DNReacts- I have a few videos on my channel but they are low quality. I was wondering if you could tell me how you can record a video and yourselves?
Ohtani just won world baseball classic series and was named the MVP.
Baseball fans have been waiting for a player like Ohtani for the last 100yrs. He's simply a unicorn. It's a pleasure to see him play.
100% - Love watching him play. Appreciate the comment 🤝
@@DNReactsBefore there was Ohtani there was Ichiro Suzuki probably would have broke Pete Rose’s hitting record had he played in the MLB his whole career. I never seen bunt home run over the fence till Ichiro did it. The guy was a five tool player meaning 1. Canon for and arm 2. Steal bases 3. Great hitter for average 4. Hit for power and 5. Great with the glove. The greatest player in my opinion of all time.
@@andressandoval2904Ichiro had power, he didn’t hit for power. Hitting solo home runs at leadoff would be considered a waste to Ichiro lol. But yea if Ichiro really wanted to he could have easily hit 30 home runs a season. I witnessed his pre game bp and he was absolutely nuking balls into the upper deck. Ichiro-San was a freak.
I'm a Rangers fan and feel blessed to see this man as much as I do. Even when we lose to him it's sort of a soft loss because you get to witness the dude go to work.
Kind of, Babe Ruth's career ended around late 30's or 40's. But close.
and in 2023 he's having an even better season.
It’s crazy. He’s out pacing Judge’s home runs from last year😧😧
His fantasy points are always through the roof 😂 always got him when he’s playing
He really is so incredible! Willing him to make the playoffs this season. Thanks for the comment 🤝
@@DNReacts You guys sure know how to time a video. Ohtani just finished one of the best months in baseball history. If you don't mind stats, he slashed .394/.492/.952 for an OPS of 1.444 in June. And had 3.4 fWAR in that month (the highest ever).
@@Pressplayboylow key if you do t have him in there it’s the biggest mistake you could make 😂
Shohei Ohtani is without a doubt the best baseball player on the planet, a world-class athlete with discipline and a good heart.
Love this! Appreciate the comment 🤝
It's very simple, Shohei Ohtani is Mr Baseball.
usually I get annoyed when ppl throw around the term "goat," especially when it's someone who's only played for a few seasons
Ohtani is the one athlete I feel comfortable saying it about this early into his career...guy is an alien
And he's playing at an even higher level this season. Just hit 15 homeruns last month alone. Dude is unstoppable
Ohtani’s June 2023 is just out of this world. He is just amazing.
He’s definitely incredible! 💪 Appreciate the comment, thanks 🙏
raking
And right now he is on an absolute tear. Just hit a 493 foot moonshot for his 30th homer of the year. This beast had 15 (!) homers in June.
Technically Babe Ruth didn't do both at the same time. When he was with the Red Sox, he was a stellar pitcher and an average hitter. When Babe Ruth was traded to The Yankees he stopped pitching and that is when his batting stats went up. Shohei is doing both simultaneously, often in the same game. He is a Unicorn.
Thanks for the info, really appreciate the comment 🤝
Yep, Shohei is doing the things we mythologized Babe for doing, except Shohei is doing them better and for longer. Unreal
He was already hitting more home runs than entire teams when he was a pitcher for the redsox. It was only for like a year or two, but he definitely was elite at both simultaneously at one point
@@FizzyCape in 1919, his final year in Boston and as a starting pitcher, he had 29 HRs. Compare that to his stats in New York, where he only had 2 years below that, one of which was his final year. In his first year as a Yankee, he hit 54. Yes, he did both while in Boston, but his best offensive years were in New York after he stopped pitching.
@@MrKatsdad2112 In 1919, babe Ruth alone hit more home runs than ANY TEAM (other than the redsox obviously, where he hit 29 of the teams 33)
Sure he was BETTER with the Yankees, but he put up superhuman offensive stats with the redsox. You have to look at the full context, not just judge the stats by todays standards.
Ohtani is having an even better season this year, the Angels are in the playoffs race right now at the halfway point of the season, despite the Angels going through some injury woes, in big part thanks to him. He's definitely the best baseball player ever imo, and if anyone argues that he is not, it's usually the argument of longevity, like for example 10 good seasons are better than 3 all-time great seasons.
