  • Hello fellow painters, today I explore what method works better to start a painting: with an under-sketch or without it? I dive in into some observations about both paintings/methods. Of course, my skill is not yet mastered and have not painted "proper" portraits in a long time. With that said, I hope my lack of skill shows (yes), because one definitely turned out better than the other.
Try it out yourselves, see how it goes!
    Happy painting!

Good theme for a video. In my opinion the 2 options falls in the same category (no previous drawing), hence the fact that you did not actuality draw the face with pencil, or charcoal prior the paint application on canvas.

Definitely, I see what you mean! I'll be doing a pencil sketch comparison another time. The way my mind approached that second one was to prepare me for what to paint on top in terms of restrictions, like the scale to fit it well, without focusing on feature sketching, which I guess I should've done, in retrospect.
Thank you for your feedback :)
