#speedrun #waifuruns #DMC - Hry
Let's go! Very honored to have my run covered like this. Hope everyone likes it and here's to 100k subs damn soon.
Hope you won't forget us little runners now that you're all big and famous.
You are a badass great job mad respect dude!!!
Glad to see you push through.
let me ask you something, are you even human? that run was beyond insane
you're a legend
As a person who has flashbacks of getting demolished trying to achieve DMC 100 percent DMD as a child, I believe this run is insanely impressive. Also great presentation in the video, I felt like I was watching a documentary. Way to go to cover this run with explanations, just like the run it's self this was a masterpiece to watch.
Glad to see Slickford Sensei getting the respect he truly deserves.
You'll get yours someday soon if you keep smashing it like you have been.
Never thought I would live to see this record on video, kudos to the madman and to you for covering it!
mad respect to speedrunners in general. put so much time into learning every facet of the games in order to do this.
Meanwhile here me just taking the skips and tricks they show and using them in casual replays. It helps speed things up ( pun wasnt intended but whatever haha)
Thanks and also it drives me nuts some of the time creating sort of a love/hate relationship with the game.
The noise Nero’s armour makes when he walks is the same as when Ashley walks in a suit of armour in re4, only noticed that now
After growing up and constantly getting my rear end played like bongos by this game I have nothing but the highest amount of respect for this man.
The style, the stubbornness, and the confidence.
Bruh what?! LMAO 💀💀
@@Born... he said what he said. Let brother cook
Amazing vid, that mission 22 segment was particulary incredible
thank you that was my favorite part
Love the content, ever since I started watching you my love of speedruns increased
As an aspiring hack n' slash game designer, this video was very insightful. It was amazing to watch someone so passionate for the game showing off their knowledge and skills. And it was humbling to have the narration helping to explain the underlying philosophies, strengths and weaknesses. As well as covering the advantages, flaws and benefits of both in-game decision making and game design.
DMC1 was the first game I ever got to play on PS2 back in the day. And I've learned far more about the game just watching this video than I ever gathered playing the game on my own over the years.
High quality content, ya'll! Thank you guys for putting this all together! I'll definitely be following Slickford and this channel from here forward!
Small funfact about the R in japanese (context I'm learning japanese and lived there for a year): While the letter R is used in romaji (western characters) when writing the reading of kana or kanji, I have no idea who decided to use R as default and not L. The japanese sound is way closer to an L than an R, the perfect pronounciation would be somewhere in the middle (not a rolled R though), but since for me it was always nearly impossible to pronounce I asked my teacher(native) if I could default to just L and she said it's absolutely fine and correct. I also noticed that there is a lot of variation in native japanese speakers when it comes to the pronounciation, many use the ideal middle between R and L, but many also fall somewhere on the range from said middle to full-on L, however it rarely (maybe never) goes in the other direction. So in my humble opinion I think that the japanese R letter should always have been an L. (So to say the japanese only have an L sound and not an R sound, not the other way around). Of course I'm no language professor so there might be a reason behind it defaulting to R (maybe the tongue movement is closer to R or something like that?).
Also on a sidenote: I guess that the translators actually made a mistake with "Nelo Angelo". The mentioned katakana are syllable characters generally used to write foreign words (as opposed to the hiragana which contain the same syllables but are used for pure japanese words). However the japanese syllable alphabets don't have single consonants(except n), as a result voals are often added to words when written with katakana. Restaurant for example becomes re-su-to-ra-n. Before I started learning japanese I first thought that might also be the case here and that the Nelo part was just misspelled "neo", so that the name would be "Neo Angel(o)" or "New Angel". However that can't be the case for two reasons: 1. Neo can actually be spelled with katakana without problems, since single voals are present, so ネ-オ (Ne-o) would be possible and there's now reason to have a random R in there. 2. Angel wouldn't be transcribed to Angelo but rather Angelu, because the last consonant is neither a T nor a D and therefore U would be added, not O. And with some short google search I found that Angelo is also in fact proper italian for angel. And with some further googling I found that aside from the roman emperor, there is also Nero as the masculine form of the italian word for black. Since both words are italian I believe the correct translation is in fact "Nero Angelo" meaning "Black Angel", which fits quite well with his appearance. (Or just call him demon vergil).
