11 years ago I walked into a random bar in downtown Tucson. Pegboy was playing on the jukebox. I was happily surprised and asked the bartender and bouncer "is this Pegboy?' free drinks commenced!!
this came out the year I was born.. just discovered it tonight. pretty incredible to think over 30 years later this ep is still reaching new listeners for the first time.. and I absolutely love this album
It really is incredible. I'm 18... Discovered Pegboy like 3 years ago searching a pop punk band called The Story So Far on Spotify, but there was another band with the same name, which had been featured on a compilation called "The World I Know - A Tribute To Pegboy" which was all covers of Pegboy songs by many different bands. I fucking LOVED that compilation. It's one of my favorite pieces of records of all time. All great punk with varying styles and sounds, but all with the base that Pegboy created. There isn't a single thing I hate about Pegboy's whole discography. Fuckin' A.
One of the bands I wished I could have seen back then. Heard "Strong Reaction" on my local college radio station around 1992-93, and then started playing them on my own show not long after. Still have that album in my vinyl stacks. A masterpiece of the form. Viva Pegboy!
Saw these fellows open for social distortion in Raleigh 91-ish. Had been unaware of them before the show. Strong reaction and this ep stayed on regular rotation for a long time. Great band, great memory.
a cherished vinyl lent to me in my youth in 89 or so by the copy guy at ibm yorktown where i was a summer intern, along with give me convenience. also got me to go to rockin rex which is amazingly still going. thanks dude wherever you are now bro 🍻
Saw these guys live twice. First show they opened for the didjits. Was never a didjits fan but pegboy was amazing. Second time they opened for Jesus lizard. I've never enjoyed Jesus lizards records but holy hell were they amazing live.
Saw them in a bar in Bowling Green, OH early 90s. Had never heard of them before that night...and they killed. Bought everything I could find by them and to this day put in the CDs for friends who eventually ask "Wow...who are these guys". One of the best punk bands ever IMHO.
+Norman Van Ness Did the same over the summer. A few of us were sitting around the fire cracking beers, and I decided to throw this on. One friend asked who this was. I said Pegboy and that the album was "of legal drinking age". I couldn't remember exactly how old it was (without googling, I'm saying 93, maybe 92), but I knew it was older than 94. Sounds as amazing now as it did 20+ years ago, if not more so. Edit: cheated and looked it up. 1990?!?
Dude I live in Bowling Green, OH! I found this band from a Steve Albini interview talking about bands finding fan bases through the internet. Weird how things lined up so well after seeing this comment haha
Brennon Holmes' post of a live Pegboy song got me to thinking about this excellent Chicago band. Three Chord Monte was their first record, a 12" e.p in 1990. With its gritty black and white cover, I bought it and have been a fan ever since. Saw them twice live here in NYC at CBGB's and they killed it twice. As a teenager I got hustled playing 3 card monte by the metro. It was soon after this 7 inch came out. Only reason I played. All I could do was laugh.

Loved it then - love it just as much now. I'm from Colorado but I grew up loving the Chicago punk sound.

They are amazing. Super heavy, but they have great hooks mixed with the stand out rhythm playing.
