    After a long period of inactivity (kids, building house etc...) Picked up photography again. My canon 50d was outdated and wanted to step into the full frame world. After some extensive research I decided to go mirrorless. I first considered even switching to Nikon. For some reason I didn't consider Sony... Maybe it's the branding that didn't appeal to me... I don't know. But boy,... I bought a a7 III second hand with 5000 clicks as well as 2 new lenses. 35 and 50 mm sigma art 1.4. The camera is amazing, with eye af etc... Your videos really are a cataclyst for me learning the song system. I'll never go back. Thank you so much Mark for the no nonsense explanation. This is really good stuff!

    Superb video tutorial as always Mark. So detailed and informative for any Sony user or anyone who takes landscapes handheld. Good tips and tricks and logic behind each option. Only issue is..if we registered the first 3 of your setting videos into the cameras 1, 2 or 3 mode dial (Portrats, Action, tripod landscapes) we wont be able to save this new one as we only have 3 slots (on the A7xx series) and only 2 mode dial slots (on the a6xxx series) so.. hahahha oh well cant have it all. I anxiously await each and every one of your new videos as they are the best out there. SONY RULES and you rock. One of my fave CZcams teachers to say the least. Keep it up. and Happy New Year.

If I save the portrait and action settings to the two available shooting modes, how do I save landscape settings, please? Can I save portrait, action and landscape settings to a memory card if there is only one slot for a single memory card? If so, how do I do it? Many thanks for your extraordinarily detailed advice.

    Hi Mark, thanks again for this video. I wish you could give a complete tutorial on the camera settings, especially the function and short keys. Does function widow change when I change from photo to video? I like your explanation on reducing the contract. This actually does not make any changes to the raw files. I am wondering if you would change the contract of a picture profile to make changes on the raw photos? Do photographers use any picture profiles for photos, or just for video?

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  Před 5 lety +5

      You should be able to find most of those settings on the APS-C cameras. Not sure when ISO Auto Min SS was introduced and you have to remember that the camera does not have SteadShot inside (introduced with the A6500). I would recommend using f/8 instead of f/11 as you have a one stop advantage with greater depth of field.

    When you were talking about changing the contrast setting in Creative Styles for viewing the lcd, I saw that you had adjusted sharpness too. When is this useful for a raw shooter? Many thanks for a great movie!

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  Před 5 lety +2

      The sharpness was adjusted to get a more natural view in the viewfinder. This last one is very subjective as it doesn’t affect the Raw file or the contrast of the embedded JPEG preview that the camera uses to build its histogram to show where possible overexposure is occurring.

    Mark, fantastic set of videos and information, has helped me no end in understanding the A7 cameras. Just moved from Nikon to A7m3 with plans for an R 3/4. I have a question regarding what you would suggest is the best options for my genre which is steam railway photography. I use portrait for still subjects but moving subjects fall between landscape, to get crisp clear definition of the surroundings and action (some of these are moving at 75mph) for freezing steam, wheel movement etc.. I have used your Action Landscape from the image of Mt fuji on the bullet train with good results but are there any tweaks you may suggest?
    Many thanks
    Andy

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  Před 3 lety +1

      I would start with my action settings and the modify/fine-tune the ISO Auto Min SS as required. The distance to your subject also has to be factored in alongside the speed of the subject. 75mpd at a great distance would not require 1/2000 second to freeze the subject. I will also slow the shutter speed down sometimes if I want to add some creative movement blur when panning.

      At the moment I am not using a Recall Custom Hold for landscape settings. I have the Memory 3 on the Shoot Mode dial set to Hand-Held Landscape and M4 for my Tripod settings. As I generally have more time to consider appropriate settings when shooting action I just use either 3 or M4 as the starting point and then optimise the settings from there.