Because the japanese R is in between l and R, no matter wich one you choose mistranslations were inevitable.
Ok weeb
Aye it's Nero Angelo. Even dmc5 refers to him as the "Black Angel" in the enemy reports for the other Angelo's. I suspect the localization uses Nelo Angelo just to differentiate him from Nero.
As for ら (ra) while it is somewhere between 'r' and 'l', as I understand it it's actually closest to 'dd'. Like in pudding or buddy.
P sure Nero angelo isa thing in dante's inferno so I think nero angelo would make more sense
what i do is pronounce the Ls and Rs like a D
I start my tongue in position to say R and say D instead
So Nedo Angedo,
Excellent video and excellent commentary! Also wasn't expecting to hear Sewerslvt there at the end!
Watching your 100 100% runs is absolutely stunning, and knowing the history of the run makes it doubly entertaining and quadruple the ability to follow along and understand

Thank you for taking the time to break this speedrun down. It really helped cement just how monumental this accomplishment is even to a complete outsider. Well done!
These speed run breakdowns are so cool man, keep up the great work.

This was amazing and gave me great insight into speed running. Thanks!
Beautiful, man. Adore the music choice at the end too
Great content, and great commentary on a fellow speed runner 👍
Your highlight videos rock, subbed to the new channel
Wasnt expecting to hear sewerslvt in this video lmao. Awesome vid👍
o my yes i was dying for you do this i thought you werent going to with how long it took you to upload but its ganna be worth it for sure i seen the full uncut run so i am excited to see it with your commentery
Crazy final boss edit! Savage video!
I blasted through the whole series in order one time and never really took the time to master DMC1, this is really cool to see. Also, i didn't know you could stand on Shadow's skewer here! I wondered what the point of that was in V's moveset, makes sense now!
Your videos are gold man all the best
Such a great video!
1:08:58 brief fun fact, for the very few that doesn't know that yet, Nero Angelo is Italian and means Black Angel, and is also mistranslated since in Italian (opposite to english and many other languages) adjectives follows the subject and not the other way around (it should had been called Angelo Nero instead)
The common opinion is that Kamiya wanted to call him Black Angel and did the extra mile translating it in Italian for extra style points [without any actual plain reason, I mean at least in DMC4 there was an heavy use of latin names but it had sense in the religiuos setting of the game] but didn't know how italian grammar works so he just translated the two words without reversing the order of the words.
In the italian translation of the game on PS2 still it was called Nelo Angelo because the translator didn't understood that it was a typo, he thought Nelo Angelo was his actual name
i never though about using guns on M1 that mission is insane without devil trigger and mostly the area with the time limit.😵💫
Yo this a legendary vid never heard of these speedruns thank you!
Love your videos
Jesus. 20 years? It goes by so fast...
It's like almost my carbon date in total. I'm 21 btw.
For real. I remember buying DMC the week it came out and getting absolutely destroyed for hours. Eventually beat it but, damn.
Such a great video and Slickford is insane for doing this. I got much more DMC 1 knowledge here than I thought, not knowing there were so much things that I still didn't know about the game.
When I was trying to finish all difficulties and maximizing health and DT gauge on my run in DMC1, I died so much on the DMD difficulty, as it was a huge spike from Hard mode lol.
Also you're explanation on how the Nightmare boss fights works, suddenly makes me realize on why I had so much trouble from nightmare in mission 20 lol. I had a hard time due to the constant boomerang attacks, and its maybe because the core that was left was the one on Nightmare's upper back lol
i swear sewerslvt has the best music
thx for all the content waifu, this documentaries are banging
Ayy, the Slvt has the bops, haven't heard the music in the video yet, but that makes me happy.
I really appreciate the insight on the speedrunning community, I'm not a speedrunner myself, but it's really fascinating all the technics people discover to get the fastest time on a game, and I hope someday I'll be able to submit a run or two on my favorite games
This is one of those games I doubted wether or not to buy it and ended up not buying it and regretting that ever since. Great video, including the format!
HEY man congrats on 100k subs you deserve more honestly with the effort you put and the guts you have to do an amongus joke
Huge congrats for competing this!
Amazing, gotta respect that incredible amount of effort and determination.
Best dmc series. Old but gold.
