Thanks for the video. I tried a few different SHB traps which worked pretty good at killing SHB, but which didn't solve my SHB problem. In 2018 I started using the fuzzy sheets, just about the same as you show, and that solved my SHB problem.
A friend of mine said he lost 2 queens on the fuzzy sheets. I have found worker bees caught on my sheets, but I'd rather have to replace a queen than have to lose an entire hive.
Take an empty CD case and put inside of it, a square sheet of that material you use to trap the beetles; also make small entrance holes on the sides of the CD case, that way only the beetles can enter and get trapped inside when chased by the bees, and the bees will not be able to reach the fabric material.
Work the sheet with a wire brush gently before placing inside the CD case, that way the bees don't have to waste their time and energy doing it themselves.
You could also replace the fabric material with double sided very sticky tape, just make sure that the bees can't reach the tape through the holes/entrances on the sides of the CD case. The beetle will place a foot or two on the sticky tape, and the other feet will not be able to get traction because of the smooth surface of the CD case inside, and the beetles will stay trapped inside until they die (something similar is used to trap spiders in a house).
I found the secrete to my small hive beetle control. Simply reducing the amount of surface area the bees need to defend. I do this by using foundation-less frames, in between drawn out frames... there is less area for beetles to hide and more bees to defend their foundation area which help drive them out. Great video. Wishing you best of luck and looking forward to you next update
I'm happy that that works for you, but we will be staying with the plastic foundation. Thanks for watching!
Good video, and thanks for helping out Blake Kirby!
Thanks for coming over and visiting!
Best video of this technique I've seen. Guess what I'll be doing when it warms up. Thanks
Well, that's what I was going for, so *THANK YOU* for the affirmation that it was worth the effort!
Wow. What a simple solution. Very smart and great info. Thanks for posting. -Katrina
Thank you so much for the kind comments and for watching!
Thanks for showing the results. Often people are showing ideas but not the results. Thanks again.
My pleasure!
What about sealing the lid to the box (maybe with these cloths) so they can't fly in?
so the link above to amazon takes me to the Dixie towels?
I shared this to my bee club's FB page. Thanks!
Awesome, I hope they enjoy it. Thanks!
Yea that was very cool of her to share your video like that
Good information. I'm gonna try this! Where are you located?
What if we use cotton fluff straight?
Many thanks for sharing
You are very welcome
found you though kirbs towels . we have not had a beetle prob but good video
Thanks so much for coming over and saying hello!
I used dryer sheets. It caught some beetles but also a lot of bees. I wonder if I'd have more success with this type of towel. Thx.
I have heard that drier sheets are notorious for catching too many bees. I'd try the towels, personally.
Msg me your address and I'll throw 1 in an envelope. Good for a few change outs.
I have these, but also still have lots of beetles
I would recommend that you replace the towels more often until you do not see beetles on the towels. If you have an infestation you might replace them every other day at first.
Is this something that you could do as preventative thing?
Absolutely
Nicely done! Thank you for sharing the info and video.
You are very welcome.
Put a square of paper towel or Swiffer pad in a CD case. Then place that in a couple different spots in the hive. The beetles go in the small holes in the CD case and never come out. The CD case keeps the bees out of the pad.
rippy van allen: I thought of that too. Does it work? Thanks
@@rancherman1677 did it work?
Your hive hardly makes any noise. Blake Kirby needs to know about this technique!
Blake takes his sound from a shotgun mic on his cellphone which is very close to the hive. I take mine from a lapel mic that is under my suit, right up under my chin. That's the only difference :-) I recently bought the same cellphone setup he uses, so if I took my sound from that mic (which you can see attached to the cellphone) it would sound just like his :-)
Though he would do well to use the towels ;-)
Why dont you use duct tape to help fluff up the towel so that it can start working right away?
I've heard of people doing that, or using a wire brush. Just haven't decided to bother at this point.
Search bettle buster on youtube
So like an unscented dryer sheet?
I haven't tried it, but I have heard that those can work also.
@@JandjacresNetWhy dont you use a queen excluder?
I'm going to use used dryer sheets they tend to be puffed out less chemicals.
