Highlander (1986) - Police interrogation scene

- An early scene of the original highlander movie.
Cops try to intimidate Connor MacLeod into confessing a crime he actually did commit.
However, he doesn't plan to take any kind of bullshit from them. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
“Why, Garfield? You cruising for a piece of ass?”
That might be one of the most savage rejoinders in film.

"Want to hear another theory? This Fasiel was so upset at the lousy wrestling tonight, that he went down to the garage... And in a fit of depression, cut off his own head."
Lambert's delivery of that line, with his accent, kills me every time.
Greg Gagne in any featured bout would upset a lot of people.
Must have been watching AEW. ZING!
"I don't know, tell me."
Classic cop trick.
I LOVE Connar's riposte: "Why, you cruising for a piece of ass?"
I like how he stares down the cop, as if he's feeling his weak mortal energy and letting him know he's in the room with a supernatural force.
MrKajithecat Kajit has wares if you have the coin
He (the cop) probably, on some instinctive level, knew something was wrong and tried to intimidate MacLeod/Nash as a way of deflecting his own rising tension.
@@Ragitsu ....or maybe,just got a hard-on on MacLeod....
@@Ragitsu That and cops do instinctively know killers. They can't prove it was him, but that doesn't mean that they don't feel that he may have at least killed one person. Then look back at Conner's life. He served in his Clan's army at 18, meaning he probably killed some enemy Clansmen between 15 and 17 before his immortality awakened. Then he grew up and travelled the world through not one, but two world wars and the smaller wars between. Be it soldier or civilian. So needless to say on top of the occasional immortal he's fought, he does have a body count.
@@Shanethefilmmaker Additionally, aside from some (feigned) confusion, MacLeod hardly behaves like most people do when brought in for questioning that pertains to a serious charge; he doesn't make any effort to appear nervous or otherwise troubled. In fact, he is in control and unabashedly confrontational with the junior officer. Either Connor is ignorant of the fundamentals of social interaction...or he just doesn't care (I lean towards the latter explanation).
Anyhow, I still prefer to think that most of the cop's instinct picked up on the fact that Connor is this inhuman being which has lived far beyond that which is natural. Unfortunately for him, this sense is only able to inform him in the faintest of whispers that "Something is _wrong_ here.".
P.S. When you say "killers", are you using the term in a neutral capacity or in a more nefarious/malevolent context? Connor has killed many men...as has The Kurgan, but it is clear that their personalities are *radically* different despite both having shed their fair share of blood.
This is terminator with swords
The scenes with Kurgan in his motel room are definitely Terminator-esque...you'll notice the same lo-fi synth drumming score from T1 is playing in the background.

Christopher Lambert is one of the best 80s actors! Such a legend.
Yes, he fit into the 80s like a hand and a glove fit together... But he couldn't get anything going post the 1980s like so many celebrities from that time period.
"No, we just ended. If you want more, charge me with something and I'll bring my lawyer."
Nullification!
man born in 1500 has heard every gay joke - so boring
I would think an immortal would have heard it all by that point. I`m still in my thirties and I have heard a lot and am unfazed by many things, so I could only imagine how it would be for someone who is over 400 years old.
I'd still rather have his gift than not regardless
It ain't easy. Many voluntarily opt for memory wipes.
Past and identity forgotten. New identity given. But because we don't age or die. Eventually confusion and questions arise. They have to be collected and brought back into the fOLD.
He was born in 1518.

Circa. Colorised.
One thing I've learned from Better call Saul is; this is what the cops call a fishing trip. Macleod didn't need be there and he was entitled to stay silent
Never EVER talk to the cops.
Get a lawyer.
And he doesn't fall for the detective's trying at getting him to incriminate himself.
"What's that?"
"A sword."
"What's his name?"
"I dunno, you tell me."
Also since the cop tried to assault a suspect it would seriously hinder the investigation and they would be sued for god knows how much.
@@jervissk8924 a sword?
You fought about the price and cut of his head. That line and the whole questioning scenes is one of the best.

