    Such a beautiful design! Love the motor location, aesthetically much more attractive than any other I've seen and it must be much quieter than the nose, retractable and pusher styles. Bravo!! I want one.

    Impressive. I'm sure a lot of people have seen the video where the Perlan 2 uses the thermals to ascend to between 50,000 and 55,000 feet (I'm sure my number is wrong but I think the glider went higher than any commercial flight). Basically the glider managed the height without any kind of propulsion. I'm sure with a prop like this one, that little extra push could really help in some cases.

    very cool plane, and also sexy design....appart from that I also like to think about solar plane concepts; maybe a flying pancake shape would give more solar cell area and lift

    • @BrightBlueJim
      @BrightBlueJim Před 6 lety +2

      As it happens, I've been running spreadsheets on how to power an aircraft from solar cells. The surprising thing was discovering that the amount of power needed for sustained flight is proportional to just two things: aircraft weight, and lift/drag ratio (aka glide ratio). And the thing that has the biggest effect on lift/drag is the shape of the wing. Basically, for the same area of wing (and thus the same amount of solar power available), you can get better than FOUR TIMES the lift/drag ratio from a long, narrow wing than you can from a short span, long chord wing. So I think the designer went the right way with this.

    Exactly what struck me..... Add some rigidity between the wing and the fuselage. Paul Allen's strato launch worried me too with so much flexibility between the two fuselages...all the torsion aeroelasticity concentrated in the mid wing. I'd pull my money out of this project. Also a great variation of cg with the second passenger variable being so far from the cg of the plane....

    • @DualDesertEagle
      @DualDesertEagle Před 7 lety

      Bad assumption, idiot, look at the video featured on my channel in which u can see me shooting a bunch of real guns several years ago and dare do say that again!
      And while it's true that I know little to nothing about this particular design I said what I would improve about it based on what happened in the video, which was the wing tilting to one side a little bit, which in turn I would wanna prevent! How the fuck does that imply that this design is bad!? It doesn't, that simple! It's just something I said that I would personally do and I would definitely modify mine according to it if I owned one!
      Also, I've already built my own planes and even tho they're just RC models that still takes some structural and aerodynamic knowledge, and in my videos about them ur gonna see that I'm also quite a decent pilot!
      And last but not least, "butthurt" in this case means that u took a simple expression of what I would personally do if I owned or had designed this aircraft as a personal offense got so pissed about it that u started insulting me for no good reason, so here's my final reaction:
      SHUT UR FUCKIN TRAP AND P!SS OFF, DICK-FOR-BRAINS!

    • @BrightBlueJim
      @BrightBlueJim Před 6 lety +1

      Somebody said that it has a 25 kW motor on it, and can run that for 20 minutes on the batteries. There are two things that require power: getting off the ground, and getting to a place where you can find natural lift. I'm guessing it takes only a couple of minutes to get it into the air, so the more important factor is how far and how high you need to climb before you can start using it like a glider and start recharging those batteries.
