@@DiyJamezy Fighting at your natural weight class is a disadvantage because everyone else is cutting weight. You'll be fighting people who are 12 weight classes higher than you. Its at the point where your basically forced to do it to even be competetive.

Frankie Edgar's 3 losses were really competitive though, especially the 2nd Benson fight which almost everyone considered a huge robbery.
I agreed that Frankie should have won the rematch BUT that rematch shouldn't have even happened as the first fight was decisively won by Benson and Frankie wasn't a long defending champ who deserved an immediate rematch after such a lopsided decision loss.
@@ohlord3650 Frankie was arguably the greatest LW ever by the time he lost to Henderson. He'd defended the belt 3 times (tying him for the LW record), beaten the previous best LW BJ Penn, and avenged his only loss when he KO'ed Gray Maynard. It was similar to when Stipe and Max got immediate rematches after their losses to DC and Alex. Maybe he wasn't the longest-reigning champ but he had achieved enough that an immediate rematch made sense

Also, did you watch the 2nd Gray fight? Frankie most certainly should've won that. Gray arguably beat him in the first round via 10-7, but Frankie comfortably won all subsequent rounds 10-9.

The reason the P4P list was created was because we had dominant Champions in almost every weight division at that time, such as Anderson Silva, GSP, Mighty Mouse and Jon Jones. They all seemed unbeatable, so we had to mentally match their styles against each other because size matters. These days the list is a marketing tool.

I remember Joanna Violence getting removed for 'inactivity' when she hadn't fought since like February 2020 and yet Jon Jones, who fought I think on the same card against Dom Reyes. Jon obviously hasn't fought since but he was still on P4P for sooooooo long

One of the biggest divisional drops was Dom Cruz losing a title fight and going from rank 3 (according to fight matrix, UFC technically had him unranked at the time, but was last seen at rank 3 before this fight before they slowly dropped him down to to others getting wins in his absence, but he's still rank 3 if he can return to a title fight after losing) to rank 12!
Was 12-1 in his last 13, and got smashed all the way down for losing to the ranked 3 PFP Cejudo.
Aldo had lost to Volk, Moraes, and Yan, was 2-5 in his last 7, and was 0-2 at bantamweight, and was ranked 7th still.

knowing that it's based on an internal vote makes a lot more sense because it's more just a measure of how much Dana and co. think of you. which is why some guys can linger for no good reason and guys like DJ who the company doesn't like get moved down as fast as they can.
The problem is that the promotion controls the p4p rankings, and the promotion's goal is always money, the integrity of the sport only matters if it makes the promotion money.

I really wish they'd get rid of the P4P and make 2 openweight style divisions for superfights. One for the lighter classes, one for heavier. 2 special belts, 2 individual ranking systems influenced by division ranking + interdivisional bouts. It'd bring some interesting paths for guys like Masvidal or McGregor who shouldn't be in title contention normally, but have name value so you can use these as sort of pseud "legacy divisions"
