- I spend 3 days building a bushcraft shelter camp with retractable roof, raised bed and simple hand tools. An area where we practise survival skills and enhance our knowledge of bushcraft. Dad also joins me for the build!

Been a while since I’ve been here! I’m now in the process of writing down ideas of what to add to it and any suggestions are welcome! I’m thinking:
- Smoker for fish and meat
- Potentially a pole lathe and small forge area for me to practice traditional craft.
- Then maybe some sort of oven (not brick oven). Let me know your thoughts! #bushcraft #camping #offgrid
Smoker and an outhouse
I would do something about water collection too with all that rain dripping off that tarp you can make some charcoal and then make a filter or just collect it to boil
13. Thank you for sharing the video, wish you a new week full of energy
If you fancy a bit of tin smithing, you could make a 'tin kitchen' or 'hastener' to place in front of a fire for baking and roasting.
I agree with a smoker and outhouse, but how about a food-supply cache/storage?
The videos that include your dad I like the best. I don't follow his fishing channel (I tried) but that's not my thing UNLESS it's the two of you. That's when the magic happens, in my opinion. The two of you together are great.
Farther and son strongest bond two people can have is each outher cherish the days you get to spend with someone that loves you so much time is short and life is precious
Unlike everyone else...I don't have any advice to give. I just enjoyed the upload.
this brings back old camp vibes...
My favourite style of bushcraft shelter. Enjoyed.
It's amazing how many dead standing trees there are in the forest you are working in.
To see you and your father work thogheter feels real good in my heart. I'm 58 years old and still work with my father sometimes. We both like nature and my father still enjoy sleeping out. 🏕He is 85 years old. Stay safe an take care. I wsh you the best.💝
My Daughter and I love bushcrafting, I take her out a few times a week teaching her the things I was taught and picked up when I served in the Royal Marines for 17 years, there really is nothing better than being outdoors with your kids doing what we both love. We are on the lookout now for some land, private land, and write to a few to see if we are able to use a spot to practice and build on. Great videos as always.
Really cool video! Nice seeing you work with your dad too!
I found this very calming and instructive. Wish I was younger as it's something I'l like to try (too late now) . The sense of accomplishment must be fantastic. Great work.
You build the coolest things and your tips are great!!
This was truly a pleasure to watch.
love seeing you and your dad working together.
Respect for the amount of work.. 😮
Others have said it, but I have to echo:
These are the kind of videos that got me into your channel and get me excited! It's also so cool to see your older builds around still and how they look now. But building the new camp/fort, improving all the various aspects using the new skills/techniques you've acquired with the experience/practice you now have... This is what it's all about to me. Often in life we have to start over on things, but we do it better because we learned more and had more experiences. Absolutely love it. This is my favorite series on your channel, and not just for the project, but your old editing style. The combination of the project, the raw sounds and visuals, cut together in such a simple, beautiful, and pure way, then a bit of fun and commentary to wrap up. And seeing your dad doing it with you always brightens my day. Thank you so much!!
Rub your bread with water and then give it a few seconds, turning frequently, on the grill over the fire. That way you'll get the crispy crust back.
Phenomenal video as always.
Hello Mike you and Dad are so cute❤❤
A little bushcraft asmr
amazing. inspiring.
Love courgettes. Wild garlic in there would work a treat.
I love your videos, and also love that your dad is helping on this build
🔥🔥🔥Отлично - избу разберем - построим шалаш🙌
Excellent video dude, lovely ASMR sounds to chill with and had me guessing what you were building the entire time!
Glad you enjoyed!
Você é a maior referência no Bushcraft que conheço. Parabéns meu amigo
I have not been here for along time last time I saw a man who owned a wood now I see a man who is as one with his wood well done young man
Would you be willing to make a “Da Vinci bridge” style shelter?
Curious how practical it would be for one person to build.
They do look cool, might give it a go at some point.
❤❤❤greetings from Viet Nam ❤❤❤❤
I LOVE the fire platform!
Thanks! With the ground being mostly peat and often dry, it was important to have it raised off the forest floor.
Just a thought, but id wager if you rolled that tarp back up with a piece of Paracord or some such, maybe one on each end, you could unroll it with out needing a stepping stool. Might make it easier to use that way, but it'd have to be affixed at one spot on the rotational log so itd maintain tension. They do similar with spring loaded RV Awnings. Dunno if that helps you or not
What traditional woodcrafters must have had plenty of was time. All the sourcing of the right wood and rootlets; all of those saw cuts amaze me.
The harvesting of the material is the most consuming part by far!
I've missed these kinds of bushcraft build videos from you. Been a while. Maybe build a table to one side of the raised bed for preparing food? Maybe a way to hang your pack on the back wall, a shelf or "hook" or something? Might also be nice to see you build a decent chair, not just a couple of stick tied together, but properly fitted together. And maybe for your fire, some way to make it a rotisserie???
nice technical analysis
Looking great! Would love to see a tour of some of the older buildings too! All the best!
Brilliant video. Thank you for sharing it with us all.
Early Crew
These builds are my favorite. You're very talented 👍
Thanks for this video Mike!
Very good❤❤
what a great build ... and cliff hanger lol ... until next time
Hope you continue to feel better and your family stays well. Lovely video as usual. Thanks!
A brit making "streaky" bacon!?!? 😂
Good job, exellent video👏👏
Awesome build
This is why I started watching your videos!
Reusing straightened nails, I presume 😅 *Edit right as I send this I see your dad straightening one 😂
I absolutely LOVE these build videos! Keep'em coming man! Great work!
Have you guys ever built a American pioneer cabin I’d like to see that I really enjoy watching your videos
Like the fish trap
I reckon you and your dad should do a teepee
hood v
vid on channel keep up the cool vid you do thanks lee
Really love these videos man, thanks for doing, filming and editing them so well. Additionally thank you for teaching me so many different things through your channel, really appreciated.
Probably need to build a chair so you have something to properly stand on for the high up items.
Great camp! I'm a little envious. Here in CT the shape of your build is dictated by how many times you start a new hole because the rocks are in the way and how crooked your poles are.😂
واقعا زیباست و من آروز دارم یک روز ی برای چند روز شده در این کلبه های چوبی زندگی کنم
Excellent video as always mate. I want to impart something I learned from Wranglestar with respect to burning the ends of the logs to prevent rot and insects from eating them. He drills a hole into the logs above the ground and pours used motor oil into the holes and therefore down into the logs to achieve the same results. He also is recycling the oil in this method. I have never done this but I figured I’d share 👍🏼
Wranglerstar is an absolute melt.
I miss the days where wranglerstar used to be a good channel... not sure what happened, but a ton of his new videos are clickbait and just overall wierd. Shame what the youtube algorithm does to folks.
@@harmonic5107 I can understand where you’re coming from and even years ago he had rubbed me the wrong way a few times but I think he’s been speaking in code because he knows that the government watches and he’s been giving advice on how to protect yourself and your family if and when any type of apocalyptic events happen and there are roving gangs of people who want your supplies and it’s certainly a possibility but I don’t think it’s going to happen. I think a lot of survival companies are making a lot of money these days cashing in on peoples fears.
Doesn't sound very environmentally friendly to me...
The oil stays in the wood and doesn’t leak out into the soil. It prevents insects from eating it and the wood from rotting out 😉 It’s also much easier and faster than burning logs all day

