- Day 2 trekking the Huemul Circuit near El Chalten. In the Argentina Patagonia wilderness I had to cross the Tunel River on a cable. First time ever wearing a climbing harness and using a Tyrolean Traverse. Helped out by some very nice French hikers who checked my safety equipment. I became lost while hiking solo on Tunel Glacier and the moraine. Eventually found the trail leading up to Paso de Viento (windy pass). Amazing views of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. Descent down to a small lake for camping.
this might be the scariest hiking day I've seen in any of your hikes
doowop54 perhaps! 😉
😳😳 That traverse!! And then losing the way! Worst feeling, getting stuck and not knowing the way forward. But you made it! 👏👏👍😁
Jean I kept as calm as possible. 🙃
Hi Sara, hopefully you have completed the difficult bits and can enjoy the rest of the circuit. You rock!! I am so thankful that you are posting these now, I appreciate it more now that the world is social distancing.
Debbie Thank you!!! 🥰
Awesome video! Saw your message on FB and wanted to let you know that I have been following your channel for some time now. Keep it up! Cheers
Holy Moly. Queen Sara! That hanging traverse looked so scary. The ice field is looked amazing.
Trekcapri the ice field is the star of the trek!
WHOA!! This has to be one of your most challenging treks yet but you came out a champ again. The landscapes are breathtaking and seeing that immense glacier is epic.
🎈🎈🎈
You are brave to attempt this!👣👣👣🇨🇦
Danielle Cheers! 🇨🇦🙂
Well done, OMG felt afraid for you. Glad you made it with only minor scrape. Cheers
christine thank you! 🙏
Holy moly. Good job. A very interesting area to be in. Girl keep being safe. Your adventures are so awesome. I don't know what your regular life was all those years ago. You may never be able to re-adjust to regular life. I believe you could write some books. Keep trekking.
Gayle - my regular life was sitting at a desk in an office. Very boring compared to all this!
You are amazing! Awesome 👏
Thanks Dale!!!!!
Day 2 of this circuit is the most apprehensive for sure. You have such a high level of uncertainty advancing forward past the river (I forded it, though most people use the zipline), and then trying to find that colossal mountain pass trail. Most people would rather have a massive ascent but at least know they're on the trail, than have the terrifying feeling of being lost when turning back seems like a no-possibility. I remember an old maps.me trail had one go straight up the rockslope from the mid-point of the 1st glacier. That was so sketch. There's something about all the uncertainty that makes the view of the Ice Fields that much more mind-blowing, though. You feel so vulnerable on this day. And then, boom, you feel like immense joy, relief, excitement at the top--
You are very brave I would not have gone on that rope over a big drop glaciers not a chance I have so much respect for you . You crazy woman
Deana Awwwww thanks for the ‘crazy woman’ compliment 😝❤️
WOW! You are brave! Type two fun.
Maria Type two is correct 😅😅😅
Looked like fun, except for the river traverse on the cable. I would not have liked that. Even though I have used a harness occasionally, I would have definitely waited for other people before crossing. In my limited glacier and mountaineering experience, there are usually some landmarks that don't really change, and you pick the route of least resistance to pass on the left side of the "Heart" or to keep right of the "Thumb" or aim for the "Mushroom", etc. As you said, GPS tracks are worthless. I bet you look back on this day with fond memories though. It was beautiful and it was an accomplishment.
Michael very wise advice! 😃
Oh my goodness, my palms were sweating just watching this.
On the bright side, I guess having sweaty hands should help with dryness - they've both dried to a crackly crisp after washing them so much during the Covid19 plague.
But on the other hand...my heart rate... yowsa! Whatever you do, Sarah's Mom, don't watch this episode! 😱!!
elle 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂. Hahahah!!! Glad to have helped with your hands . 😘
You're a boss!!! Amazing!!!
WOW!! That does look scary!! Uh...I'd turn around...but you didn't!! You are quite an adventurer!!!
Allen thank ya!!!!🎈💕
Awesome job Sara! Super bold to solo the hike very impressive!
Quick question on the Tyrolean traverse, on the far side of the cable - is it hard to find footing to stand up and get unhooked and everything fairly safely? That’s the part I’m most worried about for the hike and most videos cut off right before you can see the footing on the far side 😂 I have some experience with harnesses and climbing but the over-water part does look unnerving!
The cable ends on a big uneven rock. I thought it was scary. 🤣
Being solo and unclipping with a backpack would be challenge. However, you can unclip one carabiner to the post on the other side off the cable before disembarking.
The second traverse is much easier!
Why didn't you ford the river near the lake crossing to the other side?
hi can you hike with alarm status?
Thank you for showing us some spectacular landscapes.
Hi Josram! No hiking is happening now. Luckily I was able to hike this last month before COVID19 cases came to Argentina.
Did you rent the harnas in El Chalten?
I wet my Pants , Did You ?
Shhhhhhhh 🤣
