- The 1968 Dodge HEMI Dart owned by Clint Brunner is 1 of the 80 factory built Hurst LO23 Lightweight Super Stock drag cars. Read the full story here: bit.ly/BrunnerDartLO23
Previously owned and raced by Dick Smith of Farmington, Michigan and Jim Keyes of Durand, Michigan, the 1968 Dodge HEMI Dart Super Stock drag car is acquired by Clint Brunner in February of 2017. The LO23 Dart paint job has changed several times throughout the years, but Clint returned it to the factory primer gray/black scheme.
Clint also set aside the 1968 Dodge Dart correct 426 Super Stock HEMI for safekeeping, and put it on a engine “run stand” so he can fire it up from time to time. The LO23 Dodge Dart received a new all aluminum custom spec 604 HEMI powerplant with original style Cross-Ram induction built by Tim Banning of “For Hemis Only”.
On a conservative dyno at just 6,500 RPM, the Super Stock 1968 Dodge Dart new HEMI engine made 950hp. Clint only did a dozen 1/4 mile hits with the motor still being broken in, running in the 9.10-9.20 range at 146-147 mph. The plan is to turn the dial all the way up to 10 with the trans brake, rev limiter, and shift points to dip into the 8's.

Love the look and sound of the car!
@@mikecanam9477 It's a LO23 Dart....as mean as it gets. Thanks for checking it out
Fantastic!!
I loved watching this video
Hated learning that it had been ruined throughout the years by knuckleheads.
No electric car will ever be this cool no matter how fast! Mopar forever
Amen to that
That’s goddamn right
You can say that again Mopar and gasoline forget those dumb electric cars.
Magnetic launch roller coasters accelerate faster than the rickety wooden Cyclone in Coney Island but IMO the Cyclone is a better ride. Electric cars are usually quicker but are no substitute for old muscle.
Yeah no fucking shit🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
This is so bad-ass..such a rare car and still get to watch it fly down the track
Super rare indeed, but them LO23 Darts were built to live 1/4 mile at a time
Oh! What a Mopar beast! I really love LO23 Dart and BO29 Barracuda Super Stocks. Iconic machines of drag racing. Thank you for this video, Danny. Great job.
Best car on the channel for sure. And Clint has more cool Mopars we will cover in future 😎
@@HotAmericanCars Perfect! Can't wait.
The best Car to ever come out of the factory.
Can’t argue with that
Ruined by a bunch of drifters through the years.

I've owned my NovaSS for 43 yrs and was my 1st car but I love the old mopar's from 68 to 71... love to have a 70 GTX 440 6PACK or a big block CUDA
True hot rodder 👊
Now that's a TRUE drag machine right there ! I pray he never gets a wall shot or ever flips it on its lid ever !!!! :0

