    Very interesting review!
    Thanks for making it.
    I actually prefer the hybrid model AeonTimeline adopted, instead of the monthly subscription new softwares tend to have now. This way you can pay for updates when you think it's actually worthy, and the rest of the time you just can continue using your curent version of the software for as long as you want.
    I had AeonTimeline 2 and decided to upgrade to 3 because of the new features (especially the narrative view).
    I'm currently exploring and using some of the new features for my WIPs and I'm really happy with the upgrade (though there are things I wish they improved, like the mindmap, which is currently too simplistic for my needs).

      A company supports its software for free once it put it out until they no longer support it. No one will ever convince me of it should be any different. Even subscriptions don't work that way. It is mostly to break up payment of expensive software. You're paying to get the huge update, which would have been the next version of the software that you would have paid for anyway. Aeon Timeline you are paying for the normal updates after a year. Never ever will pay for that.

    Great video! Love that you go through all the good and bad with a sense of humor XD
    As for if I'll buy it, maybe. You're right that if it was a lower price it would be much better. That's really the only thing holding me up.
    Anyway, thanks again for all the time and effort you spent on this video.

      I'm glad it helped you out.

    Thanks for the review. Your humor kept me watching until the end. I've written 8 novels and I agree with you on Scrivener. It is the best. I've used Aeon Timeline heavily on the last 4 books, but I'm not sure I see enough writer-oriented benefits to make me want to upgrade from v.2 to v.3. I've just bought a new M1 MacBook Pro, so I am looking at lots of new software. I'm just going to stick with v.2 for now. And BTW, I, too, bought into the hype about Plottr, and not sure I will use it now. It feels so cartoonish. Not sure why or how it is better than outlining in Aeon timeline + Scrivener.

      I still haven't used any of the features I said I didn't try yet. At some point. Aeon Timeline 3 is good, but all my issues still hold true. If you just bought a new Macbook Pro Aeon Timeline 3 can wait if at all. I'm glad you like the video. The humor was the only way I could possibly do another review video.

    BC stands for 'Before Christ'
    AD stands for 'Anno Domini' (year of Our Lord)

    • @TimRG
      @TimRG  Před 7 měsíci

      True. However, BC and AD are no longer the terms used for those eras. It is BCE (Before Common Era) and CE (Common Era). Therefore they should update them.

    Some bad points about version 3:
    1. User has to have an account and be signed in to use the software. This is not disclosed in the terms & conditions or anywhere else.
    2. Files are synced to Aeon's servers. Why would anyone want to be forced to use a server they are not familiar with? Something else not revealed until after a purchase is made.

      I've haven't heard this, but that is stupid. Which just makes me question things far more.

    This video is going on 5 months old, and I found it while looking for tutorial videos. Still not finding anything in English that goes into any detail on the new features. I'm starting to regret my purchase.
    Addendum. ...and I just discovered (the hard way) that it doesn't autosave. I think that's the last straw for me.

      @@TimRG Although... I'm rather forgetful. Even a belated set of tutorials could turn my regret into something much more positive. Are you reading this AT team?

      @@P2TE Sadly, probably not!

      I upgraded from version 2 to 3 and I'm currently exploring how to use the new features for my WIPs.
      You could go to the official forums of AeonTimeline to look for suggestions and help on how to use the software the way you want.
      If you have questions, you can also ask me here and I'll try to help with what I can. 😉
      So far I'm really happy with the upgrade!
      By the way, here you can check a more in depth video-review I just found:

      @@Andymegaara I appreciate the offer to ask you and even going to the forum. I'm one who will follow a video tutorial if there is one or just play around until I figure it out or get the sense I don't like how something works, etc. If you ever make tutorials on Aeon Timeline 3, send them my way.

    Great review. How do you actually use Timeline for story planning? How does it compare with Scapple (by the Scrivener creators)? How does it compare with Flying Logic?

    • @TimRG
      @TimRG  Před 2 lety

      I'm glad you enjoyed my unprofessional review. You can find how I'm Aeon Timeline in this video: czcams.com/video/bq5eRVVllTs/video.html. As for how it compares to Scapple, it doesn't. Scapple is a Mind Map software and Aeon Timeline is a Timeline Software. As for the Mind Map in Aeon Timeline, I haven't used it yet. I've never heard of Flying Logic. Glad you enjoy the video.

    Thank you for your review. I suggest two other software for you to check out: Causality Story Sequencer by Hollywood Camera Work and Papyrus Author (latest version 2022).

    • @TimRG
      @TimRG  Před 2 lety

      Both software looks interesting. I've seen Papyrus before, just never tried it. Maybe someday. I'm not big on monthly payments. Even with a free option. Thanks for the recommendations. Glad you enjoyed the review.

    Great idea just very poor company policies - which has forced me to look elsewhere for a timeline software - and unless the negatives are addressed - of which there are many with 3 - I won't be reupping after the year is out - nor purchasing Aeon again.

      Hey, just curious what you mean by "poor company policies"?
      I ask because I'm considering a job with them, but want to know the bad and the good before joining
