I remember driving to Giants games as a kid from the North Bay and we'd take 3rd Street as a "shortcut". Night and day worse than it is now. Before the ballpark was built, that area was nuts
Man, I remember OC, the Pink Palace, Hays Valley, Eddie street projects all of em. Their now remodeled and the Pink Palace is the only high rise that didn’t get demolished just turned into senior homes
I'm from Oakland and rarely got to the city, but I remember coming over with my mom as a kid had to be around 1987 or 88 and being like 🤯 whoa.... I mean, we had projects too, 69/65, Acorn, Cypress etc... But them joints was just....different. I don't even remember which project it was, but I do remember it being Pink, but it was hella floors so not sure if it wasn't OC...either way, I was like Nah bruh...I ain't built like this...
Mannn it was rough back then but it was alot of love at the same time. Gentrification did SF wrong. Alot of public housing tricked alot of minorities out of their places. Now its down to just 3% of black people in the city at least that actually live here.
I feel you the city became somewhat safer which is good but also became too expensive for lots of residents the city lost a lot of its culture in the past 20 years

Yeah, the high rise “outta control” projects on Eddy and Laguna, where mayor London Breed is from. The other ones they went to were Hayes Valley projects on Hayes and Buchanan and also on Page and Buchanan. Those projects look way nicer nowadays, it’s a stark contrast. Same with Valencia Gardens, North Beach, and Army Street
It’s not really city on city beef. It’s mostly neighborhoods and different streets (turfs). But yes, occasionally gangs from sf and Oakland will have beef.
The Bay have alot of hood vs hood or set vs set beefs especially nowadays...City vs city never really happens. Actually it be alot of love between the two Cities.

I wish the news was still like this. It was so interesting it was like an actual movie
This wasn’t the regular news tho it was a special kind of like an insider documentary
The 80s and 90s were the roughest especially in the inner cities
60s and 70s aswell, lots of drugs and murders back then.
