  • After an under body wash, a sprinkler, a hose and going to a car wash, I take my Hilux out to my brother's place to see how much sand is still hiding in the underbody. This was after a 2 week escape on Fraser Island.

    Last time I went to Fraser, I did the underbody wash 3 times.
    Later when I got home I high pressure washed underneath including the chassis rails I reckon about 9 times on separate occasions & I am still finding sand here & there.
    Horrible stuff that is not real good for our vehicles but it's what you do to go to these places.
    Cheers

    I use a garden blower first. I just got back from Fraser, and I am going out now to clean.

    saltaway does work well but there's other stuff on the market thats just as good but a lot cheaper, like Desalt, Salt Off, Withworths carries them all, i've used them for years on my boat and trailer, breaks down the salt, won't get rid of the sand.

      @@mylurebox No, don't say that, it lowers you in my eyes now after thinking you were a top bloke. Why do I say that? because in effect you are selling a vehicle that you know is going to be crap pretty soon to some poor unfortunate that most likely hasn't much money or is new to 4wding and doesn't know much, or worse still, to some kid outa high school and buying their first vehicle. I will say, I retract all that if you actually tell someone of the faults before they buy the vehicle. I have been there over the years, and it destroys you when you spend all your money and realise you have been ripped off.

    John. I try not to make negative comments but working under slung loads and even lifting like that I must say is not recommended. I am not a rigger but have worked in heavy industry all my working life. Just saying be careful. I have seen some horrible things happen from dropped load.

      David Love
      I thought exactly the same thing as soon as they started to lift it with the forklift. The hairs stood up on my arms.lol. Obviously, the big car hoist behind you wasn't working or you would have been using that.
      I'm hoping to get back into the 4x4 ing soon, so I am prowling all videos like this one. Did you guys get the full "anti Rust" thing done to your vehicles ? Is it worth it ?. It is amazing how much sand you CAN'T get out of your car, so what's left is in there to stay. But, as you say, what's the point of having one if you don't use it. What is more important is that you are creating memories for your kids that will fondly stay with them forever.
      Great video mate.
      All the best to you and your family.

      I got my wires crossed mate. That reply to David Love from me, was meant for you, but I got sidetracked in my ramblings. Where are you based mate ? roughly ? Brisbane, South east Queensland ? I've got some mates who go to the 4x4 expo's, so if you are local, I will keep an eye out for you.

    When you see the amount of sand you brought back, then think how many vehicles travel in the island.....there must be tonnes of sand being inadvertently taken away each year....
    It’s not just natural elements moving the sands around.
    And like the other comments, I was gritting my teeth when you lifted the back of you Hilux like that 🤣.
    Love the vids, always an education!

    • @mylurebox

      Cheers Shaun, it’s unbelievable how much sand can hide in the underbody eh. Reading these comments from a few boys has me second guessing doing that again though.

      That's a good point Shaun. You look in amazement at the amount of sand you get out of your vehicle, not giving much thought to Just HOW much is taken away every week from these sort of places.....really good point.

    Very interesting but I am with @David love a very unsafe way of doing it. That carabiner clip you show clipping up the fork tines is not rated for much more then 500kg at best glad no one got hurt but please dont attempt that again unless using lifting gear rated for the weight you are attempting to lift

    • @kadmow
      @kadmow Před 2 lety

      Carabiner rating uhuh... absolutely (500kg is likely for lashing not lifting) that was my number 1 "shout at screen" item. lol... (with "safety hook" on chain end, lol...)

  • @johnrogers5825
    @johnrogers5825 Před 5 lety +1

    Good idea lifting body on an angle as the sand gets removed easier. Just need safety in mind though as others say too. Beats crawling around on your stomach too.
    It's a minefield trying to find the best info on anything on Google, but for after-beach cleaning I think a wash with a mix of vinegar and detergent mix will neutralize salt and follow with a good rinse, even using some bicarb to neutralize any remaining vinegar. When everything is dry a day or so later, then spray mineral oil everywhere for long-lasting protection.

    Wow mate I love your vids but this is the worst hands down . Frankly I'd rather you see your kids grow up and keep making your great fishing videos. I work with cranes every day and that one of the most dangerous things I've seen in a long time . I go to fraser a couple times a year and I use my car ramps to get angles for flushing my chassis and it works a treat a wk later give it another hit . Certainly not worth riskin your life for mate , stay safe and keep the good fishing vids coming 👍
