- To save the Amazon rainforest, Brazil’s President Lula must work out who owns it. But with 22 different agencies registering land claims-and many of them overlapping-it’s not an easy task.
00:00 - How is Amazonian land distributed?
00:27 - How do land claims conflict?
01:15 - How is Lula helping?

Brazilians owns the Amazon!
Nope, the Yanomami own the Amazon.
And where the yanomamis are from? Are they from Britain? USA?Japan?
@@Frederico4929 They're the natives of that colonized land. All the others including you are IMMIGRANTS!
Are you educated ? When you remove all the trees and burn the plants to the ground, all the animals/insects die too. This is not just about tree's, but about destroying ecosystems and a lot (By a lot I mean most species) of special and unique animal live in the Amazon. Because of its geological location (Brazil is a humid and warm place). Places like Amazon, Costa Rica and Ecuador and the Galápagos Archipelago are very special places. And most of the trees that live in Brazil cant grow in the USA and Europe.
This is not different from poisoning land for your own benefit and therefore killing everything that lives there.
If Europe really cared about it, they would have made their own land in Amazon (in French Guiana) an example of preservation, but it's not the case. They even wanted to build one of the largest gold mine projects there (Montagne d'Or).
Brazilian people owns amazon not europeans or north americans!
You can't just burn down a forest that's critical for the rest of the world's climate. If you do, then don't be surprised when sanctions are launched
No, only the Yanomami own the Amazon.
Yanomami is just another indigenous tribe of maybe hundreds in the amazon moreover they are all brazilian@@Kenan-Z
@@Escocia803 Meu amigo ano que vem muita coisa vai acontecer lá
The disregard for the environment is a serious problem here. A shame, just like it is in the USA and in almost every country in the world!
Estados unidos é o país que mais comete crime ambiental no mundo
British Colombia logging is a perfect example.
Brazilians own Brazilian Amazon!
Ya Brazilians of native descent
Cê nem save doque eles estão falando
Nope, the Yanomami own the Amazon.
@@charlesleeray8512 So we will need to return the lands in all countries of the world to their true owners, let's start by giving the lands in the USA to the natives.
We need to pay people who live there to care for the green life instead of burning it to survive.
Excellent idea. That would be a positive externality of capitalism, in my opinion.
That’s our Amazon punk
Who owns the Grand Canyon?
China!
Save our precious rainforests!
The fact that we get free videos from The Economist on CZcams is priceless; keeping the education and knowledge alive. 🙏🙏🙏
Forests can grow in the USA and Europe too, just plant the trees, or you can pay Brazil to produce oxygen for you

I am educated, many trees that can grow in Europe and USA were cut to farm livestock and crops, they can't cut their forests and destroy wildlife to make money and ask other people not to do the same
Based on actions/sayings during the EU/Mercosur trade negotiations I think Macron thinks he owns the Amazon, and I suspect a large portion of Europeans agree with him.
Eles querem continuar poluído o mesmo de sempre, mas com uma bandeira "de pegada 0 de carbono" para parecer mais bonito
Thank you for that knowledge!
The Elites. Bankers.
Much needed presevation and reforestration,, don;t we love the Rainforest
Trust me when I say, most Brazilians don’t care about climate or the ecosystem. They are more like the animals than the animals people are trying to save.
Why is America allowed to destroy our environment but we feel the need to protect Amazon…
Make it a protected national park
That sounds next to impossible considering the sheer size of the forest.
Great.....❤❤❤❤❤....
No one owns anything it was all for us to enjoy

Who owns the brazilian amazon?it's not a complicated answer. It owns to the brazilian people!
Save Amazon rainforest..lungs of Earth.
I know Jeff Bezos owns the American Amazon but I don't have any information about the owner of the Brazilian Amazon.
of the Brazilian people bro
As a brazilian, it`s sad when the USA and countries from Europe send money to help protect the Amazon rainforest. It`s sad because that money will end up in corrupt politicians pockets and we have a lot of politicians! All corrupt!
TAKE EVERYTHING AND GIVE NOTHING IN RETURN , HOW SAD
Capitalism

here in Brasil, we say "fool me, I like it"
Nobody Owns any Land but tell that to your Owners.
Tried to comment doesn’t work ..
Might give up my longtime subscription to economist doesn’t allow any discussion or feedback.

Why doesn’t Bezos say or do something to help save the lungs of the earth, and the origin of the brand name? Asked this 10 years ago and no response, oh well. World is doomed anyway, enjoy your ridiculous online Christmas shopping.
Economics. The dismal science (if one dare call it science). Economics views nature as an “externality.”
Capitalism is antithetical to life.
The only economics we should follow is Herman Daley’s Ecological economics.
Depois que Lula chegou ao poder a Amazônia está em chamas, o dobro do período Bolsonaro e ninguém fala nada. Mídia sensacionalista, ninguém quer o bem da Amazônia, querem os bens da Amazônia.
Vou aproveitar e te levar a sério. Favor então apresentar as fontes que corroborem vossa afirmação
Deforestation is proven to be down significantly since Lula was elected. Do some research before spouting lies
The Communist
I own the amazon, i just let people do whatever with it.
I listened to your last podcast and you said " Hamas's massacre on israel" and this is completely wrong , Isreal is killing children and women and is committing a genocide in gaza right now. And now i'm telling any one who read THIS COMMENT don't listen to them and educate yourself about the palestinian right at least if you're human.. FREE PALESTINE 🇵🇸

Misinformation and that's it. Half of this video isn't true at all and there is a clear purpose on this realease. Land ownership is clear and the burning area is the same as always have been, the data shows it. Do me a favor and give a thumbs down on it... If you want to release info about the area do some research, talk with real people who live there and then release... Unless you just want to spread misinformation due to a bad intention.
Brazil is mogrel country, not of pure race country.
I do. Case, closed.💰🏕💰