Great video! This is my first but it got my subscribe! Keep it up!!
I don't ever plan on doing speedruns, especially those like this. But damn, even i got tense watching this as you explained what he was doing and had to do. Absolutely insane Knowledge of the game.
bruh this game is such a gem, hard as hell and nearly impossible to optimize. love the wacky stuff in this like oh sword of sparda? nice *unequips the literal next frame*
Sparda sword is literal trash in this game and have only one use
@@mrdeafter yeah having DT is much better than a range + damage boost like why did they do that to the sword xD
Oh man, i remember the first time i saw the Sparda sword cutscene thinking "Oh boy, this sword looks OP as hell" then instant switching back to Alastor after finding out it didn't had DT.
i fixed my tipo.
Hppy 100k subs! I just saw that i didnt sub to you so i subbed as fast as i can! Congrats hope you make more 14d2 contents btw : )
Good job on the video
Explaining about speed running and the true essence of it starting around 47:00 is what made me give the thumbs up, mad respect to the ones that keep it TRUE. Dank video and basically putting people up on game on principles. That’s if they choose to listen and live by.
Absolute looooved!!! The use of ecifircas
Thank you for the video ! Also as a french native speaker, it’s a fact that this video improves my english overall, keep the works up :)
"This causes him to pimp-walk towards you."
Man, I love this!
"Here is what I want to work on today. ...this is Waifu's excellent commentary on a legendary DMC run." >.<
Seriously, best commentary. Well written, well read and easily comprehensible even for someone not running the game - or even familiar with speedrunning in general. I need to stop by your channel more often again.
Best content on the internet.
grats on 100k mate :D
i have been stuck on nightmare 1 for like three years on dmd. I have never been able to find any strategy online for beating this guy and this video actually just gave me hop of finally completing the games platinum
Brilliant speedrun category.
It also functions well as a guide on how to beat the game on the hardest difficulty
Matthewmatosis helped me 100% my Steam achievements for DMC HD collection, no lie.
Loved the speech from Moral Orel during the fight with Mundus.
Just awesome Devil's May Cry! Just glad to see it actually done!
Every time Waifu covers Devil May Cry, it warms my heart. Thank you for your great work.
Great video! I love Mathew’s content, it’s a shame he hasn’t made a video like that in years, whenever they come out they are something special
I hope that he will do a God Hand commentary one day
i was about to say “he just made the viewtiful joe one” but then i checked and that was 2020. wtf.
@@hypermonkeybird4945 ya that one was great though! I wasn’t as big of a fan of his micro series, it’s still a fun watch but his long form stuff is so special, although I wonder if he will ever go back to a souls game in that style? He kind of seemed burned by ds2 to the point that I don’t think he ever made a ds3 video, I think the demons souls and ds1 vids basically covered everything he had to say about what makes those games good, and so he would just be repeating himself in a ds3 video, but I’m not really sure.
Been working on my own "Why DMC is so good" video, when BOOM i learn about DMD and now DMD 100% speedrunning. This game really keeps giving doesn't it???
Also, I really enjoyed listening to how speedrunning this game differs from a normal playthrough.
The tricks, tech, and insights on design are something I NEVER would have guessed, or even thought would be relevant.
Good vid my guy💪
All I read was "self promo"
@@CrustedPork no.
But also yes

Cool !
Sensational !!!
Ouch my eyes at mundus fight ;-; great video tho' very well done work
Absolutely excellent video, great work Waifu
Max difficulty 100% speedruns are definitely my favorite category for just about any game, especially glitchless runs, to me it's the best way to show one's mastery of the game's mechanics. It's not feasible for some games because it pushes the time to complete to be too long, but if it just so happens that it can be done in less than 3 hours, I feel like that's a perfect category.
Hearing the moral orel/Edm bit near the end threw me for a loop lol
Wooo You're my Hero!
