  • On a recent camping trip, we experienced a SERIOUS issue with the WreckTech Shop Truck, and want to share how we solved it.
    This solution works on ANY 2020 Ford Super-duty with the 7.3 Godzilla engine, and possibly more applications with the same engine setup.

    On the cylinder numbering, right and left are from the inside of the cab looking out, so the left bank (driver's side) is actually bank 2- # 5, 6, 7, & 8. The right side (passenger) is 1, 2, 3, & 4.

    There are three different part numbers for the 7.3L spark plug wires. The "C" version is the one they are putting on F53 RV chassis now, and the heavy duty trucks. I have a set on mine, and so far they are working just fine. I've tried two different types of aftermarket ones so far, and they have both been garbage.

  • @gregparrott
    @gregparrott Před 2 lety +6

    It is a well known issue. CZcams video have covered it for a couple years. At least one channel claimed that Ford has since redesigned and resolved the part.
    Honestly, Ford should issue a recall (if they haven't already done so) for all the 7.3 engines using the earlier, and apparently defective part.

    • @SMiller5488
      @SMiller5488 Před 2 lety +1

      Issue is while they have a revised version they refuse to install it in the trucks so every truck that rolls off the line still gets the same shitty wires, you have to buy the C series out of pocket.

    • @gregparrott
      @gregparrott Před 2 lety +1

      @@SMiller5488 Really? Even in late 2022?
      If I were in the market to replace my 2017 F-350 with a new one having the 7.3 engine, I would make it a condition for the sale that the problem plug wires be preemptively replaced. Other than purging old stock (that's still a poor excuse), WHY would Ford continue to put defective parts in? The Ford warranty includes roadside service. Even a small percentage of truck failing would cost more in tow services than any savings gained by installing lousy parts.

  • @trife78

    • @SMiller5488
      @SMiller5488 Před 2 lety +1

    On mine, the problem appears to have been a bad connection between the carbon conductor and the plug clip. The "wires" are not wire, they are carbon conductors. The bad connection allows the spark to burn away the carbon, farther and farther, until there is too much resistance to fire. A hollow section inside the insulator. The "C" wires should be the fix and cost about $12. each. Get a full set from someplace other than the dealer.

    • @hossbronco
      @hossbronco Před rokem

      Why do you say not to get them from the dealer? Cost?

    • @johnroemer5242
      @johnroemer5242 Před rokem +1

      @@hossbronco My dealer "discounted" them to about $34. each and only had the original model, not the suffix B or suffix C. And that after telling me that I didn't need them because wires should last at least 100,000 miles. Pretty incompetent. Plus, they had to order them. Rockauto had the suffix C model wires for much less and I had them in a couple of days. Can't remember the price, but somewhere around $8-$11. So many guys have commented about them melting form the heat, but that's not the problem. It's also interesting that when one wire fails, the engine runs terribly, not just a miss on one cylinder. I think this is because when one cylinder stops firing, the engine pumps unburned fuel into the exhaust. The Ox sensor sends the info to the computer and the computer interprets it as too rich in general, so it leans the mixture to all cylinders to the point it can barely run.

  • @robertatkins272
    @robertatkins272 Před 2 lety +4

    something I've noticed is that chevy trucks usually have a heat shield over the exhaust manifold and fords never do....chevy trucks always seem to run quiter longer before they get manifld leaks....I have heard many many fords only a few years old with exhaust leaks vs many quiet cheverolets that are 10 years old or more still nice and quiet.....it is not my biggest complaint with ford but damn it is about time they make some improvements in this area
