Today we're talking about the difference between an energetic circle casting, a more Wiccan style circle casting and the Compass round found within traditional witchcraft. Hopefully, by the end of the video you will have a better understanding of each.
Do remember that these are simply my practices and make up such a small part of the whole of magickal practice, different people will carry things out differently.

Fun tip: If you have a tarot deck you can use the four ace cards to represent the cardinal directions. Ace of Pentacles (earth) = north; Ace of Swords (air) = east; Ace of Wands (fire) = south; Ace of Cups (water) = west.
Thats what I use in my Moon circle's elements but mine is set as a pentagram as the north point is Spirit, that Tarot card is The Sun.
When working with the elements in traditional witchcraft, it's also good to note that certain paths will have specific directions and colours, while others will leave it up to the individual.
Could I use a blue-green candle to represent the element of water ?

For me I have colored stones with the element symbol on top. I haven't done many circles except out of the solitaire wiccan book. I'm very new in my craft so I'm always looking for new ideas. I want to thank you for this video because I did get a bunch of information on casting circle that I'm excited to try. I'll try to keep you informed on the outcome 🙂
Do what feels right for you Anne, stones are old and very much a part of traditional practice, I might even use your idea.
Years and years ago I first started learning about witchcraft and magic the directions and the corresponding elements were given. The given directions and elements didn't vibe with me, so I changed them just how you were talking about & this is the first time I've happened across someone saying that it was right thing to do :D I've always felt better about it though. Just a nice little ^-^ moment.
My practice is Wiccan based. I learned in the early 90s, so I cast a circle. I don’t all the time, but for important spells and rituals I do.

I commonly use the wiccan circle casting. I am going to try the compass round as I had not known of it before this video. Thanks for the new technique and way to practice. As always you are a great teacher. Blessed be Hearth.
I have always used the LBRP when in need to use a very protective circle. With my deity's I now use a type of an energetic circle which I have marked out.
Me and my sister are in a coven together, and we did a circle spell, and it went wrong 😬 the room shook it was so bad! Love ur videos by the way!
Very Interesting! In my studies I've found a number of colors can be used for the directions. For the East/Air: Yellow, Orange and sometimes Lite Blue.. For South/Fire: Red and sometimes Orange.. For West/Water: Blue, Dark blue and sometimes Sea Green.. For North/Earth: Green, Dark Green, Black and sometimes Brown.. It depends on the level of energy to be used. And as for the Compass; that's my form of the "Square of Space" or The Tesseract!.. With the Six directions, sealed by the Devine hand. And a power source much like the item in the Marvel movies.

I use a simple/basic circle casting when I spell-cast. I always cast a traditional Wiccan circle when I perform any type of ritual. I have never cast a Compass round tho. Thank you for this video and your great explanations of each type

Interesting! I never cast circles. I'll cleanse the room with incense or Florida water before I do a work, I guess that would be similar, eh? I'm not a ceremonial person at all, and my practice is pretty simple.
What happens to the energy of a completed spell - after you unmake the circle? (Assuming you don’t want to push it into an object.)
* Does it stay in your aura?
* Do you send it out into the world, similar to a servitor?
It really depends on what the spell is for. If it is a personal spell for manifesting positive goals. Such as prosperity, confidence, etc, then you can keep the energy within your energy field. However if it it for removing something, or if you are working your magic on a place, or person separate from you, then I send my energy out into the universe to manifest where it is needed.

You might already know about this, but if not I'd like to point you toward the concept of thermal columns, which I learned about through naturalist Tristan Gooley's "The Secret World of Weather." I think -- if not, it's in "The Natural Navigator." I think he talks about it on YT as well. Or anywhere else, really, considering it's a weather phenomenon. From what you stated about compass rounds 15:55 and your love of nature in general I thought you might be interested. It could be a useful additional layer. Just a thought. Wow what otherworldly timing!😉 I literally just started reading The Crooked Path like yesterday! One of the reasons being that you mentioned the laying of the compass being covered in that book, and you've spoken about this book so often in your videos :-) I just had to get it! I'm only still at chapter 3. but I absolutely love how it's written😍 I've never layed the compass before but I really resonate with what I know about it so far and would definitely want to include it in my practice. Usually I like to cast some kind of a circle, also when I do an elaborate divination. I think my circle casting is a mixture of aspects from traditions and some of my own individual input that feel right to me to do so at a particular time. In addition to including the elements and corners, for instance, placing purifying and grounding crystals in a circle, also salt and even drawing a circle in the air around my space with an incense stick. I guess it depends.
So I would also like to take the opportunity to share a bit of my other Hearth-inspired purchases🙂: The Tarot of the Sorceress, that arrived today actually :) It's such an unusual deck, and a bit weird lol , but I like weird. I love the artwork, the combination of colors and the fact that the Ten of Water is symbolized by a flaming orb in the sky,! I think ;) this deck stimulates lateral thinking, really excited to work with it!🤩Another thing I just had to get is the Sigils, Ciphers and Scripts book. So practical and fascinating. Hearth my darling you just literally woke me up out of a brain block....witch block funk, that I've been in & stuck in for like 2months.
Real mundane world & general day-to-day life.... I've been so busy! And I've had a project with astral traveling that I've just not been able to medidate & shut off to get the connections on the other side done & accomplished.... Why have I not been laying a compass!!

Hi Hearth, Can I ask what elements you personally associate with each cardinal direction? I often see air and fire positioned interchangeably depending on who I'm talking to/literature I'm reading?
Because of my Wiccan background, I tend to use North- Earth, East - Air, South - Fire and Wast - Water. That being said in many forms of witchcraft, trad craft especially has so many variations I would say, use whatever feels right for you within any given spell or ritual ☺️

I'm wondering now,🤔 have you read or reviewed a book called 'Besom, Stang, and Sword' by Tara-love Macguire and Chris Orapello?💛🤍💜🖤 the book was published by weiser books in 2018(i think).
She has, and is in fact, one of her recommended books for beginners with the same rating she gave The Crooked Path. The only difference is that she made note that it's more American based. Which inevitably is going to resonate with people from the Americas more than anywhere else. However, as the author made note of, so too did Hearth that the system as presented in the book is extremely malleable and can be adjusted to any part of the world if need be.
I really enjoyed it, I especially recommend it for those wanting a more American style of traditional witchcraft as so many books specialise on counties in the uk.

as a chaos magician, i must ask would the creation of a servitor be easier to manifest in a compass round?
I was wondering do you keep track of all spells? And is there such thing as too much spells active at one period of time? Like I know with some sigils in chaos magick your meant to forget about them and let the universe do it's job but what about other spell work?
I tend to take note of my spells, even briefly so I can keep track of what I did when. Mostly I tend to try and forget the details unless I plan to repeat it.
Whether there can be too many spells, I think it depends on how you’re working them. If you’re working with deities, spirits, servitors, etc, it may be that too many spells in one go spreads the time of these spirits thin so you may not see them manifest as quickly or strongly or requesting aid too much becomes annoying. If you are keeping spells in the same space, that have opposing intentions, they may begin to interact with one another. Generally I would say it comes down to trail and error, I can comfortably have three separate spells running at once, more than that and I find it starts getting a little slow.