Nice one! had to ff Mundus 2 cuz I could not see sht throught that edit xD
the 10 minute unskipable ad is really nice not gonna lie
Not the Moral Orel house music at the end lmao
Awesome vid and game...memories🥰💯
Not in the dmc or speedrunning scene but am in the gaming scene and love to see the passion, blood, sweat and tears. Also who doesn't love dmc tho? Watched the whole thing, had a blast!
i'd be mad as hell if i had a record held for 20 years and someone broke it not too long ago
That's not how speed running works though. Most communities support each other and are pretty happy when records are broken. Plus 20 years means whoever got it probably doesn't really care anymore. I'm 32 now if I got this record at 12 I wouldn't give a flying shit if anyone broke it. I would have long moved on with my life already lol. This game isn't exactly a pinnacle of speedrunning like the bigger speedrun games. So holding a record here isn't what anyone would call a holy grail. Still very impressive but the lack of runners means it's a lot easier to break a record and hold it for extended periods of time. And I mean lack of runners even when it was new. For obvious reasons a very linear on rails action game doesn't really do well in terms of entertainment and bringing in big numbers of runners.
I like your analogy about speed-running. I have found myself at times hitting a wall where I can no longer progress. If this goes on for too long I play something else.
Big fan. Just wanted to touch on M7 SB. On NG+ it is actually possible to SB this mission without the secret mission exploit. Got a recording on my channel, and after that was done another guy (HELIAX 99) also did it. And yes, it's as insanely hard as you talk about.
If you're just talking just NG though I don't know - you'd need max DT and you need to be able to kill the Frosts fast losing as little DT as possible. On my todo list to explore and it's not high on that list.
EDIT: Listening again, the Kyclops time I got was not under a minute as you say. But was about 1 min 10 seconds. It's not foolproof, but I did see my Kyclops times consistently decrease massively.
o nice didnt know you were a fan off him yeah on new game its not happening just because off the time it takes for frosts to kick the bucket althought if someone finds a setup to get them to die fast it be possible also go watch the waifu run he managed to get the world record worth a watch might even attemt to do this myself one day
You know how many times I've watched this? No seriously I lost track
Well, after 20 years. He finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel.
Now you can rest.
actually he got his dark soul filled with lAaight
I barely beat Devil May Cry on Normal, let alone Dante Must Die, let alone a Speedrun of DMD
"You are the king of hell" an incredibly fitting title!
Devil May Cry is one of my favorite games that I revisit every few years..... Just learned today you can kill that electric bird in the Griffon fight
I was today days old when I found out that is how you were supposed to do the one shot Sin Scissor mission. I had done it, but didn't understand it was the gun in the face that caused it and would just try to clash blast and pray.
Would have loved to see the lava Mundus fight ;) This might be the game I most played on ps2 but never managed to get more than A rank on mission 22 at DMD difficulty. Doing all this in 1h22 is insane!
Wasn't expecting a SewerSlvt song to be featured here
Jokes on you! Psycho Siren has been my alarm tune for 4 years now. :D
I don't know if this helps or not but I noticed during the 2nd Mundus phase, Mundus just stands there doing nothing whenever he summons a lava dragon. I honestly just ignore the dragon and charge straight at Mundus while he just stands there doing nothing. That's how finally beat dmd.
Following your quote if you respect the pioneers of runs. What do you think of the start of the no duke category in RE Village
Sat down thinking I’d watch this in segments and almost 2 hours later here I am. A better watch than most movies these days. Great video 👍🏻
The 1st remains my favorite. Best atmosphere hands down.
Love DMC
One of my favorite games ever
Hesitation can lead to disaster? You mean Hesitation is defeat
I would love to see you do a nightmare only challenge run the rules are the only gun you can use is nightmare beta (obviously) and the first attack of ifrit (a nightmare punch if you will) also fun fact nightmare beta boosts any attack that is left handed you can in fact use this to skillfully one shot hallway phantom
I’ve beaten DMC1 over 60 times (it’s my favorite game of all time) and this is impressive.
The ending with it being synced to the music and the editing you've done are absolutely fantastic. It gives a brief glimps into how much effort goes into a run like this. Retrying over and over and over and over [...] until it finally happens. Mad respects to Slickford for completing this challenging and truly insane run. And mad respects to you Waifu for making such a nice comprehensive explaination with a Mundus fight to go down into the history books of god-tier presentation.
" By stickin the blixky right in its face and pulling the trigger..." 💯
Quite literally a true son of sparda. This is canon dante
damn.. what a crazy game
I remember the first time I played dmc it was a demo on a re-code veronica x game case. What a epic run 👍
I know how brutal this game is on the hardest difficulty. ☠️