Everyone wants to see him in the play-offs, and he's already shown in the WBC that he can perform in the biggest stages of baseball. Hopefully it happens this year, if not, I just hope it happens sooner than later, before his peak is gone. But who knows, no one thought he could do both before 2021, then we thought 2021 was his peak and 2022 rolled around, then now in 2023 he's even better. He might just be able to do what he does for a long time, despite not many people can even just hit or pitch at his level for an extented period of time.
Im rooting for him to make the playoffs this season, really hope it happens. Great read of your comment, thanks for the info and for posting, appreciate it 🙏
Um bonds has 3 better seasons than him.
yeah hopefully they can fix their reliever core that has been struggling recently
@@thegoat4617 Bonds did it on HGH and steroids. If Ohtani did pod, he would shame if family, him self, and the whole country of Japan. He could not show his face in public
bonds didn’t pitch.
Great story! I didn't know this video. I think it tells well about Shohei's life in Japan and the USA.
One thing I want to add is that he was repeatedly criticized by famous baseball players and critics. They strongly think he can't work as a hitter and pitcher at the same time. But Shohei believed in himself and finally, everyone noticed his talent is totally different from the other players. Some legendary players in Japan apologized to Shohei for having said extremely negative opinions about his decision for becoming a two-way player. His talent is really on a different level..
Nobody could believe it would be possible until Shohei himself proves it by showing his success.
He’s so incredible, an unbelievable player! Appreciate the info and comment, thanks 🙏
Two famous Japanese baseball players who acknowledged Shohei's possibility from early on: Matsui and Ichiro.
Glad Ohtani believed in himself otherwise we miss a once in this lifetime opportunity to witness someone so rare.
I know who the best players of the last 50 years are. None come close to this. What this gentleman is doing is absolutely unheard of. As a lifelong baseball fan and player this is something I'm glad to have seen for myself. And I don't expect many to follow in his footsteps. My only fear is injuries. Baseball seems easy but it takes a toll on the body.
1 hour at a batting cage and I was on my knees! He’s so so so great!
It's so insane that many older baseball games literally do NOT have a mechanism to have a two-way player lmfao
Bonds does cheating or not.
Barry Bonds’ records are as unbreakable as Wayne Gretzky’s. Ohtani-San is truly a gift to baseball and it desperately needed it, but he is not Bonds.
Thank you so much for introducing Ohtani's history to people outside of Japan. When Ohtani was 23 years old, his 5th year of NPB, he did give opening speech of the up-coming-season to all Nippon Ham members, "You want nightlife? Going to drink? Want to do many? If so, we can NOT get victory. If you want to win, we just do playing baseball!" Since some members had fool around in their off-season after their victory in the last season, Ohtani has been always focusing his whole time on training & baseball. He is an amazing human being. Very purpose-oriented. He has lived in this way with joy since he was 14 or 15 years old. What a pure young boy who just love baseball and want to be the BEST BASEBALL PLAYER in the world. We know Shohei Ohtani, you deserve it.❤❤❤
I have shared this story in few other videos but I will comment it again as I really want more people to know about this.
Ohtani’s coach for the Nippon Ham Fighters was asked during an interview what impressed him the most about Ohtani. Interviewer was probably expecting “batting “ “hitting” or even “stealing bases” but he immediately answered, “His personality.” He said Ohtani was the most respectful, polite and the nicest human being he has ever met. The interviewer then joked. “Oh come on! There gotta be something wrong about him! Share with us!😂” but the ex-coach continued, “There really isn’t anything negative about that man. He is just perfect.”
In Japan, being respectful and humble goes long way in any field you are in. That’s probably the biggest thing Japanese are proud of about Ohtani. It’s so easy to become arrogant for what he has done but he still is the nicest person you will ever meet.❤❤❤❤❤
Ohtani just dropped a monster 490ft+ bomb the other night hit his 30th HR before the end of June! 😲
He hit 2 this week that had the nastiest sound off the bat. Hit them both into orbit
@@DravenCult the sound is just different. He's insane.
