  • SubTropolis is 5 miilion-sq ft, 1100-acre of limestone man-made caverns that was mined 50 some years ago and is now utilized as a commercial warehousing underground storage area in Kansas City, MO.
SubTropolis lay 160' beneath well known tourist attactions Worlds of Fun & Oceans of Fun, and has a network of approximately 7 miles of roadway and several miles of railway running through its' maze of intersecting tunnels & limestone pillars.
I never knew this place existed, but it claims to be the world's largest underground storage facility.
Parking for big trucks leaves a bit to be desired however, in my humble opinion. ;)

I went to Cave 8800 and pillar 110 this morning, just 100 feet away from where you shot this. The video doesn't do justice to how tight and difficult it is to take 70 ft. of tractor & trailer into this place and wiggle it into a dock without hitting anything. There's a reason we're called professional drivers! Good job and thanks for sharing this video. I just sent it to my wife and said, "THIS is what I actually do for a living!" :-)

I had delivered a load here many years ago. I was very glad to see a man guide me into the dock. It was very interesting.
I was more nervous leaving. But glad to be out of there.

They should have you drop the trailer outside and use a yard tractor to take it inside.

w0w Thanx Nora, but it probably is not deserving of that kind of praise!!! This job takes me places I would never go under normal circumstances, and that's kind of the fun part I suppose!! You never know what challenge lay ahead .. until you are faced with it,

geeez that's roomy, I liked the one for blue diamond where you had to start the trailer into the hole, dolly down, unhood, back around the salt piller hook back up and push it into the dook

Your front bumper is in far greater shape that I thought haha I thought I heard a light scrape on one of those turns. Thank goodness for plastic bumpers haha.
Here's to you not having to go there again! *takes a drink*

I made deliveries here in the late 90s. It’s harder than this hand (driver) makes it look. He’s really good. I remember the frustration and a lot of cursing. No incidents, I still am amazed. Security seemed tighter unless that was edited out. Great video thanks for the butt clenching memories! Blind side, also ...no spotters..

In Carthage, you can pull up between the pillars and hit the docks straight. Your door is in a weird spot.

I went in their in 2004 looking for a certain place for employment. I just drove in with no security at the entrance what so ever. I was in there for over 2 hours and actually got out of my car. Walked into at least 5 buildings without no one at the desk are anything. I even went to the restroom in one of them. Unbelievable , that I was allowed such access.

LOL ... Me too! Still trying to figure it out! It could have been a lot worse though .. just imagine if there had been trucks at door 1 & 2 .... that door 3 would have been ALOT harder to hit!
Thanks David for your generous compliment!