Been building Mopars almost 50 years, those '68 Hemi Darts are my favorite car. A friend let me drive his,(1st place winner), at Mopar Alley Car Show in the late '90's.
The ultimate factory race car. 50+ years later they still intimidate at the strip
You can thank Mr norm for this... bb in a dart....
Hell ya I liked! 👍👍👍 The "Mopar Missile" was running the track when I was a teen. 😁
Did you spent some time at the track at that early age?
@@HotAmericanCars Yes. Every weekend.
@@ronm6585 I’m jealous 😜
Clint has an amazing collection of cars! Love his Dart!
Yup. Can’t wait to cover some of his other Mopars.
53 years old and still going strong!
The engine in it is not as old, but yeah....the holy grail of Mopars
I had a 68 Dart GTS back in the day and it was nothing like this but I loved that car.
I bet it ran pretty good with the Big Block under the hood
Damn,What a Beast !!! My favorite muscle car of all time !!! Thanks for sharing !!!
had 3 68 darts all bb - 2 of them gts 383's - a body big blocks nothing to compare ... sweet ! GOD Bless
When I heard the sound of the classic Mopar starter winding....😉👍
good video production! Who doesn't love the history and performance of those '68s
Thanks a lot, I appreciate the possitive feedback you left on this and the '71 Cuda video. Stay well
I need the smell of that launch... God I miss that...
50+ years later watching these Super Stockers run is still a blast
Who's car we driving let's go miw.
The guy driving the mustang disliked this video
I know right. Why would you play this video and then dislike it?
😂👏😂👏😂
SICK machine, seems to just peak out at the end so perfect gearing. Goes down that track straight as an arrow, for a 1000 hp and a Dart very impressive
Wow a big Hemi in a swingin' sixties musclecar ,I need nothing more !!
Amen
And that uphill at the end of the track is fucking badass
In the 70's a car lot in Saginaw Michigan had a used Dart with a 440 Magnum in it by Grand Spaulding Dodge. Should have bought it.
Fuckin monster. The fastest muscle cars ever built...68 Dodge Darts & Plymouth Barracudas...hands down.Mopar rules. Thats my dream car right there.Awesome.
Nothing from that era can compare with the HEMI factory super stockers, and even today's cars can hardly compete with it
@@HotAmericanCars yea i hear you. Supposedly they didnt qualify or were not seen as muscle cars because they only produced a very limited number of em. But i dont care. To me & all Mopar purist..they were. And they ruled. You can line up any ac cobra copo camaro any big block anything...& they would be smoked.Period. :)
@@nelsonhued9031 Amen to that
@DaveCaresForYou I think it was rated at around 425 horsepower and 490 pounds of torque
I personally saw one of these back in the 1990's somewhere here in Michigan. You have no idea....
In car pass you could here the engine was breaking up on top end. I would start looking at the ignition. Without a doubt these are the baddest factory cars ever made. Car is absolutely beautiful. Good luck with it.
Clint is definitely a guy who can appreciate a car like that. Glad you enjoyed it.
One hell of a good job on the camera! THANK YOU
This made my whole year.
That’s the nicest feedback I’ve had on any of my videos 😎 appreciate it
I grew up around drag racing and I love your Dart true factory awesomeness and I'm a true Mopar man !!
No man can appreciate this beast than a Mopar man
Love a Hemi Dart
Every Mopar man does. It's the ultimate drag strip beast
Those things were so cool & so fast
I was lucky enough to be at the 68 National Drags at Indy where they first ran.
Definitely something to remember
@@HotAmericanCars I was home on leave from the Marines before I was sent to Vietnam.
I took lots of pictures.

I love watching a hemi dart pound the drag strip 😍
It doesn't get any better than that for a Mopar man, right?
Wow!!! This thing is an absolute MONSTER!!!!
Better get working. On my dart 68 also ,mine found south of the border,273 V8 4 on the floor. Haven't made up my mind restore as originally ,or track excellent video keep up the good work ❤
You can't beat a HEMI. It's science.

That bad boy is wicked; gobs of torque eh!
Totally awesome!
Awesome ride.
One of the best muscle cars ever built
My 1989 K car had Toque steer,,, HEHE. This looks very nice lately Keep enjoying it
What a beast!
Hard core Mopar
Looks like it needs a bit of setup on the front suspension.
Bob Glidden said the ideal launch is one where the front tires are just skimming the ground.
Less stress on that classic chassis, also.
It’s possible. I’m no expert on drag cars, just doing the stories for the owners
Heck yeah!!!
Thats cool!
Plenty of fun in a historic drag car. Thanks for checking it out
@@HotAmericanCars I bet!
Thank you!
He's so close to breaking into the 8s.
The car launchs really nice.
What happens if you drop the tire pressure 2 pounds?
He will be in the 8's very soon, still figuring out the set up, and there is more potential for sure
@@HotAmericanCars whatever pal. I still have my Papa's hemi dart he got in 69. Motor shot years ago but even with a hellcat engine it run easily in the 10'$. This guys dart can easily get to mid 8'$ pal

