Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance (PS2): Sub-Zero on Max Difficulty

  • For the second video in my MKDA series, I'll be playing as Sub-Zero. Similar to how he was before, he is still an awesome character to play as, albeit harder than Scorpion (He's actually given Level 5 difficulty on the character select screen). He has his classic freeze move, though he lacks his Slide, Ice Clone and Ground Freeze moves (though the last one was given to Bo' Rai Cho instead and has the same effect, and his Slide is now a throw move you can do). He instead gets his Cold Shoulder, which is a charge move which knocks the opponent back. His best move by far his Ice Shaker, where he freezes the opponent if they get too close to him.
His fighting styles in this game are Shotokan, Dragon and Kori Blade. His best style in this game is the Shotokan although Dragon isn't bad either (He can Power Up when you press R1 in this style), and he can impale his Kori Blade into the opponent which is hard to do, and I don't really like it since he doesn't have many good combos with it. Like Scorpion, his Fatality is a really impressive one.
One thing to note is that I pick the alternate costume by pressing Start as opposed to his default costume, because quite frankly, it really sucks. Quite a few characters have better alternates than default costumes, but others have worse alternates. Other than that, enjoy!

The most innovative game in the series, so far ahead of its time and still holds up to this day.

And graphically the game has aged much better than future entries in the ps2 era. Deception had arguably suffered the worst graphical downgrade in terms of environments, character models, animation and special effects especially during Konquest mode. Armageddon made some visual improvements over Deception but not by a great deal considering they still overall look like shit especially during Konquest Mode and Racing Mode.
Most people would say Deception was the best MK game during the ps2 era but honestly I would disagree and say Deadly Alliance is arguably the best. This is because I liked the fact that Deadly Alliance was more original in terms of it's use of environmental designs instead of using a bunch of ugly recycled environments from the 2D era that we're seemingly throwned together in Deception. Konquest Mode in Deception was fun since you got to explore deeper into the Mortal Kombat lore. Not to mention there are loads of unlockables to collect during this story mode. Unfortunately it's over far too soon and is overshadowed by chess kombat, puzzle kombat and a few other modes which I didn't find to be great new additions to the series.
There's also the fact that the voice acting in Deception and especially Armageddon ranged from so so to bland mediocre and even though in Deadly Alliance the only voice acting that's heard during cut scenes and character endings is Raiden I gotta say the person who voiced him actually did a pretty decent job from little that we hear his voice in game.
Overall Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance is the best MK game in the ps2 era and in my opinion was the last good MK game made by Midway due to it's better story, wider variety of kombat arenas as opposed to the ugly ass recycled ones in Deception, much better graphics and character costumes (aside from Reptile) compared to Deceptions which looked rushed and thrown together, better voice acting (even though we only ever hear Raiden speak) and loads of unlockable content plus an extra unlockable character you get from playing through Konquest mode by playing each of the 21 characters.

Loved the way you played this classic! Most people only use one combo or one fighting style and do fatalities for every win.. Gets boring!

Haha thanks. I have an updated playthrough of this game that’s way better than this.

Thanks. Also yes, I did find watching the same fatal again and again can get boring, so on some fights I left them alive.

You have more koins to pass this difficulty, that was hard for me.
But good playing with Sub-Zero anyways. This fighting game is so dark like the other MK ones.

Yeah, there is an incentive to play the higher difficulties as you earn more coins by doing so, but yeah, thanks.