Crazy stats! His Homers make such a noise off of the bat too
It sounded like a literal gun shot. I actually laughed out loud the first time I saw the clip of that homer last night
...and in 2023 he's having an even better season
100% - Really enjoying watching him this season
And he’s killing it this season. He’s just an amazing, once in a lifetime athlete, and also a very decent human being. I hope we get to see him play the game for a long time to come.
He’s a modern marvel. This year he’s killing it again, it’s actually made baseball worth watching
🇹🇼🤝🇯🇵
Ohtani is the best baseball player of my lifetime by a wide margin. What he has been doing for 3 years now is so ridiculous, you'd never believe it was possible if it wasn't for him.
He is the greatest player baseball has ever seen. The man hits 495-ft home runs, throws 100-mph fastballs with five other pitches in his repertoire, and runs faster than most Major League players. Babe Ruth played in an era where players weren’t specialized to their respective positions; Ohtani is dominating in an era where players in general are stronger, faster, and understand the game better.
You are right!!
Just WOW! Enjoy watching this phenom because you won't see anyone like him for another 100 years.
Baseball at the MLB level is so competitive. You've got to have more than extraordinary talent. You've have to be gifted genetically, possessing both power and speed. Have the mental strength of a Samurai. Have a fanatical devotion to playing baseball and be lucky enough to avoid catastrophic, career ending injuries. Check, ✔check,✔ check ✔and check.✔ I think this guys got them all. I just hope his body can take it.
Another great video guys. You are batting 1,000. 😛
I don't know how old is this video, but something that wasn't mentioned here, he was MVP in the WBC, and is getting his best season so far, he is leading his team in every single category both as pitcher and hitter, right now there's no other player that hits the ball harder than him, this is completely insane!!!, he is leading the both leagues in Home runs and RBI, he is going to be a bad example for young kids who wants to play baseball because, that would be almost impossible to be like him, i just can say good luck whoever tries to.
Not to be that guy but he clinched the WBC by striking out his Angels team mate Mike Trout for the final out. (I'm also a poet)
Im so curious too see how long he can do both at an elite level. Crazy to think how dominant he'd be on one side if he just focused on 1 or the other. I hope he can keep this up for a long time though. Its just much watch baseball no matter what he's doing. I truly believe even if his career gets cut short from the demand of doing both he'll be a lock for the Hall of Fame. You cant tell the story of baseball in the future without telling what Ohtani has done
I hope so too. Hope he stays healthy and we get to enjoy the magic he brings to the sport. Appreciate the comment 🤝
maybe untiL #SHOHEi is SiNGLE, thats why He is not having a relationship because the focus
will be cut into haLf,,, #SHOHEiOHTANi love of Baseball and manners is so different from the others maybe the only thing that
can break that is the reLationship, maybe if He Decide to have a FamiLy or an accidental injury from the game, Hope He will not🙏🏻Because when taking care of His health i believe SHOHEi is doing His best to maintain His healthy Body...
absolutely insane how he's improving every year
He's already my goat idc what anyone says, nobody has ever been even close to this level of talent in baseball history
He's got to do it for many years, like Willie.
Ken Griffey Jr and Barry Bonds are far and away the most talented MLB players ever and it’s not remotely close. You cannot be serious right now.
@@axe2grind244 surprised it took this long for someone to reply being mad about it😂 yes, obviously you're right. The kid is my real goat for a full career, but ohtani is currently at a level above what anyone has ever done. I think the highest peak deserves just as much recognition as a full career of playing great🤷♂️
@@sethp26 I’m not mad about anything, but you can’t make a claim like that and expect someone to not say how categorically false it is. You can’t turn an opinion into a fact just because you want to. I can’t say a guy entering his 4th year is already better than the guy with the most unbreakable records in sports outside Wayne Gretzky.
@@axe2grind244 i never said it was a fact¿ i said you're right, I'm just messin (barry bonds is a cheater tho, his record is void)
I'm from Japan and I'm just so proud of him and so happy that people who are not even from a country where baseball is big at all have started recognising/appreciating him. I love how you guys are so respectful towards a sport you probably weren't that familiar with before. Keep it up, I really enjoy your videos!
