in the early 1980's at a TR register annual event at Malvern. Put a smile on our faces with his wit & wry humour. Happy memories. We share his passion for TR's & great to here his story, long may it continue.
Fantastic! I could honestly watch 6 more hours of Neil showing us the stuff they build and vintage footage. Can't wait for the next Classic episode! Cheers from Chicago!
Can anyone imagine a Planning Officer acting with such compassion and discretion today?
Speaking from the US, but I doubt things are any better in the UK.
Peace and Love,
ct
It's awesome to see you have further immortalized someone that has done so much not only in the Triumph community but as a racer/builder. Beyond exceptional work.
A beautifully composed video. Better than most mainstream networks/channels. Well done.
What an interesting subject!
Mr Revington should be introduced to Harry Metcalfe's body fabricators, who are currently working on his Lancia Zagato. They would do his Zoom prototype proud.
Well done! What an amazing story to still have his first car all these years later.
I bought an enormous amount of performance parts from TR Revington spares! The person I always spoke with was named Martin. This is going back into the 1980s or 1990s I forgot which. But in any event, the parts made my TR six very special indeed, and I miss it.
Thanks so much for this. These long form interviews are fantastic and the production values are awesome. Can’t wait for more of these great stories. Cheers.
Wow, what an outstanding, humble gentleman. An incredible history, amazing cars and not a hint of arrogance despite a lifetime of achievement.
Amazing video and great stories. Thank you for letting the rest of us know about this chap and his business. The logic overdrive... wow. Love hearing about this kind of stuff.
I'm so impressed that on one hand you can make a silly video about 2 blokes fixing a car in a garage, and then on the other hand make a proper documentary with beautiful photography showing a person's commitment to his passion and career. That guitar riff in the background was used about 20 times more than necessary though.
What an excellent piece of video. I have always lusted for a tr5.
Excellent documentation! Thanks.
Thoroughly enjoyed this, thankyou! For a short while after leaving school in '65 I worked for Ansteys in Maidstone, and then in '67 transferred to Ansteymiles who happened to be the Triumph Distributor for Kent. So this was when the TR5 was current. Wonderful cars, although my boss Reg Sinclair would not allow me to drive them out on the roads due to my inexperience... He did allow me to drive the 2 litre Vitesse, GT6, and 2.5 PI though.
You gentlemen are first rate. I just spent 28 minutes engrossed with a man with a raison d'etre. My father, a US Navy aviator, owned a TR-3 in the 1960s and my fondest memories are the sounds and smells of that tiny beastie. Thanks for the nostalgic adventure.
Thank you for putting this film together. Cheers!
Beautiful video! Wasn't expecting it, hope we get more!

"SCO 110B" and interesting number to read in your rear-view mirror... Excellent video, thanks!
That was awesome. More of these rarely or untold stories would be great.
Of all the cars I’ve owned and driven over the past 50+ years, if I could have one back again it would be my TR3 - thanks for this trip!
awesome, my dad had a 3a rapier, I did my apprenticeship at a triumph dealer and the boss's friend's brought in their old tr2 3 and 4s for restoration work. great video , thanks.
I'm usually more interested in Triumphs with only two wheels so I know little about these but what an absolute boss of a guy!
He's one of those who is incredibly talented yet you could chat the night away with him down the pub.
I can only wonder at what stories this guy could tell about his life.
Superb. I love the way it's just his story. No interruptions.
I've always been in love with the TRs. My mum and step dad had a TR3 back in the 60s and use to Rally in it and so as long as I've been alive Triumph was literally a household name.
Living his dream. Earned the right to be a lucky man, loves his wife and his work. Respect. Brilliant vid
nominative determinism, Mr Revington 👍 Great work BOM boys 👍👍
What has happened to BOM? Nothing on YT for 8 months now. Has something happened? So many projects left up in the air, especially Binky, so close to completion.
Lovely video. Thank you for sharing your story Mr. Revington.
Triumphs are still my favorite cars I had a 1968 mk3 for 30 years loved it great video.
Great story. So good to see a guy doing something he loves. He's a lucky man. Beautiful cars.
Really good video, well done Ben James 👏
Brilliant video, fascinating story and lovely guy. It’s wonderful to hear how someone with ingenuity and passion can follow his dream and build a successful lifestyle business like Revington TR. Happy 70th birthday Neil!
What a gem of a vid! Thanks guys. The shed lives on! Such a treat to see here and so well captured. More please. For the 'project' perhaps a tie-up with 'prestige-restoration' or simialar is in the offing? From thier work with Harry M's Zagato I think they should be Likely Lads. Do keep these coming though I'd like news on L' Escargot and Binky, too of course. Thanks
They are really nicely done and interesting these films, thank you.
Fantastic camera work and overall production is the cherry on top. Well done!
Congratulations to BOM for continuing the channel by using these fabulous stories from around the sport in the U.K.
Neil's story is fascinating and he told it so well. His story about the 7-speed box made me laugh because one my two big Healeys, the 1960, developed a problem with the electric overdrive that gave me the same results, overdrive in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. I was so pleased with the way it ran that I never bothered to "fix" it. That would have been around 1966 or '67. I kept them for a couple of years then sold them both to buy a 1967 Chev Camaro 350SS which after being gently breathed upon turned out to be quite a little monster of a "sleeper." Canada, y'know.
I'd love to have those two Healeys back, a BN6 and a BN7. Ah well, wages of a properly mis-spent youth and all that.
Thanks again Richard and Nik for the splendid content.
Cheers from the colony.
Brilliant little documentary about a very special and very modest guy and his business. Makes me want to go out and buy a TR? immediately. Keep the excellent videos coming.
Revington.. just the name alone is cool.
And then we got to hear the stories.
Brilliant vid guys !
Such a thoroughly good video with a positive backdrop of a loving Team relationship. Thank you. Philip🇳🇿
Great to be reminded that age is just a number - you can still be turbo-nerdy about your cars even at, what we'll diplomatically call 'experienced' years.
I hope to be half as sharp and enthusiastic as Neil when I'm knocking on 70.
Superb short 🎥Great editing and music 🎶 He is the real deal and so humble. Thanks for sharing. Always wanted one of the early TR’s, but growing up in Cleveland Ohio U.S., the tin worm destroyed anything in my price range and winters brutally cold, to operate one year round.
Well worth the price of admission, sensational. Thanks.
Now that brought back alot of memories, I always loved those car
What a man’s life and history 👍👍👍
This was pure magic for me thank you for bringing me back so many years long may your cars and company thrive thank you D.
Thank Neil for what You do for the Triumph Community.
Wow, I didn't watch this originally as it wasn't Binky or the lorry. Now I am amazed how interesting this is especially as I also live in one of the zoy's and worked at the helicopter factories.
Great story and very well produced.
Great film, really enjoyed listening to him speak!
I love the story and the cars. Thanks Neil.
Thanks for this interesting vid and to Neil for his years supporting and innovating circus diehard Triumph owners!
I was a little surprised not to see an Italia in that garage, Neil. (The most beautiful Triumph ever, in my humble opinion.)
There are a few Revington TR bits on my TR4, which I've only owned since the mid-1970s. ☺
Over here on this side of the pond we have Ken Gillander and Las Kastner, both of whom have influenced my project (incomplete, in it's third "racestoration").
That's a very nice video. Very fascinating, just like the GT40 one.👍
....and after watching this....THIS is what is great about the automotive world. It allows enthusiasts to become MORE - in their particular niche of makes/models/competition types. Great stuff Neil ( and you to 2 rogues from BOM) from Queensland. Australia.
