How to make edible Watercolor Wafer Paper Butterflies for cake decorations.
I get asked all the time if I could make a tutorial on watercolor butterflies, and today is the day!
If you’re still intimidated by working with wafer paper, this tutorial is for you! Learn step by step process of cutting, shaping, and painting these fancy watercolor butterflies.
And, of course, I have a template for you, so you can make your own cake decorations!
YOU WILL NEED:
Wafer Paper (I use Saracino)
Wilton Gel Colors: Violet and Buttercup Yellow
Dipping solution or vodka (you can use water, just plan accordingly for the drying time)
24 gauge white wire
Flat brushes
Americolor Airbrush black color
Fine tip brush (I use 00 size)
Sharp scissors
And to make it extra special:
Edible Gold Dust
Confectionery Arts Jewel Dust (I loooove this one amzn.to/3fHiHXF)
Piping Gel

These are beautiful!! I wanted to know what gold dusts are you using? I love the way you are storing them...I use random cups and glasses and its not very organized! :0)
I know, right? Somehow those tiny jars are everywhere and you can never find the one you need! Look for beads storage at any craft store of amazon!

These are really beautiful, but as a hobby baker, I'm so confused by the use of edible cake decorations that are then inserted with wire. Why bother? I don't get it! I am going to try these, though

I'm sorry, but I'm confused because on another video you made, so said you didn't like to use alcohol because it damaged wafer paper? 🤔
Thank you for your question. Alcohol make wafer paper very stiff and hard, so I never use it for flowers where I need movement and flexibility, but to paint of decorations, such as there butterflies - it's perfect, because I need wafer paper to keep it's shape.