People are already mentioning that he’s having an even better season, but to be more specific, last month, he just had the BEST month in the HISTORY of baseball tracked by WAR
Wow! That is incredible. Thanks for that info, really appreciate it 🤝

Thank you for your comment, appreciate it 🙏
感謝您的評論,他將打破所有記錄,他是最偉大的!
I visited Japan in spring - just weeks after they won the World Baseball Classic - Ohtani’s face is absolutely everywhere. He’s in ads for a really wide range of products. It’s crazy.
If companies hire a mediocre and ugly player like Dak Prescott to do their commercials, you know Shohei is going to get a lot more opportunities in the marketing departments. Last I checked he was making 30+ mil per year in promoting products and I am sure it's gone way up since then.
He's on pace to hit 65+ home runs this year....he already has 30 so far...and he's 7-3 with a 3.02 era and 2nd in strikeouts
There are MANY MANY people including myself that DON'T EVEN LIKE Baseball but we follow it now because of him. We are just here to appreciate greatness!!!!!
I can't miss a Shohei start or at bat. I'm so excited for my Angels!
He’s too good!
The Astros own your poverty franchise.
@@anthonymartinez0865 Haters be hating.
As an angels fan, on a scale from 1-10 how concerned are you that he will leave?
@@ZachWilsonsMomsFriend Concerned - 10, but I do think the Angels will step up and pay him. The last thing we need is "The Curse 2.0."
I live in Houston and the Angels are, nominally, a division rival but I LOVE Shohei and I try to see him every time they’re in town. Obviously I hope we win every game we play him but I also love seeing him do what he does. I never take it for granted
Love this! I would love to see Shohei play! Might be tough to do that anytime soon unless he joins Phillies or Mets (they’re in London in 2024). Appreciate the comment 🙏
This a lot admires him more. Not after for money. It is how he loves the game. A great role model.
Someone who hits and pitches this good only happens in little league...he's insane
🔥🔥🔥
Got to see him play live a few times and he’s an all together different animal. He’s bigger, faster, stronger, and just all together better than 99% of players on the field. Not even an angels fan but he’s my favorite player
I get this completely, he’s my favourite player too 😅 It feels impossible not to like him. Such a great player and seems like a fantastic person too.
Ohtani is tearing the cover off the ball this season 🔥
Love this! 🔥
Shohei Otani is G(RM)OAT! Greatest Role Model of All Time! Everyone can look up to him; but totally our kids! Great work ethic, great heart, great humility, great personality ,,, and also BTW, great atheletic ability (power, speed, mind) and unbelievably great results. Hoping there will be many more all-rounded Role Models (in any sports or field) to mirror his example!
Shohei Ohtani was not born perfect, nor was he created by anyone overnight.
His physique, muscle quality, and core balance did not come naturally to him, but are the result of 12 years of self-evaluation of his own physical and mental characteristics from the age of 16 to now 28, working daily to improve his muscle strength, stamina, core balance ability, and flexibility.
He has made his own self-improvement plan, and he has achieved it. We must not forget that.
He is the result not only of God's grace, but also of his intentional self-improvement of his God-given mental and physical condition so that he can play an active role in baseball pitching and hitting.
This has involved managing his daily hours, eating properly (content and quantity), sleeping properly, strength training, and devoting himself entirely to making his current physical abilities a reality.
Of course, this is not an easy task for anyone.
However, at the age of 16, he has seriously thought about what he should do and how he should do it if he were to achieve what most people would have given up as impossible, created a remodeling scenario in his mind, and practiced self-discipline.
The result is what he is now.
He has also never given up on his ability to play both pitching and hitting, despite the opposition of many coaches and adults to his two-fisted approach to pitching and hitting.
It is impossible to talk about Ohtani without mentioning his upbringing in which he struggled with himself.
And the great thing about him is not the result, but the fact that he challenged and achieved this impossibility.
That is the most important point.
