One of the best albums EVER recorded. It's sublime. The music, performances and production are incredible. Everyone who says 'too many keyboards' should just listen to the bass lines and guitar solos on this record. Out of this world.
ZX7 -RR the effects used on the very new sounding synths were an atmospheric extravaganza. Ditto for the sounds Alex and Neil achieved. Clever use of reverbs propel the synths into large atmospheric soundscapes and some good sequenced synths that have a very musical rock feel. I was 16 and aware of rush, just got a new casio cz101 and played this album everyday, still one of my favorite albums by anyone. Very good album to learn a little rock theory on, much like Moving Pictures was for guitar.
I'll always count myself lucky that I happen to be one of those Rush fans that loves all the eras. Recently starting really getting in deep with this one and it is seriously unique. Love this record.
Absolutely me too! and listening to rush fan podcasts so many fans that hated that era finally see what Rush was doing and really embracing the music of that era!
2-year late reply, but as David Lythgoe said the Power Windows album did have Andy Richards playing additional keyboard parts. Geddy still did most of them though. Richards also played additional keyboards on Hold Your Fire. But live Geddy played all the keyboard parts.
There was something about the majesty of the melodies on PW and GUP. A LOT of the older folks didn't like those records, but..."Between the Wheels", "Marathon", and "The Manhattan Project" were absolutely ethereal and amazing.
Trippy how Rush was in their new wave/synth era and MTV keep using the OG pink logo from their incarnation stage. You'd think they'd use the newer sleeked GUP era logo. Cool how the logos were always representative of their current sound.
Haha. I still think of Grace Under Pressure as "New" Rush. I remember trying to believe that the Rush who did Grace Under Pressure was the same Rush that did All the Worlds a Stage. Great band. I started listening to them in 1977 and haven't missed a tour in over 30 years.
His voice was definitely changing back then, though. He couldn't sing the stuff from albums like 2112 like he used to. On the other hand, his voice actually got stronger in some ways. He was a better singer, but just didn't have the range to wail like a banshee any more.
Geddy was so right on the money in the first interview with regards to the hair bands that were fakin it and following all the clichés. The bands that transcend metal that he was describing ended up bein Metallica for Geddy. Geddy has always been a big fan of them cause of there realness and musicianship
I just can't believe it, THANKS for posting this wonderful material, I used to spend hours during my high school days watching the GOOD OLD MTV always expecting to see a Rush interview, specially during the Grace U. Press. and the Power Windows era which to me it was a very special era and a beautiful one as part of my youth, and I had never seen this ! Mark Goodman and the lovely Martha Quinn talking about my favourite band, 500 characters are not enough in order to desribe this beauty CHEERS!
The good old days, when the waiting list for a Wal bass was so short you could record with a borrowed bass, order your own and have it delivered in time to make the music video.
Power Windows is an absolute masterpiece, which founded a keyboard-based new genre of music, that was being baked from Signals album. Today, a huge number of bands, like russian masters The Gourishankar, are based exactly on this genre.
Second Rush show for me. Thursday Jan 9, 1986, Pensacola Civic Center w/ Steve Morse opening. Never forget at the start of the solo in CTTH, Alex broke a string, and literally threw his guitar like 10 feet toward stage right(where someone caught it) while another guy ran out with a new guitar. Never missed a note, if you blinked you would have missed it, how Neil and Geddy saw and knew just where to double back to the exact spot was just unbelievable.
Thanks for putting this together. Songs, videos, movies...they can all easily be found. But gems like these clips only exist on those old tapes we made back in the day. Makes for real everyday memories for those of us in our teens during the 80s. Thank you.
+Nigelxman They used to showcase actual music in there and the quality was significantly higher. Now they have million sub channels for different genres and they're pretty platant as a whole.
Y’all have known them as long as me, don’t yall think that they are something more than human?!! I still can’t get enough of them! A. J. C., III 21 Dec 23
Thanks sooooooooooo much!!! I received your message and came over to see an interview with Alex I've not seen for 30 odd years! It's really heart warming to see these slices of life, memories replayed that were thought lost. Brilliant! I cannot thank you enough.
Holy Mtv in it's infancy interview....brings back old memories. Power Windows tour was my first opportunity to see these guys live. Like all their shows since then, it was life changing.
These were MTVs golden years. I grew up on a steady diet of classic Rush stuff...in Adulthood i discovered Power windows...Presto...and Grace under Pressure ! WOW...those guys just kept Thrilling ME! Power windows was Awesome and fresh and different! Great drum work..synth stuff.. Very new wave sorta. Love it!😀
"I am Geddy Lee and I will like whatever power-chord I want." And Rush on their Power Windows Tour, sponsored by Campbell's Soup. When you're in a Rush, Campbell's Soup will get you there.