The actor who plays the uniformed guy is also in Superman 3 as the guy on the oil ship that looks at the dials with a shocked look on his face whilst evil superman is spilling out the oil out into the sea.
Thanks, I was wondering where I had seen him before.
No wonder he's mad. Guy got duped by two superpowered immortals.
I love how they couldn't even pinch him on assault because the cop swung first and they'd have to get IAD involved. :P
Old school NYC lol😂
Help I'm drowning! Said mccloud. YOU CAN'T DROWN YOU FOOL, YOUR IMMORAL! said Ramirez. The best response in any movie ever.
That scene made no sense though, sure he might now drown but he still breathes and its been established that immortals can have scars and lose body parts so his lungs should be at least bad.
An IMMORAL IMMORTAL?
Could imagine how many times an immortal would have to change his morals to keep up with the ever changing moralities of society through time. As things do become more and more accepted over time. It takes some getting used to, let me tell you.
Oh and being underwater and resisting the urge to breath so you don't cough and choke with water in your lungs sucks. Can hold breath alot longer than mortals. But still pass out eventually. Just don't drown and die from it.
But hay waist of time telling you truths anyway. You ain't going to believe any of it.

@@gentarofourze”it’s established”. No it isn’t. The one example in film of lasting damage is when the Kurgans neck was sliced . Which beheading is specified as the reason to kill immortals
@@humvee2800I think by ‘established’ we’re talking about the expanded Highlander lore in general. For example in Highlander: The Series the immortal Xavier St Cloud has his hand cut off by Duncan Macleod and the limb does not grow back.
Wow, you instantly hate the uniformed guy. They hardly ever portray policemen like this nowadays.
haha, right, they now tend to portrait cops as competent and helpful.
no idea why ... :)
The character was a jerk. Cocky, Arrogant, Tough, Insultive. He's the type whom like to abuse and insult suspects and criminals.
He lost an intimidating stare contest to MacLeod.
The problem though is that they were right. He did kill Fasil. Sometimes cops know when someone has killed someone. That uniform guy was twitchy eyed at the beginning because, he didn't like the way Nash/Connor was starring at him. What pisses cops off the most is when they are right about someone and they don't have evidence to put them away. The only reason why we are on Connor's side is because he was arrested at random and he's one of the good guys, participating in things they wouldn't believe or understand.
No, what pisses cops off most if shattering their fragile egos and challenging their perceived absolute power.
Garfield never had the makings of a varsity athlete

Some Highlander fans talked about this on a podcast, but between this scene and the first season of Highlander: The series, you do have to wonder - what would happen if cops were to find about immortals? What would their reactions be like, and what would they do?
MMZERO9 - In later seasons of the Highlander series, they stopped writing scenes where the decapitated bodies are found by the cops because they took too much screen time away from each story.
You'd end up with pretty much the relationship between humans and mutants in the X-Men/Marvel Universe mythos.
It don't matter one little bit. Can tell them the truth right to their faces and they don't believe a word of it. Have done it more times than I can remember. It's laughable really. Saddening in a way as well. Humanity seems destined to live to their end under the veil of a lie.