He's going to be pitching at Petco Park this Tuesday for 4th of July and even though I want my padres to win I am so excited to see him pitch and hit in person
Babe Ruth is definitely an all time great, but Ohtani is simply on another level, he qualified as an all star for pitching AND hitting, and is much better at pitching than Ruth was
Ruth played in era of brutal segregation.
Ruth also had a stadium built for him so it was easier for him to hit homeruns lol
@@thatboy3930 So that diminishes Aaron Judge too.
One thing that will be interesting is to see if this leads to more players coming out as two way players as they come up. As seen in this video, so many coaches and executives saw it as too much of a risk to let him do both before he proved them wrong, and clearly this has to have also happened to other players as they come up too. I know I've heard of a lot of current major leaguers who pitched in college before choosing to focus on hitting when they went pro, so hopefully more of those guys will stick with the two way playing instead.
It's great to hear you Brits are interested in baseball!! I like your channel.
Thank you 🙏🏼
As a giant Braves fan, I know he won’t end up with my team but as long as he doesn’t end up on another team in my division, I’ll be happy. He MUST be on the Dodgers or a New York team to have the proper platform that he deserves as well as have a better than average chance at competing in the postseason annually. As always, thank you so much for the awesome, respectful content, DN!
Thank you Nicholas, really appreciate your support 🤝 Also, your Braves are looking very good this year
He’s just got his 32nd hr in just 85 games I think😭 The goat
"Sho Hei the Money" But he doesn't need it.... He has everything in the world.
He keeps a kind of secret but he donated more than he spent. His parents rejected shohei's proposal to help renovation of their house.
So long as ohtani stays healthy he be alright!
The fact about Japan broadcasting every Angels game as well as a Ohtani focus cam is true. I was in Japan in April and at the time the Angels were playing the A's and the game was being broadcasted and in the corner was a feed focused solely on Shohei even if he was on the bench
There is a scenario where Ohtani wins the AL Cy Young award this year AND breaks the AL Home Run record that Aaron Judge just set last year. Would undoubtedly be the greatest season in sports history.
Shohei is by far the real superstar in every meaning no doubt on this planet.
Ruth never struck out more than 3 batters in a season he hit 30 hrs. Ohtani has had 30 hrs and 100k in each of the last 3 seasons. We have never seen this in the mlb
Appreciate the info, no doubt that Ohtani is beyond incredible. Thanks for the comment 🙏
You can't compare era's really. Especially era's that are separated by a century. To do so is an exercise in futility.
The Bambino was known for both pitching and hitting, but he was legendary for smashing home runs.
Shohei can hit, he can pitch a mean fastball/slider/sweeper/forkball, and he can steal bases. He is the entire game of baseball in one man, and a remarkable athlete we might see once a century.
I’ve been a baseball fan since the mid 80s. Diehard Cubs fan and Shohei Ohtani is without a doubt the greatest baseball player I’ve ever seen. Barry Bonds is probably the best hitter I’ve seen and I’d probably say Greg Maddux was the best pitcher I’ve ever seen, but Shohei is doing both at an extremely high level with a high baseball iq, style, humility, and class. This guy is an absolute unicorn and as a lifelong baseball enthusiast this is mind blowing. He literally leaves me speechless at times, we are all blessed and lucky to be witnessing the greatness. Absolute stud.
You need to check out more of Ohtani, he's getting even better this year!
You’re definitely going to see him in the world series now. GO DODGERS!!
No one can predict how long he can excel at both hitting and pitching but with him, anything might be possible. Even so, at some point he might choose one or the other, and there’s no disgrace if he settled for being one of the best power hitters in the game.
OMG. OHTANI MY GOD !
Couldn’t agree more, he truly deserves to play for a contending team
The Angels are simply too middling. They might be in a playoff spot at the moment, but they’re known for missing the playoffs season after season
Great coverage, hope you guys will cover Ohtani in 2024 season 🔥
Thank you, we definitely will be 👍

Finally I've been asking for this for months
Told ya we’d get there, Ohtani is incredible. 5,000 suggestions we have, this one came quicker than most do.
