His wife is in his band and in many of the live versions you can tell he is singing it to her. An amazing song that in my mind transcends genre.
One of those few artists where his live performances are 10x better than the recorded. He's a true performer....that suffers from stage fright. It's insane and an oxymoron. Incredible artist.

This song is around 40-50 years old and when Chris redid the song with his blues sound in his voice it killed the charts. It was always a great song and I remember it growing up with David Allen Coe and George Jones.

I am not generally a Country Fan either, however Chris Stapleton's voice is definitely in a sub genre of Country, more along the lines of Country Rhythm & Blues, with a crap load of soul!!! This is a cover actually, the song was originally performed by David Coe in 81’ and George Jones did a cover in 83’… but Chris did it the BEST by FAR!!! He’s a pure treasure ❤ and I completely agree with the other comments, you need to see his live performances

I’m not a country music fan at all, but there are quite a few country songs that I actually do like and there are country artists that I really like and he’s one of them. But to me this is more blue than Country and that’s what I love. I love blues.

Another great reaction. I'm 43 and never drink alcohol and just from a cash dollars perspective, I cannot express what a good decision this is. Not only is it bars and and clubs, the older drinkers get, then it becomes every dinner, every brunch, every holiday. I bet per social.gathering at like mid level prices, I spend $30 less per event than people who drink. So, if you aren't interested and don't mind people giving you a hard time occasionally, it's a great strategy

Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove wrote this …. The original singer that sang it was David Allen Cole , then George Jones did a cover …. George I think took it too #2 …. Then here comes Chris Stapleton that took it too 6 times platinum…. Until someone comes along better than Chris ( which I doubt could happen ) will always be the best version of this song . Now the Version that Chris did with Justin Timberlake on the CMA’s was outstanding …. You should check out that live version of Chris , Tim and Chris’s Wife

Great reaction......and I began dating a man and all he listened to was Country music....and first my ears and my mind revolted...and then I'd hear a song a few more times. I had to....that was all there was....and as I went along, those dang songs worked their way into my mind and my heart and I ended up truly enjoying Country music. Dwight Yoakam is Hillbilly Boogie, the Bakersfield sound. Merle Haggard....there's truly great music in that Category. No doubt about it.
