  • How to open mason bee wood trays. The directions are simple to follow, and help the mason bee raiser know how to easily open, clean out, and then put back together the wood trays after fall cocoon harvesting.

they sift sand over the cocoons and it wipes the mites off. Then they store the cocoons for the winter and set out in spring.

Would you mind showing a picture of how and where you placed the bee's house in your yard? I'm curious to see the placement.

I am surprised you didn't wash them and even bleach them. Would that damage the trays?

What do you do with the cocoons?

Most people will store them indoors in the winter and then put them back outside in an emergence box in the Spring so when they emerge from the cocoon they can get right to pollinating.

when its cold.. i believe people do it during the fall.. when its cold. they bees get into this hibernate state so they wont wake up while handling them.

I thought mason bee females laid female eggs at the back and male eggs at the front so that the males can emerge first and eat so that they can mate and so that the female only emerges after the males are ready to mate and the temperatures are warm enough to ensure survival of the female. How do you make sure the males emery first?