And now in 2024 he’s joined the LA Dodgers and is batting 2nd behind Mookie Betts.
The Angels tried load management and Sho was like naw dog big horse gotta run 🤷🏻♂️
Ohtani isn't fair. He's an actual cheat code.
He hit a ball yesterday at 493 ft (150.3 M) and he's definitely winning an MVP and possibly CY young this year
He's gonna win AL MVP but not a chance at the Cy Young.
@@Kingeptacon one can dream right but it would be awesome to see Shohei get a cy young
@Andrew_-nr7zt You must be new to baseball. There have been more than a few players to win MVP and Cy Young awards in the same season. It's nothing new. The difference is that they all made the playoffs.
And 2023 he’s doing even better lmao
He’s incredible 🔥🔥🔥
He works harder than anyone and does it better than anyone
The work efforts are so impressive. I wish I could be that disciplined. Appreciate the comment, thanks 🙏
今年こそプレイオフ!

Really hope he gets to the playoffs this year 🔥🔥 Thank you for your comment 🤝
He's the only player who made me think baseball is very interesting 😅 his attitude above all the talent is what attracts people. He also mentioned in interview where he's a person who is a bit good w/ baseball but being a better person is much more important.
Fernando Valenzuela (Mexican-born left-hander; 17 MLB seasons; 1980 winner of both Cy Young and Rookie of the Year) deserves mention. Signed by the Dodgers in 1979 and brought on after adding the screwball to his arsenal, Valenzuela was huge in Los Angeles. Valenzuela was one of the better hitters at a time when the National League did not use designated hitters; occasionally Dodgers Manager Tommy Lasorda would use Valenzuela as a pinch hitter. Valenzuela had a unique windup style (including a skyward glance) that was fun to watch. Rumor has it that Valenzuela called (predicted) his own no-hitter in 1990 after he and teammates watched one on television earlier the same day. Although Valenzuela played 17 seasons (between 1980 and 1997), after a brilliant early career, shoulder problems became an issue (as I recall) possibly from Lasorda’s overuse of Valenzuela in the rotation and the screwball (the pitch, not Lasorda). It was easy to root for Valenzuela. Thanks.
NPB the Japanese league is some really entertaining baseball as well. I’ll stay up late to watch those games since they start between 10 pm and 2 am for me
I've been to a game in Japan. Amazing!
Ohtani just hit an almost 500ft homerun last night! Longest ever in Angels stadium. Leading the league in homeruns this year!
Pure exaggerated myth.
@@areguapiri It's easily verifiable with a google search. Cope little virgin LOL.
Hes having an EVEN BETTER season this year..
Finally, we may be able to see him in the playoff!
And now he’s having an even better season in 2023. Through 83 games, he leads the league in home runs and RBI with 30 and 67 apiece with an OPS of 1.070, while being 7-3 on the mound with a 3.02 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 3rd in the league in strikeouts with 127. Shohei is in a league of his own.
Damn, y'all went VIRAL quick...That's the OHTANI Effect in motion.
I said before he is not only a amazing player but as a human being which is rarely mentioned. So hopefully more attention are being talk about!
Check out what he's been doing in 2023 so far. It's indescribable. He's doing things that should not be impossible
We are watching a Generational Marvel blossom before our eyes. He finally gets to play, and GET REWARDED FOR IT with the Dodgers. Strap your seatbelts because its going to be wild!
WAR = Wins above replacement btw. for context if you are a replacement level player you will acquire 0 WAR and basically each point of WAR around the entire team is supposed to accumulate to the total wins of the team in the season
yo btw ohtani's 2023 is so far his best season, and since the video references it so much, WAR wise (Wins Above Replacement, a baseball stat used to measure how valuable a player is compared to the league average replacement) he is on pace to have a top 5 season of all time, in a time where just getting to the major leagues is one the hardest things in american sports
Really appreciate the info, that’s crazy he’s able to do that when the League is as competitive as it is! Appreciate the comment 🤝
And I heard that Shohei being a DH when he doesn’t pitch robs him of a higher WAR; if he was an OF with just an average fielding WAR, his total would be even higher, maybe lead the league.