They had something like that. Not sure if it was the main show or the spin-off, but a cop was chasing an Immortal Serial Killer. Despite all objections by said killer and even the other immortals, the man was able to track him down and kill him, by shooting a plate glass which chopped off the head. Because he wasn't killed by an immortal, his quickening dissipated. Before that, the cop didn't believe in any story about immortals or supernatural, but seeing a freak lightning storm indoors would change that.
If they'd had Frank Drebin as well Capt. Hocken they might have got somewhere.
lol yeah we would have seen some slap happy lines then...maybe a few cameos as well...good thinking,Simon.
If it was Colombo, he would have asked Nash one last question, just before leaving the office - something like "what blacksmith would you recommend me in Glassgow... in 1745?"
Frank would believe Connor's side of the story, even if it was sarcasm.
The cop is really smart. The motive of the Crime is really well thought
If they were interrogating Connor it would end up like in Terminator
When they were interrogating Reese, or when the Terminator killed most the cops in the station? I don’t see Connor doing the latter but I can see Kurgan doing it
Highlander is awesome. Plus my family has an exact replica of the sword used by Duncan Macleod in the series.
Funny, this video being so old *however* I did want to correct just one thing I see people commenting on about why Garfield is glaring at MacLeod when the scene opens. See, Garfield is the cop who makes the initial arrest when the New York arc starts. MacCleod is fleeing the garage in his sports car, immediately after killing Fasile. There is a very brief altercation where MacLeod resists "a bit" and gets thrown up against his car; Garfield ends the scene by pinning him down, guns all over the place, and whispering "Don't move, pal -- don't even breathe." So Garfield does have some reason to both suspect and be hostile towards MacLeod from the beginning. Then the fact that he's scared of him (and rightly so!) just makes him lose it during the confrontation. Luckily, MacLeod is too smart and just walks away. (The Kurgan could have had a much different response... :O) Cheers to everyone still enjoying this campy, cheesy, and really awesome movie!
Ah, the 1980’s 🤣🔥
More like the gestapo than the NYPD.
Thought they were pretty much same! Actually talked to a guy Medford, OR, who mentioned the"Gestapo mindset" a guy he knew, family, I think, had in Clackamas Co, Oregon. His statement made me think and stayed with me.

@@zipi8760 It's because he knows Connor did it. While he didn't express it the right way, Cops in the 80s have a knack for knowing they have a killer in their midst but no proof that they did it. He knows Connor did it, but he's mad because unless Connor confesses, he's got nothing. People always talk about how cops end up getting the wrong guy or are just fascists for killing random people in police beatings/shootings, but not one person on this Social Media ever stopped to think how a cop would react if someone was a genuine criminal, but they couldn't charge him.

Well you could only kill immortals by cutting their head off, kind of a superhero. :P
I am a big fan of comic books and Super Heroes and Super Hero movies and I always saw McCleod as being kind of a Super Hero(and there have been Highlander comic books, by the way but not that every comic book is about Super Heroes because not all comic books are about Super Heroes).
And comic book writer and artist, Rob Liefeld- who co-created Deadpool, even ripped off the concept of the Immortals with a race of immortal mutants called ''Externals'' while he was working on the comic book, X-Force for Marvel comics.
Invisible Fiddle bridge of spies is unquestionably the ugliest Spielberg movie I have ever seen. It's like it was color corrected on a dare.

I wonder was the cop an immortal.
I think the cop was a potential immortal that hadn’t died a violent death yet because the scene had Connor sensing him but not the other way around. The cop seems oblivious to immortals even though if he dies a violent death he could become one but it begs the question in the movie about any potential immortals not immortal yet in existence if there is a last one but the series means this cop potentially is immortal later one especially in a high risk career field for a violent death. Also more immortals may become immortal in times of war than in peacetime.
I heard Kurt Russell, Mel Gibson, Patrick swayze, Kevin Costner and Michael Douglas were considered for the role of Connor Macleod aka Highlander, and I also heard that Christopher Lambert, along with Kurt Russell, Patrick swayze, Kevin Costner and Michael Douglas were considered for the role of Martin Riggs in lethal weapon before Mel Gibson got it.
Mel would probably do it if Lambert said no, he was good at doing a Scottish accent along with his New York and Australian. He'd probably be able to find a way to mix the accents the same way Lambert did.
As a Scottish person, did he fuck. Lamberts at the least was entertaining.
Apparently, Lambert’s popularity around that time with Greystoke and Highlander had him get an audition as James Bond for The Living Daylights.

Really that cop seriously screw up by trying to punch a suspect. Even if they had some evidence against him, he could get a lawyer and sue the absolute shit out of them.
Nah, this was the mid-1980s, and surveillance cameras were rare. Circa 1990s and earlier, cops got away with police brutality all the time because there was little evidence against them. That's why the Rodney King beating in 1991 touched off the LA riots in 1992: people complained for years about police brutality and systemic racism, and finally there was video evidence of a mob of police as they beat the living $#!t out of a suspect, and the video evidence didn't mean a thing 'cause most of the officers weren't charged and the few that were charged were acquitted. The citizens responded by rioting at the wrongdoing of the jury, courts, lawyers, judge, police,...
