    Chris--holy cow. This is astounding--I write long, complex books with multiple POVs. This, next to Scrivener itself, is going to revolutionize my writing process. Thank you!

    Just happened onto your channel here and am already loving it. Learning a lot. I've used Aeon from beta and I can't imagine writing without it. Version 2.0 syncing is a great improvement but the way I work, I like even more. I want to be able to jump between Aeon and Scrivener frequently almost as though they are two different views with a single app. But the way it is now, you need to have one app closed to be working with the other. I'd like a dynamic link between them.
    Secondly, arcs still don't work exactly how I'd like. I'd love to be able to have single scenes visible in multiple arcs.

      Glenn Miller, thanks so much for those comments. I'm certain I would have run into those two limitations immediately. I'll still give Aeon Timeline a try though, as trying to do similar tasks with Excel or any other more general-purpose software is onerously complex.

      I'm glad I read your post, Glenn as I was just about ready to give Aeon Timeline a try! It seems almost unbelievable that you can't have them open at the same time! I love the idea of visually seeing the timeline, but this limitation would highly detract from the value. Suddenly this $50 software app is worth more like $15!

    Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I purchased Aeon Timeline 2.0 when it came out but I'm just now getting around to using it with an upcoming writing project.

    Chris--this video has been extremely helpful, thanks a lot for your time and effort! For the benefit of future viewers, I have paid full price for Aeon Timeline 2, and it is worth it. Just have been at it for a day and has proven very valuable already. Will keep visiting your videos, Chris!

    Thanks for this useful video. On my view of Aeon, sync shows up along the horizontal top menu and not as a file drop down. Aeon and Scrivener are a great combo.

    Chris, thanks for this-there seems to be very little out there to show how to use Aeon2 with Scrivener, and your short video does the trick for me! Question: do you know of any historical calendar templates that can be imported to Aeon2? I'm looking for something that would show significant U.S. historic events in the 20th century, to instantly populate my historical novel's timeline.

    • @ChrisFoxWrites
      @ChrisFoxWrites  Před 8 lety +3

      +Jann Alexander (Austin Details) I don't, but if I hear about a calendar like that I'll let you know. I suspect we'll start seeing a lot more templates for Aeon over the next few months.

    Hi Chris - I've been using Scrivener for a while but in watching this video, I must be making my entries into Scrivener much different than you do. I have several works going at once. One is a series of books in fact. Each of those is a folder unto itself, but then I just have a document for each chapter/episode of my book. Of course Scrivener gives you quite a bit of metadata to play with such as tags, character sketches, dates/times etc. What it looks like is that I'm going to have to literally go back into Scrivener and re align all my documents (chapters) to be event driven. In my chapters I might have three or four "events" or confrontations between my characters. What Aeon seems to need is for those to be separate documents in Scrivener so that they'll synch. Am I right? I also am having trouble with the concept of "arcs". I'm a big comic book reader, and understand how arcs are used there (literally series of episodes), but not sure how that works in fiction writing yet. Thanks for a good video and I welcome any helpful comments!.

    Cool. Done and done... I now own Aeon Timeline 2. There is also a pre-release sale of half off! Between NANOWRIMO discounts and this promo, I haven't paid more than $25 for any writing tools.

      Anyway, would love to hear what you think after using Aeon for a bit.

    Thanks so much for this tutorial !
    I've discovered lately this software and I try to use it to organise the timeline of my ongoing trilogy. I already had a enormous event charts but it was not very visually practical...
    I begun to transfer it to Aeon and the manipulation is very smooth and it's awesome to see where I need some adjustments etc.
    I still have troubles to see how to use colors on one hand and arcs on the other to optimize the timeline... or how to track the coverage of each novel in the trilogy
    And as there are some things that might also change with the very structure of the calendar (like I may have to change Eras and Year 0 without changing the continuity of my events) and I'm not sure I can do that if I already started to fill it... I don't know if there's a way to make that...

    The problem I have with Aeon Timeline in version 2 and even in the newest version 3 is that it wants to order my scenes chronologically rather than how they come in the book. With multiple arcs going on simultaneously, and with a couple flashback scenes, I need the numbering to follow NOT chronologically but how they are presented in my overall story. That is a HUGE gaping hole in this software and it's making me look elsewhere, e.g. at Plottr.

    • @ChrisFoxWrites
      @ChrisFoxWrites  Před rokem +1

      You'll have to let me know if Plottr is easier to work with in that regard. I make multiple timelines, one for the main plot, and then one for a framing story if it's not set chronologically. It's not perfect, but it's worked.

      @@ChrisFoxWrites I just tried the dynamic syncing in Aeon Timeline version 3 using your directions and it worked great, though the Windows version is somewhat different than your Mac version. Unfortunately no matter what I do in Aeon's timeline it still sorts things chronologically with the earliest chapter starting at the top. That's not how my book is written. I want to see them in the order they come in the book, with the first chapter starting at the top. How would you even deal with a story like the movie Memento which is basically written in reverse chronology?

    Being a scrivener fan myself, this immediately grabbed my attention. I'll certainly be checking it out. On another tack, I notice you have Createspace and kindle versions of Destroyer out. Do you have any plans to produce an audio book? Once again, keep up the good work.