W.A.R. is the most meaningless and hypothetical statistic ever created. It is absurd make-belief.
@@1utube01 i mean it is fair he doesnt field at all, if he played catcher or center, and average at it, while being a twp he'd get 13+ WAR every season
I am a big Angels fan. I attend probably 30-40 games a year and never miss a broadcast. If you want to see Ohtani in a world series, he will need to be traded to a better team. The Angels are not a competitive team, nor does the management seem to care to be competitive. They just want to market and Orange County is a very relaxed sports fan base so the money will flow regardless of their success on the field. That said, I think it might make financial sense for the Angels to come up with the 600 million to keep him around. The value he brings to the business is well over that amount over the next ten years between international broadcasting, advertising, and sponsorships. Don't forget, he can probably still hit after he retires from pitching. That's probably another few years of selling merch, broadcasting rights, and international advertising. Whatever happens next season, I will support him. Best player of all time. Feel super blessed to have been able to enjoy watching him play this long.
Great you get to see him play so often. It’s going to be interesting to see where he ends up next season! Good luck for this season. Appreciate the comment 🙏
Great content guys. Love how much youve learned and appreciated the game. Requesting again that you guys play MLB The Show 23. Would love to see you play a "sim" and feel what its like to play from the field and box. Throwing pitch sequences, hitting fastballs etc. Highlights how difficult it is. Love the channel.
Thank you, we really appreciate that! Had requests for this and Madden too. We’re considering a Gaming Channel, separate to this channel, a few options we’re considering at the moment as we grow. Thanks for the comment 🤝
Babe Ruth played in a simpler era for the sport. Most players had jobs to make ends meet, and it wasn't nearly as specialised and highly trained/skilled as it is today. Ruth also only played 2 full seasons as a true 2-way player, then gave up pitching to focus on his batting. It's his batting that got the attention of everyone in naming him the greatest player of all time for so long.
Ohtani is doing what Ruth did, but in a far more highly skilled era. It's not just pitching and hitting that has improved, but fielding has considerably improved since the days of Ruth. It's much harder to get the kind of hitting stats Ruth did in todays game. There's also far more variations pitchers have come up with and there were many parks that were much smaller back in Ruth's day as well, so batting against today's pitching is far more difficult. With that ability Ohtani has on the pitching side among the top in the current era, and the fact he can do both at the same time, often in the same game (as this year he's actually batting better on days he pitches than days he doesn't) is nothing short of mind-blowing.
Ohtani has already broken and set many records with what he's doing. With all things said and done, Ruth played for 22 years in the Majors showing how much less of a strain on the body it was back then. That's not something you'd see these days. You can't really compare them like for like, stat for stat given the differences in era's of the game, but Ruth was only ever a pitcher and hitter at the same time for 2 seasons. He wasn't a top class pitcher and hitter for 3 seasons back to back like Ohtani has been.
Ruth only played against white guys. Very important.
He's also one of the best all around human beings too :)
He's hitting a home run every 10 at bats this season. It rarely gets better than that. One year Babe Ruth had a home run every 9 at bats. I think it was 60 home runs and 540 at bats.
It's definitely easier to be pro in two sports than it is to be a top pitcher and a top batter at the same time. Mind you that all other top pitchers have to rest between each time they pitch, but Ohtani actually goes out to bat when other pitchers would be resting. Not only does he bat when other top pitchers are resting, but he's one of the best batters, leading the league in many batting titles as well. There's no one in the league doing anything even close to what he's doing.
He's the reason you can tell the MLB MVP award means nothing.
A baseball reporter asked an anyonomous GM if Ohtani could get a $550 million contract. Apparently the GM said that was too low. He could get the biggest contract in North American sports history when it's time to sign.
He would deserve it just on the revenue he generates, but if I were a GM, I’d offer him a shorter deal but offer him even more per year than on a 10 year. If he is worth 60 for 10 years, maybe offer 80 for 5. Because 10 year contracts seemingly never work out. Even 1 way players potter out by the 5th or 6th year.
But even a declining Shohei would bring in the overseas market and revenue streams.
