How about “categorically real”? We don’t need a superlative, we need a description that also implicitly answers the question “in what way is this _not_ real?”

Trust being the most valuable foundation for mutually beneficial trade reminds me of the Warren Buffett quote about reputation: "It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it."
A lot of the greatest works of fiction share many of the same recurring themes with subtle variation in plot and character development. Rom coms are perhaps the best example of this. Once you've watched one rom com, you've watched them all. It's the same formula that gets rehashed over and over, yet the demand never wanes.

No stable, happy, or good hearted people seek control over others in any form, thus no politicians are good, and they are certainly the farthest thing from trustworthy. Just because one guy is pure evil (Justin) doesn't mean the other guy (Pierre) is any kind of good. It just means he's smart enough to say what people want to hear now.
Or at the very least, a few apples that are good for us on net balance, even though they may not be perfect themselves.
Fictional archetypes are more descriptive of the human experience than real and specific events. I agree. I find it a difficult brainstorming exercise to come up with an idea that falls outside of known archetypes. It seems to be impossible. As if the entirety of human perception and experience has already been captured by archetypes introduced through fiction throughout human history. It is like the most fundamental form of thought-language for humanity. Where written/spoken language is a means to describe this more fundamental language of experience.
They sort of touched on this in a famous TNG episode. Story archetypes are like the lego blocks of the human experience.

Finished the first draft of my sci-fi thriller last week! JP, you were a huge inspiration! It's a story about the human condition with plenty of alagory to society's current trajectory. It's my attempt to reinvigorat the frontier spirit and desire for freedom and faith. I tell it through dynamic characters who are on their own journey in a unique Mars colony. Very excited to share it with everyone!

I use the term unreal to encompasses this concept. 2 personal incidents come to mind resolving the principle.
Was injured 20 years ago, lost the use of my hands for about 6 months. During my rehab i caught an episode of Ghost in the Shell. It showed in detail how it was possible to fold a crane with one hand. Copying this for 2 years I became functionally ambidextrous.
In the same period i was employed in a drawing office of an engineering firm. Part of the learning involved using reference materials from Kyosuke Fujishima. He's best known as the creator of oh! My goddess. A former draughtman, his illustrations of real world mechnical parts and how it connects are near flawless. Was competent in full scale creating civil works and blueprints within 18 months.
Part of fiction and imaginative works involve following those with superior mastery. It truly is a gift of effort by a giants hand.

When I still believed in the existence of a god ... I learned that if I thought other people were in religious cults of fiction ... to be fair ... I would have to admit that I was also in a religious cult of fiction.
That admittance set me free of all religious fiction.
By those in religion, the word “occult” was at one time much sought after … as it meant … “Esoteric Supernatural belief … Intended for or likely to be understood by only a small number of people with a specialized knowledge or interest.
When so many devotees in divisive religions climbed on the bandwagons, bragging that their personal version of the occult was the one and only truth ... the word occult became shortened to the word cult as being a derogatory insult … used by most everybody in self-centered religious groups against each other.

Does this also include video games? I’ve noticed that my video game usage affects my dreams, and we know dreams are messages from nature about the unconscious. I’ve often been conflicted on my video game usage, is it a vice, is it a tool for self care, etc. I suppose the answer would be it depends on how I use it. But let’s assume I use it in healthy amounts, no more than 2 hours a day, and maintain healthy relationships and work life balance, what are the role that video games play? And as the video talks about, are they a hyper reality? Assuming the type of video game I am playing contains a narrative, such as Elden Ring, or other narrative driven games, as opposed to a run and gun shooter with little to no narrative, and only intense gameplay. I prefer to play games that delve into deep fantasy and narrative, s such as Skyrim, Fallout, the Dark Souls saga, etc. I wonder what role these games play in a person’s mental health. I’ve recently cut them out of my life, and I sometimes wonder if I did something unfair to my unconscious psyche. I was raised on video games, and yes, I have played the average unhealthy game in unhealthy ways, Call of Duty, Fortnite, copious amounts of Rocket League, etc, throughout my whole life. But I’ve also experienced some of the most rich and deep narrative experiences that no other book, movie, TV series, or honestly real life experience could ever touch, thinking of Mass Effect, Oblivion, Bloodborne, etc. Maybe I’m asking a question of fiction in general, and its place in self care. I think the reason I’m asking, is because I’m not the best reader, but man I am a much better gamer than a reader, as well as a movie watcher and tv show watcher. I just love the engagement that I experience in a video game. Just wondered what everyone’s thoughts were on this topic.

