  • Here's a look at the Ridgid Storage Box, I've had it for a while and really like having it. It does not only keep your tools secure on a jobsite, but also keeps them organized in one place. It's currently available for $250 at Home Depot. www.homedepot.c...

    got the exact one, made a vid and posted in under Industrial Electrician tools. Very happy with it, $300 plus the locks so $325 out the door from home depot. i HIGHLY recommend this box!

    Great job reviewing the Rigid box. I will be picking one up soon. Just checking about which lock to use as some people have had problems with the lock install. Also would like to add wheels to the box as well for mobility.

    Good review! A couple of lag screws through the feet and into the floor joists would also prevent a couple of burly guys walking away with the whole thing too!

      Jim Dockrell Lag bolts would indeed make if more secure, but I'll pass on four holes in the middle of the future freshly sanded floor. In other situations, it's the way to go. For me, just the weight alone is good enough. THanks for watching.

    Good thorough review considering it's "just a box with locks". Anyway thought it'd be funny if you just had a toolbox locked up as a decoy and really kept your tools in say a garbage bag off to the side or something 😂

    Great review. Papa had an old, reclaimed-from-trash JOBOX in the garage, locked up tight and I wanted to use it for scrap metal storage in the shop. Took me an hour, an angle grinder, two cutting discs and a couple select swear words to get into it. Finally got inside- a wool blanket, a roll of towels and a cold chisel were all that was in there. It was a noisy mess to break into.

    I have the same one. Love it. Probably going to get the larger one too for another location. I would have liked another tray and tried to order one through my local The Home Depot. But they weren't very helpful.

      diycentral You could probably get your hands on one. Try talking to the manager directly, the manager at my homedepot is very nice. I have his card in my wallet with his cell number! You could also call Ridgid.

    out in the field, the locks just keep the honest man honest. A plasma torch would cut this box like butter. i actually had to yell at a few scaffold builders standing on my box with muddy boots. rain washed it off... dont spray it with Never Wet

    Good box, crap padlocks.
    Ditch the Master no 1, easily picked in seconds and the cylinder can be silently drilled out.
    I'd go with an American 5200 or an Abloy.

    I just can’t get behind having a bright orange box with like 20k worth of tools. I like the knaack it’s the same box just brown and less attractive. Even the yeti we have is brown too many thieves out there

  • @measstl8438
    @measstl8438 Před 8 lety +2

    These boxes are not site friendly. I thought they were, till I lost $2400 worth of tools in 15 minutes. A pry bar and a sledge popped mine open and my profit was lost. The only way they can make this box secure to not leave it on site. I hate to say this, but I hate to see people lose money on a job.

    • @thehomesteadcraftsman8975
      @thehomesteadcraftsman8975  Před 8 lety +8

      +Brian Kenney It's just a deterent for me, it's inside a locked house and the average dumb A that's looking easy stuff to grab will have a hard time with it. But when it comes to a determined thief, you just can't stop them. You could crawl in the box and wait for them to open it and pop out like a jack in the box and take care of them.

  • @tomj528

    I've been thinking about getting one for keeping my power tools safe in the garage and taking with when on a project. The weight is nice to prevent theft but I don't have a forklift and most likely would have to load it by myself. How do you get it from the house into your truck?

    • @zachfoss4152
      @zachfoss4152 Před 3 lety

      If you empty most of the tools out, you can load it onto the tailgate one side at a time fairly easily

    • @tomj528
      @tomj528 Před 3 lety

      @@zachfoss4152 I've decided to go with keeping my tools in their cases and organizing the rest of my tools in the 20" Plano tool boxes I bought years ago for $1.99 each (closeout and rebate) along with other tool boxes I already own, a few larger bins for bulky items like paint and drywall tools/supplies and a couple of 5 gallon buckets with pocket organizers. At home these live on a shelving unit where they're easy to grab and use and when I have to take them with me they're easy to load up in my pickup as they're all relatively light. I can also take my landscaping wagon along if I have to move them any distance. When I was younger I wouldn't have thought twice about unpacking then lifting a 250lb tool chest into my pickup by myself and then reloading it all back up only to reverse the entire process when I get back home. These days it's far less appealing and I'm guessing that's only going to get worse as I age. Additionally, I'm not a fan of leaving everything at a project site as I've since learned these metal job boxes aren't perfectly water tight and are easily pried open. Realistically, going forward most of my projects are at home with smaller ones at family member's houses as I can do them. I'd like to get a small lake cabin at some point but who knows. It's a much better solution for me and one that I put a lot of thought into.

    Like most security measures they keep the honest people more honest you should upgrade those cheap padlocks on the box and make damn sure its bolted from the inside of the box to make it harder for crackheads to carry the entire box out of the house i am a firm believer in making things harder for people to steal unfortunately thieves. Will target unoccupied houses if they think they have anything of value inside i built residential subdivisions years ago and they used to get hit all the time as a deterrent we used Gang Boxes that were either bolted down or chained to something solid like a steel column Or a concrete pad good luck on your reject home i seriously hoe you dont have to encounter any theft or break ins .

      If you used a #5 master lock “commercial” series padlock just remove the upper rubber/plastic cap nearest the lock hasp. This will solve your problem most likely unless you have an old rusty padlock.
      (Oh yea, “hasp” is the word you were lookin for when describing the lock mechanism set-up)