Wow! This will be crazy! Completely deserved for Ohtani but crazy depending on the final number. Appreciate the comment
It's a straight up cheat code to have Ohtani and Mike Trout on the same team, I know there's a bunch of other role players obviously that are crucial but the Angels in that LA market have the cash to sign the best of those guys as well.
THE GOAT OF THE SPORTS HISTORY HAS BORN
Already 30 homers this year
And now this year he is having a record season so far this year. 😮
Really hope he gets the records 🤞
Ohtani is a uniquely talented athlete who transcends his sport while being the face of that sport. The video you're reviewing only covers Ohtani's career through part of last year. This year, he's on a tear offensively, leading the league in HRs and several other categories. Meanwhile, his pitching has been great most of the time, though he went through a down period and now is back to top form again, with a record of 7-3 and among the top two or three in strikeouts. The comparison with Babe Ruth is ridiculous and should be left in the dust. Ohtani is spectacular at a time when major league baseball is so much more advanced in player talent, physical prowess of average players, speed of pitches and inclusion of black, Latino, Asian and other players who were excluded during Ruth's era. Further, Ohtani seems to flourish even more when doing both pitching and hitting. He feels that doing just one would actually diminish his performance and his joy in playing. Other MLB players are awed by what Ohtani is doing; they can't fathom carrying the physical and mental load he does. The guy is unlike any player ever in MLB and should be guaranteed his own room in the Hall of Fame right now. Longevity is not the issue when you are the unique two-way phenomenon he is, and he's done this at a high level for two and a half seasons so far, while other players are getting injured with frequency despite carrying less of a workload. Don't forget, he also led his Team Japan to the championship of the World Baseball Classic, striking out his Angels teammate (playing for Team USA) for the final out of the championship game as a reliever.
Yes, he's also a great guy and teammate. He's well-mannered, humble but confident and driven; he's also known as a funny guy with his teammates and shows his enthusiasm on the field like he's playing in Little League. In answer to your question, no, he hasn't won the Cy Young award but has been considered competitive for that award the last couple of years, being viewed by most experts and professional pitchers as one of the top pitchers in the sport. Some commentators have said he's the best pitcher in MLB. He has six different pitches he can throw, is consistently among the top 3 in strikeouts and leads the league with the lowest opponent batting average against him. But unfortunately, his team has not been providing him with consistent run support when he's pitching.
He's unreal... I do like beisbol, but kinda lose track for months at a time... I watch that dude ..
I admit I've been one of the skeptics as someone who has been a baseball fan for more than 25+ years. There's no way Shohei Ohtani can be an elite pitcher and hitter at the same time, right? Injuries aside, he has been up there, if not right at the top. I still wonder to this day if he committed to one, would he have been one of the greatest in the game in that aspect of the game that we have ever seen? The conclusion I always come to is who the heck cares? He's not Albert Pujols at the plate or prime Randy Johnson on the mound, but is elite in this crop of major leaguers in both and that says something. Who cares if he could have been better than bonds or pujols as a hitter or on the level of koufax, maddux, clemens, seaver? The fact that he's so close to the top of his competition in both aspects is absolutely as cool as being be best in such a specialized sport. I love Ohtani and what he has done for this sport.
Also lol at your comment about Messi being a goalkeeper, that is a good comparison and also a hilarious thought.
Babe Ruth only did pitching and hitting for 5 seasons before he focused solely on hitting. Shohei is in his 6th season doing both, with no signs of slowing down. And in Ruth’s 5 seasons of pitching and hitting, his highest HR total was 29. Shohei is just hit his 30th HR for his 3rd season in a row.
Shohei is doing unprecedented things in baseball, things Babe Ruth never did.
The stats for Shohei are so incredible! Really appreciate the info, thanks for the comment 🤝
Babe Ruth only did both at the same time for less than 2 seasons: 1918 and 1919
In 1918, he didn't qualify as a batter (too few plate appearances)
In 1919, he didn't qualify as a pitcher either (too few innings pitched). And anyways, he was a league average pitcher (102 ERA+ that season)