A++++ Awesome car, great video, I need a cig.
Now, that’s a cool comment 😎 much appreciated
Love me some big Hemi Mopars!
This car is just plain crazy , this car is the car i always dreamed of owning , my brother had a 1968 dart swinger 340 4 speed the engine was modified pushing 425 horse it sacred me a couple of times but he could kick ass at street racing back in the early 70's we were doing 140 one time down an old road that the other kids would come out also and race for pink slips. I miss those day's monkey wrenching muscle cars or building up some of the craziest looking machines by making gassers out of them
What was the weight of the car with fuel and fluids? Very nice video. Impressed with the launches. No tire spin past the hole shot. Perfect balance!
Hey Mike, glad you enjoyed the video. You can read the full story on our website (link in the video description) Sorry, but Clint never told me how much the Dart weighs.
The competition on the second run looked like a 68 super bee ? But it gave him a good run..Mopar strong 💪
Glad you enjoyed the action brother
Awesome
I want one.
jim keyes is from my town he has multiple hemi cars but hes the type that u never see any of them he has a barracuda more updated same color as the daty factory light weight

😅👍
Beautiful old dart. The new mopar should just go in the crusher though.
I hear you, nothing can compare to those old school beasts.
Dang gone lovin' it best wishes scooter 🐶
Glad you had fun watching brother 👊
Don't touch my GTX Dart 😆
Cool story. I remember this car from it's second owner. Wow! Is that a cable drive tach? Not many of those left.
Thanks John, glad you enjoyed it, and yes hell of a Mopar for sure.
Back in the 70's I had a small block camaro with a dual point Accel distributor with a tach drive hooked up to a Moroso tach mounted outside my windshield. I miss those days and that car.
What a Jewel!!!!
Did you ever make a pass with the original race Hemi? I would like to see that pass!
I'm sure he has, but we didn't get any footage to use in the story. Sorry
Never had the chance owning a HEMI Dart, did have the chance of a 440 68 cuda, 440 six pack orange 1970 charger, 1970 LS6 chevelle convertible, 1967 ls5 427 corvette convertible.
Not many had a chance to own one, many haven’t even seen a LO23 Dart in person. But you definitely had some tough cars sir. I’m sure you have great memories too.

This 1968 Dodge Dart super stock rocks. It's Mopar or no car.
Bad ASS!
Enough said, right
What's the rear-end gear ratio of that Dart?
Not sure Arnold, just know that it has been tubbed and narrowed.
The HEMI Darts originally came with 4.88 gears.
Does it have leaf springs in the back

@@HotAmericanCars ok thank you
Big kick out of holding the steering wheel to the left, to keep it straight. Wonder if it is like launching a WWII fighter.
Pretty much the same...lol...perhaps few horsepower less in the Dart
Hemi dart to this day is still the fastest NA car thru the 1/4
The LO23 Dart or the SRT Demon, these are both Mopars 😉
I see Tim Bannings name in ther I guess he built the hemi in it right now I have a friend dwight vorsteveld that is friends with Tim I think his 68 barracuda has one of Tim’s motors in it for hemis only is in Bewldley on canada 🇨🇦 at least the last time I saw him he builts some fast hemis one of the best mopar guys in canada Dwight’s place up the road from Tim’s place rice Lake Ontario and dwight works on some of the finest mopars in the country knows lots about mopars that’s for sure

Thanks for watching, but Clint never shared with me his driving secrets.
what is red button ???
Space ship mode :D
The 64 & 65 Plymouth & Dodge B Bodies were the first Super Stocks with the exact same engine combination but carried 200 lbs more weight. Instead of purchasing one of these hard to find Beasts I decided to recreate my own. My Plymouth Belvedere I 2 door sedan started with an actual date code correct factory 426 Race Hemi from a retired A-990 car & rebuilt to factory specs to produce 650 Hp & plus 600 Ft/lb torque, The car has a 18 spline Hemi 4-speed with 4:30 gears & Super Stock springs. The Race Hemi is in a Class by it self, '66 & later Street Hemi's are just not the same.
Looks like you did a great job. I would love to do your Mopar story on our channel. Will you get a chance to film some high quality videos, which we can use along with some photos?
