Good video I been trying to buy this third brake light for my 2011 LT. But I kept getting the wrong one I apparently have a 2013 LTZ third brake light also
How hard was it to remove the lens from the light? I hear you say it had double stick tape but is it pretty due-able? My lens cracked today and I'm looking to replace just it with a another that the light is out on. My light is good but not sure how hard it would be to remove my lens, the other lens and put it on my original. Thoughts>?
I broke the lenses cover in multiple places. The tape had dried and adhered to the plastic pretty tight. I believe if you look at previous messages, someone put a link to a shop in Nashville which will do it for you at a reasonable price. It was a serious pain pulling them apart.
Any ideas on where to buy this 3rd break light besides the Chevy dealer who has $472 price for just the part which is outrageous. I have not been successful finding a replacement on line.
When I looked on Google, I found about three or four spots. Are you looking up the Part Number: 228942256 ? I looked up one right now www.gmpartsdirect.com/oe-gm/22894256 and it popped up for $293.83. That was about what I paid for it. Look around though because shipping should be free! Hope this helps?
Nice video, I did some research for my 2013 Black Diamond Avalanche and have discovered that the LCD lights may still be good and the cause of your 3rd stoplight not working is due to a bad diode on the circuit board. I ordered a light from a salvage auto place, installed it and it worked for a day and then it quit working. I ordered 1N4002 Diodes on Ebay for cheap 10 for 1.95. I then soldered a new one on and it worked. So now I have two working LCD lights. The circuit board is located on the back of the light where the red and black wires connect. Pull the rubber jacket off and there you will see the circuit board. It takes a little work to get into a tight area without burning anything, but it can be done with a little patience. It does not need to look perfect, just get a get good connection with solder and just bend the diode wire in place where they do not touch anything else and you'll be just fine. If you need help or pictures, please let me know.
If it is just spinning, then the nut plate has broken. You will have to pry something between the head of the bolt and the cover. Put something soft like a rag to protect your paint. If the bolt won't move at all, buy some WD-40 and spray it and let it sit for about an hour. It is probably rusted in and you will have to break it free. Hope this helps?
Great video, thanks for your time.
Thanks, very informative!

ok, thank you!
John Davila Thanks for the tip, I will try that before paying $400 for the light. Could you please send me a pic of the diodes?
Thanks
my email address is johndavila88@hotmail.com and I will send them to you.
Hi John, I assume you took the light assembly apart to install the diodes? If you still have pics I would appreciate you sending. Thank you, Kevin
Thank you for your research. Will attempt fixing mine now. Where did you get the diode from?
In Texas if 3rd brake light out they won’t pass your truck for inspection and then no inspection means you can’t renew your tags
I believe CA has the same laws, but since I am in AL (Roll Tide), I don't have to worry about it. Hope this helped you?
you have the choice to take it off your truck and send it www.ledfix.com/ for 119.99 plus shipping. they will fix you old one.
One of the bolts wont come out