I remember Hugh syme doing the keyboards for 2112 but I'd always assumed that Geddy did all the keyboard work. And you're welcome. I'm a huge Rush fan and enjoy any good video of the band I can find.
@vinnykster Glad you liked it! I wish I had more old MTV stuff, too, Check out my channel for a bunch of other really rare Rush stuff. A lot of it is stuff from my old VHS tapes that I've never seen anywhere on the internet until I uploaded it. Enjoy!
First tour i saw, was gup, loved it, never missed a tour all the way to last tour, miss them already, this marks 5 years now, from here on it will be the longest time off for them
Thanks for this rare video. MuchMoreMusic channel 36 here in Canada did a 45 minute documentary on Rush and showed 1 or 2 clips from the live PW tour era, not the Halifax St.Johns report. I got it on VHS but don't have the know how to upload to youtube.
YES! So awesome to hear. Saw them during Time Machine Tour and damn glad I did (Moving Pictures requires no CZcams comment adulation it's such a perfect record) but now I'm even more stoked to be seeing them on this upcoming tour. So excited to hear they are digging in to such an awesome slice of the discography.
Anyone else with more stuff like this or even the ROCKLINE interviews .. please load them. This is way cool! I thought i'd seen just about everything with Rush. I love finding out that I'm wrong about that! Ty for uploading!
The POWER of the mullet! I've never seen this interview before. I was glued to MTV in these days and if you actually saw a Rush VIDEO back then, you were lucky! I kinda remember seeing "Big money" and "Mystic Rhythms" mostly?
They did do their homework. They're talking about on the album, not the tour. Several people have played on Rush albums other than Alex, Geddy, and Neil. Andy Richards played some additional keyboards on Power Windows and that's what they're referring to.
Totally. I don't want to piss off anybody so I won't give specific spoilers but for those other Rush fans who love Power Windows and the 80s era in general you're just going to be in awe of the new setlist. If someone had told me before tonight (the opening show) I just wouldn't have believed it. Seriously, there's no way to over-emphasize how much 80s stuff they played. That'll anger a lot of people but it's almost all 80s and the new album and very few tired standards which makes me happy!
"Power Windows" virtually predicted the coming of Microsoft and the whole Wall Street business thereafter. Even the cover art is startlingly premonitory. It captured the time, was ahead of its time, and it saw the future.
Nice upload. There is some live Power Windows tour footage there that was shot so it exists *somewhere*! I wonder if that was shot by MTV or some local news? That tour would be great to have a Pro-Shot concert found and released or even if they just shot a song or two, it would make a great bonus for an official Rush DVD/Blu-ray release such as the Time Machine Release later this year or next year after the upcoming concert filming.
I've been a Rush fanatic since Permanent Waves in 1980. I hated Power Windows when it came out in 1985 and skipped seeing them. Big mistake, it turned out to be one of my favorite Rush albums and I've seen every tour since Moving Pictures...except for the Power Windows tour.
Thanks again! I would have replaced all these videos with watermarks by now but I'm having trouble getting the full version of the software I need. It will be done, though, it bugs me as much as it bugs you guys. But at least for now it's here so people can see it. The watermarked stuff is all from ancient VHS tapes that I had to digitize and rip and edit, etc. Check out the 1987 Rush Hour doc on my channel among other things, I'll bet tons of Rush fans have never seen some of that stuff.
They always alternate between a more greatest hits tour, which was the previous one R30, and ones where they get to have fun and play stuff that they like, which is this tour. Always have a blast seeing them even if it isn't the radio hits, and hearing Grand Design almost 30 years after seeing my first Rush concert (power windows tour) was fantastically awesome.
@duder6666 I think you're right, music is for the most part completely disposable now. I think that's why bands don't last as long either. I guess I'm old but I just can't bring myself to buy mp3s for example. To me, enjoying the album art, reading the lyrics and credits (especially on Rush albums) and actually having to take care of something physically is/was all part of the experience that made it seem more valuable. Anyway, I hope everyone is enjoying all the Rush vids I put up.
Hey man! Geddy has earned the right to say whatever the heck he wants! He and Rush have severely paid their dues as artists! They are not only rock but heavy metal too as well as a number of other music genres! Metallica couldn't even hold their jock-strap! Rush stayed true to their musical vision; control over their sound without caving in to external pressures directing how they should sound. That is what they are revered by legions of fans who respect their creativity and artistry! Enoug
One of the best albums EVER recorded. It's sublime. The music, performances and production are incredible.
Everyone who says 'too many keyboards' should just listen to the bass lines and guitar solos on this record. Out of this world.
+Gavin ”M500” Z Well said.
+Gavin “M500” Z Agree 100% .... I love the production. Lifeson's solos on this album are sublime.