Yes. Fiction is usually derived from reality more often than imagination. And sometimes reality is stranger than fiction.
I mean it depends on how you defend real. Yes, fiction, such as the works of various Russian authors that Peterson oftentimes references, contains many metaphorical truths, but intuitively I wouldn’t say it’s more real than non-fiction.

What captures my imagination is the fact that truth is stranger than fiction, consider John 3:13

This truth demolishes job, the first book to be written of the Bible, per academics and known scholars, for the devil and sin are fictional characteristics to keep you from receiving the true kingdom of light and love that has now been active for over 2000 years , and yet here we are, and this truth along with many more are coming in the clouds of fiction writers!!

JBP is one hundred percent right when he says your subconscious can't tell the difference from fiction and fact. I've had two psychotic episodes both no sleep about four days in a row it's extreme everything you've ever watched every memory at your fingertips. Don't be fooled we definitely don't have free will. Every action causes ripples through society even body language but to act so seriously that you don't let yourself be foolish creates the worst energy.

Why is it so hard to say “these events probably never happened, but they describe transcendent truths”? We don’t need to play word games like this to engage in philosophy.
Well, and why should people need to conform to your expectations of what is precise communication? To me, there is great meaning in using language in the way that Peterson does, blurring the lines between fiction and real, because it helps to see the works he is analyzing in this biblical series as an actual window into some underlying structure of reality rather then just an interesting fiction. When he uses the words he uses what it conveys is "it probably didn't happen" is just not very important idea, and approaching the problem that way would not be the most productive way of doing it. I find this perspective to have been incredibly helpful in developing the ideas he does in these series.
@@OtaconF I understand what you’re saying, and I fully support the venture of taking a deep dive into ancient texts in search of enlightenment. And I’m not saying that Peterson should constantly interrupt his analyses with “this didn’t literally happen” disclaimers. But when people ask Peterson the basic question “did these events actually happen? Is this a reliable historical account?” and he can’t give a straight answer, then we’ve got a problem. People are absolutely justified in questioning Peterson’s motives and thinking him guilty of sophistry when he does that. Remember, a lot of Americans still believe Noah’s Ark actually happened, and their worldview and voting choices are going to be in line with that delusion.
Peterson is free to explore transcendent metaphysical substrates until the cows come home, but we’ve got to start with some basic, unambiguously communicated facts. My father had a saying: “don’t be so heavenly minded that you’re no earthly good.” Well, exhibit A.
@@jacobstamm I actually answered that having in mind he answering those type of questions. Had just come out of watching his podcast with cosmic skeptic, I don't know if you did but I would highly recommend it since they explore exactly that question of yours.
And I still need to understand more of the reason why both Alex and you seem so preoccupied on whether people believe the ark is actually real or not and how that connects with Jordan's style of answer. I don't know if the Ark was real or not. Let's say probably not literally (even though I really just have no idea at all). But if I say that, I believe it sounds a lot like you're just calling the bible a metaphor, a story. It's not real. Its very good! But it's a cool story at the end of the day. That type of answer does not communicate "transcendent reality", therefore would not be a precise answer to convey what he believes to be true. I don't have a problem with that.
Maybe you value understanding whether there was an actual ark more than the underlying meaning behind it. But does that make it wrong to see it the other way around? I don't think so. And his language reflects that.

Still an Atheist. Science is writing the book of life which we are compelled to do, since there is no written manual for a species made by abiogenesis extended by permutations and natural selection. We even have an objective origin of order. However the more complicated the design the less viable the end product. That in a nutshell is mankind's dilemma.
What we do know of ourselves is that we need a frontier _that ever fades, Ulysses_ to stay interested beyond ourselves. To master reality with new genius always bursting forth. Raising our kids to be the fullest version of themselves is the missing ingredient from any human narrative. Oops.