Dang I’m early for once
Looking good good but all l could think of was poor axe every time you pounded a post in. Make yourself a maul. Maybe the fire pit needs to be under cover considering the summer we have not got
Great video as always. Question? Would you consider this a long term camp? Bc I’m interested in living like this.
This looks like a repeat video that I've already seen. Still like it, keep up the good work
Glad I’m not the only one suffering de ja vu!
Mike. It’s good to see you looking healthy again. Just a thought. In many of our Mexican cooking with zucchini squash, we often pair it with corn. And. We also pair this combo with chicken. (Spices…salt, pepper, onions, bell pepper, garlic, and especially cumin). Try it sometime. Appreciate your work. Your friend from San Antonio, Texas.
You should roll a rope up in the center of your roof tarp, long enough to hang over the front beam when it’s rolled back. Then you can just pull the rope to roll out your tarp.
You’re a lucky bloke!! I wish I had a woodland to bushcraft in..
unfortunately in todays world having anything with a blade even in a woodland would get me arrested..
What country do you live in if you dont mind me asking?
@@kevinpappers4494 I live in England
Mike, what were you using to blow the fire into a stronger flame?
Just his fingers. You press the tips of your pointer fingers and thumbs together so there's only a little hole, and push hard against that with your lips so air doesn't leak out the sides. Because all your breath is being forced through a tiny hole, the airspeed increases; so you can blow on the fire from further away and avoid the smoke. You could do it with a straw if you brought one
😁👍🏼
A pull rope rolled up with the tarp would make it a tad easier to unroll.
Can you do another big build
Are you going to add more support under the tarp and nail the sides to prevent pooling during heavy rain? Or is retractable on purpose to let light in?
🖐😎👍
Challenge: Using only a Victorinox Farmer Alox X, build a Shelter
Added difficulty: Only Cordage freshly made from plants allowed...
I'd love to see what you can achieve this way...
If that's not a fish trap, I can't think what it is! Didn't realize you had water in your woodland.
Awesome video. What is the name of that lil bug repellent that you hung up ?
I'm just curious do you own the land your building on?
Great video! Why do you fire the bottom of the poles before you put them in the ground?
Slows down rot and repels bugs to some degree. If you put them in the ground without that they wont last long at all
Looks nice !
Question: Why no gloves?
No gloves for what? The building part? I don’t tend to use them for that, but sometimes when cooking I wear them or if ground is really wet then it helps.
Burning the logs…Helps last longer?
Question if you can get to it. What’s the tool called that you used to “skin” the tree? And what is the point in burning the wood prior to placing it in the ground?
Draw knife or Spud, I believe is the name of the tool. As far as burning the log, I believe it's supposed to help it from deteriorating and also as a bug repellent.
Is someone visiting soon?
Déjà vu
Valheim in real life
I would add a rain catchment system, an outhouse and maybe a chicken coop and rabbit hutch.
So how many of these have you done. Why dont you put them altogether like.a.bushcraft village or something im wondering were they all are .please share
He has a whole series like that on the channel though?
@kevinpappers4494 yeah I no but only shown singley I guess he must knock it all down and do a new build
Swear I've already seen this but good recap I guess
What have you just done Mike you just barley beat ecoli and theirs just been a huge scandal about ecoli in blueberries from quite a few British food companies I do hope I'm wrong peace and love from 1 leg uk England
It’s quite scary how much e.coli is about at the moment. Best to try and grow/harvest as much of own food as possible!
Tie a rope to your log and let it wind up as it goes down the roof, when you want the roof up simply pull on the rope and it will roll the roof up as you pull.

too cool to use gloves?
No talking=sleep time. Talking=full video watched. Goodnight...

You preassembled your pancakes that’s cheating😂
Why you talk so much? Blabla this blabla that, I really love it.
I pretty much immediately stopped because I'm not interested in watching almost the same building content over and over again. Unless it has your Dad and your dog in the video.
Best regards, luck and health in particular.
