- The Newfoundland dog is a large working animal known for their giant size, intelligence, tremendous strength and loyalty. These animals excel at water rescue because of their muscular build, thick double coat, webbed feet and innate swimming abilities. Many tales have been told of the courage these dogs display in lifesaving exploits. The Northern Newfoundland Club dogs are performing very well in this film record of them at Billing Aquadrome in Northampton, UK.

All dogs are great, but Newfies are truly unique. Extremely powerful, tireless in the water, and as calm and relaxed around the home as any dog. The first couple of years are kind of rough, but when you get beyond that, you have a truly gentle giant and a friend to all.
Kind of rough haha more like hold on not just to your dog but your sanity.

Adorable dogs..... strong, powerful swimmers whose rescue instincts are unmatched....yet cuddly as teddy bears.....gentle giants!

We had an extremely loveable Newfie for almost 8 years. We live in Tucson and heat is an issue. We kept a kiddie pool full all year for her to relax in. Took her to a community dog pool. She would not get in and if pushed in she sawm straight to the steps to get out. She was afraid of water.
