- The Swiss Psalm is the national anthem of Switzerland.
It was composed in 1841, by Alberich Zwyssig (1808-1854). Since then, it has been frequently sung at patriotic events. The Federal Council declined however on numerous occasions to accept the psalm as the official anthem. This was because the council wanted the people to express their say on what they wanted as a national anthem. From 1961 to 1981 it provisionally replaced Rufst du, mein Vaterland ("When You Call, My Country", French Ô monts indépendants; Italian Ci chiami o patria, Romansh E clomas, tger paeis), the anthem by Johann Rudolf Wyss (1743-1818) which was set to the melody of God Save the Queen. On 1 April 1981, the Swiss Psalm was declared the official Swiss national anthem.
In 2014/2015, the Société suisse d'utilité publique organized a public competition and unofficial vote to change the lyrics of the national anthem.

Really epic anthem, the Swiss psalm is one of my favourites
I live in Swiss and i dont like it... Ok i like it but i dont love it... A anthem need to be powerfull and the swiss anthem sounds like a hymne in the church.

@@timschopflin876 that is because it WAS a hymn written by a pastor. it’s name literally translates to “Swiss Hymn”. I’m Swiss to and while I like it I do prefer “Rufst du mein Vaterland”. More patriotic lyrics that actually prioritise the Swiss.
@@TrangDB9 see that's the point. Different from monarchy Switzerland never really gave a shit about "people chosen by god to lead their country". And I think the athem should honor exactly that, it should honor that Switzerland was build by people and blood who didn't wanred some strange "chosen person" as a ruler.

was natürlich kein Problem darstellt
Das ist leider nicht mehr oder nicht überall so. Vielerorts lernt man die Hymne in der Schule nicht mehr, schade was an Kulturgut verloren geht.

I never heard of Switzerland fighting in the Thirty Years' War, the Seven Years' War, the French Revolutionary Wars, the Napoleonic Wars, the Italian and German Wars of Unification, World War I or World War II. This begs the question: Has Switzerland ever fought in a war at all? If it didn't, then how come it exists?
Switzerland was one of the most aggressive state unions once, sending their mercenaries all over Europe. And they definitely fought in the 30 years war and also Napoleon took some chunks away from them^^
Only in younger history, they became that typical neutral state.
Even the pope has a Swiss Guard, one of dozens that once existed all over Europe.

Es ist zwar ein ganz schönes Stück. Aber ich finde, dass die Schweizer eine mehr landesbezogene Hymne haben sollten. Ich meine, das hier wäre eigentlich eher passender als Hymne für den Vatikan. Eine andere Hymne, wie "Rufst du mein Vaterland" oder was ganz anderes wären passender.
RPS Die Schweiz war mal ein christliches Land, deshalb der Text. Die Zeile „Betet freie Schweizer, betet“ deutet schon auf das Land hin. Es werden übrigens immer wieder Versuche unternommen, die Hymne oder den Text abzuschaffen, bisher jedoch ohne Erfolg. Ich hoffe, das bleibt auch so.

Louve Rousse No, this is the actual anthem. It replaced „Rufst du mein Vaterland“ because it had the same melody as God save the queen. This anthem here (Schweizerpsalm) is a Christian hymn and was composed in the 19th century. Because of its Christian lyrics there were some trials to replace it or to change the lyrics. These people want to abolish everything that’s Christian, so they hate this anthem. I hope they never achieve their goal!

Da die Grenzen (wie man in den letzten hunert, zweihundert Jahren sieht) äusserst 'wankelmütig' sind in Europa, ist da eigentlich alles möglich. Im Prinzip lässt sich durch die Mehrsprachigkeit der Schweiz eine Zugehörigkeit zu allen Nachbarn ableiten.
Aber jetzt mit der EU gehören wir ja alle zum selben Land, also muss man sich solche Gedanken gar nicht mehr machen 😉

Ich sehe es so: Begriffe wie Deutsche, Österreicher, Schweizer (eigentlich: Deutschschweizer), Elsässer, Südtiroler usw. bezeichnen Gruppen mit eigener historischer, kultureller, sprachlicher usw. Entwicklung. Man sollte sie nicht gleichsetzen, wenn man kein heilloses Durcheinander bekommen möchte. Es ist also falsch zu sagen, Deutsche sind Österreicher sind Schweizer sind Elsässer usw. Betrachten Sie nur mal die unterschiedlichen Mentalitäten von Deutschen, Österreichern und Schweizern! Sogar im ideologisch gleichgeschalteten Dritten Reich fühlten sich viele Österreicher nicht heimisch und voll akzeptiert. Aus gutem Grund wurde die Bezeichnung «Österreich» von den Nazis abgeschafft, weil es für etwas ganz anderes stand, als was sie mit dieser «Ostmark» im Sinn hatten. Richtig ist jedoch, dass wir alle Germanen sind, und das wäre auch die korrekte Bezeichnung für einen gemeinsamen Staat: Germanien. Die Deutschschweizer sind Alemannen (genauer: Hoch-Alemannen) und gehören somit auch zum germanischen Volk. Die Deutschen müssten also in einem solchen Staat auf die Begriffe Deutschland und deutsch verzichten, alles wäre germanisch, weil auch die anderen Germanen die gleichen Rechte und die gleiche Stellung hätten. Deutschland wäre nur noch die geografische Bezeichnung für eine Teilregion dieses Staates, die Deutschen könnten nicht mehr allein über die Geschicke ihres Landes bestimmen (Ich bezweifle, ob das vielen Deutschen schmecken würde), weil man wohl diesen Staat in typisch germanischer Manier stark föderalistisch strukturieren würde, damit auch jedes Teilvolk zu seinem Recht käme. Noch etwas zu den Nationalfarben: Wer für die grossgermanische Lösung ist, müsste eigentlich die Farben rot-weiss oder schwarz-gold vertreten, das waren die Farben des Heiligen Römischen Reiches Deutscher Nation (zuerst rot-weiss, später schwarz-gold), das alle Germanen vereinte.
Ich sag es mal so: weniger als die Österreicher, ganz klar. Die aber auch nicht zu 100%.
Die Schweiz ist ein Vielvölkerstaat, nur die Deutschschweizern gehören zum Deutschen Volk, genauso wie die Deutsch Österreicher, Lichtensteiner, Luxemburger, Flamen, Niederdeutschen, Südtirolern. In der heutigen Schweiz leben auch die Rätoromanen, Ladiner, Franzosen, Italienern, die Deutsch Schweizern sind immer noch die größte Ethnische Minderheit.
