  • While we wait for winter to pass, we decided to work on a new project; converting a cargo van Ford E250 into a camper van. We expect this endeavor to occupy us for the next couple months and decided to bring you along as we transform this van into our new part time home.
We are learning a lot as we are doing (as always), so don't hesitate if you have any questions about your own conversion, it will be a pleasure to share tips and tricks, if possible.
In this episode, our van's interior undergoes its most significant transformation yet: we install wood paneling on the walls and ceiling. In just a few days, our van went from looking like a construction site to looking like a comfortable living space.

For future reference that 3/4 inch is over kill, you’d be surprised about how sturdy the flimsy boards get after they lock together using the tongue and groove.

Great work. For future reference 4 words... trim screw, impact driver. You'll like the ease and look of trim screws plus you can skip the majority of pre-drilling. Even a cheap 1/4 drive impact driver you would learn to love in about 5 minutes of use vs the standard drill driver.

Hi guys! Really nice job. I just bought a ford transit 350 which I am converting. Any pointers on adding studs for the siding to screw into? Do you just use self tapping screws and go right into the van metal? Also, how did you guys go about getting the insulation to stay in so nicely? Its so much work but I want to do a nice job! Any tips or information would be much appreciated. Hope you guys are enjoying your van life! Warm regards - Tyler R.

Newbie question but what are you drilling into the metal siding on the van? How long should screws be to not go through to the outside?

What about fans, lights and electrical ? LOVE the install so far, you guys are doing an extremely precise job fir the first time!

    •  Před 2 lety +1

Thank you so much! All that stuff will come a bit later since we aren't sure exactly where we want it all yet. We left some gaps to be able to pull wires through, so we're not too worried about that :)

Carsiding does look very attractive. Nice work! That said, and speaking from experience, you may very well live to greatly regret the shocking amount of weight it adds. Also the inflexibility can be a bummer if you do much driving. However it will be very attractive initially. Best of luck!

I noticed you all didn't run any wiring for outlets or ceiling lights? When are we getting back to the cabin build?

    •  Před 2 lety

Nope, we'll do the wiring for the lights later since we weren't sure exactly where we wanted them yet. It won't be too hard to pass the wires behind the panels. And we'll be getting back to the cabin as soon as enough snow melts for us to get up there and work! It should be around mid April. We're excited to get back to it!!
