  • What Memory Cards will actually work in the Original BMPCC?? This seems to be the big question with this camera now in 2023--so I decided to pick up some cards, test them, and I found 3 options that will work for you! **MEMORY CARD LINKS IN DESCRIPTION**

I also have found that these Kingston cards work on both BMPCC OG’s that I have. Now I ran into another use for them. I had picked up a Video Assist from eBay. It didn’t recognize the card I had in my new Video Assist. After researching the issue I found out that this was an old version and didn’t recognize the new cards. I took a Kingston card out of the BMPCC and inserted it and it was immediately recognized. I have tried the 64, 128, 256, and 512 cards and they all work in these older Blackmagic Devices just fine. Actually I can give you a very good edge case that I use for filming at 30fps. It's to upscale it to 60fps on youtube for CZcams content. This gives me a better temporal resolution and also a better bitrate from youtube encoding. Final export is 1440p/60 and it looks nice imo. But thank you for all your in depth analysis, I hope you can do this kind of serie every year about sd cards compatibility with the BMPCC, because they might not be available most of them for much longer.

Also workflows and ways to save time and hard disk/storage space: I've only recently discovered SlimRaw for compressing the raw files from the BMCC, for example. And I'd be interested how you handle archiving old footage, balancing quality and file sizes for different purposes. Thanks again.

There are tons of free apps to verify the card, do this before you start using them, so you can try to get a refund if it is fake(even from resellers that claim to only sell authentic cards, seen them selling fakes ;))

Download some free LUTs, and while shooting--focus on getting good exposure. Use the tools that are built into the camera (like Zebra Stripes and the Histogram) for exposure and NOT how it looks on the back of the camera. It really depends on what it includes. A lot of times they will be sold with cages, cards and lenses. So evaluate each one and then decide if you want to keep the accessories (a definite yes if it is a cage from Wooden Camera or Contineo or Small rig)--or if you don't need them and can sell them off to bring down your final price.
For just a camera alone--at the time of writing this--you can still find them for $350-450 if you are patient. With accessories between $550-650 will be a good deal if you can sell off or consider the value (it is hard to find a good cage for under $100).