Very good album to learn a little rock theory on, much like Moving Pictures was for guitar.
honestly couldnt agree more, best album ever, my second favorite is Hold Your Fire
It's an epic soundscape that is almost symphonic. Love it!
Power Windows has always been my favorite Rush album. Every Rush album has its place, but Power Windows has such a big, richer sound.
And Hugh syme did his master work for that cover. I shouldn't say master work I've never seen his full catalog
It's their objective best.
Agreed, but only now am I starting to get It
Love it. Middletown Dreams is definitely one of my all time favorite Rush songs.
It's the one song I listen to regularly from that album.
Same!!!!
This!
The most criminally underrated album of all time !!!!
My personal favorite Rush album.
As of lately, mi personal favorite too.
Says who? You mentally ill "underrated" comment schmucks are so small minded and extremely simple.
PW sounded brighter and slightly less synth driven than GUP.
Wow! What a comment! Looks like you spend a lot of time alone in the dark, Junk Pump.@@AVB91
My God this guy is brilliant. To watch this now, so many years later - you really have to appreciate the phenomenal wisdom of RUSH!
Rest In Peace Neil Peart. 💔
Mystic Rhythms. Is my all time favorite Rush song, Saw them first time in 76 with Kiss and have not missed a tour since....
"They brought in a keyboard player". Yes, his name was Gary Weinrib. Great keyboardist, played a decent bass also. Sheesh.
They brought in a keyboard player. Andy Richards. He played on Hold Your Fire too.
Jack secret
Amy Geddy changes his legal name to Geddy years ago.
2-year late reply, but as David Lythgoe said the Power Windows album did have Andy Richards playing additional keyboard parts. Geddy still did most of them though. Richards also played additional keyboards on Hold Your Fire. But live Geddy played all the keyboard parts.
Ha
There was something about the majesty of the melodies on PW and GUP. A LOT of the older folks didn't like those records, but..."Between the Wheels", "Marathon", and "The Manhattan Project" were absolutely ethereal and amazing.
“We want to write songs that endure.” - GL
Rush mixed two ingredients of music styles together. Heavy Metal and Progressive Rock.
Awesome interviews. This is when the "M" in MTV still stood for "MUSIC" and not "moronic".
I agree so much! There should be an old school MTV channel showing all this great footage. I'd watch it all the time like I used to :-)
Trippy how Rush was in their new wave/synth era and MTV keep using the OG pink logo from their incarnation stage. You'd think they'd use the newer sleeked GUP era logo. Cool how the logos were always representative of their current sound.
every time the static popped up i was expecting the 2112 ending..."we have assumed control".
Haha. I still think of Grace Under Pressure as "New" Rush.
I remember trying to believe that the Rush who did Grace Under Pressure was the same Rush that did All the Worlds a Stage.
Great band. I started listening to them in 1977 and haven't missed a tour in over 30 years.
"'That doesn't suit Rush'. Those words have never been uttered." - Geddy
I like to listen to Hemispheres and then Hold your fire, and its just a trip. Talk about range and musical diversity.
Geddy says he is getting older, to me he looks so young.
He was about 32
His voice was definitely changing back then, though.
Uh. Geddy's hair kind of sucks!
Saw this tour at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, i will never forget it damn i was 23 years old lol. time moves fast 56 now.
Can we just take a minute and marvel at absolutely everyone's hair style in this collection of outtakes.
I just can't believe it, THANKS for posting this wonderful material, I used to spend hours during my high school days watching the GOOD OLD MTV always expecting to see a Rush interview, specially during the Grace U. Mark Goodman and the lovely Martha Quinn talking about my favourite band, 500 characters are not enough in order to desribe this beauty CHEERS!
Saw them on this tour and many others. I miss these guys
One of the best Rush albums in the catalogue!👍
I know Geddy loves his Fenders, but the Wal basses he had registered the best bass sounds of any albums.
Did he use a Fender on Moving Pictures?
Desmond Odom Yes, he used a fender jazz and his rickenbacker.
Jazz bass and Steinberger are my favorite sounds he used
The good old days, when the waiting list for a Wal bass was so short you could record with a borrowed bass, order your own and have it delivered in time to make the music video.

Back when MTV was MTV.
+Brendan McClelland What does that even mean?
Well when Mark, Alan, Martha, Nina, and JJ were VJs that's when MTV was at it's best.
+Brendan McClelland
Yeah, I had a crush on Martha Quinn.
+Nigelxman They used to showcase actual music in there and the quality was significantly higher. Now they have million sub channels for different genres and they're pretty platant as a whole.
+Andrew Boehmer Who didn't???
Thanks for the trip down memory lane, that was awesome who ever put this together
Damn...never noticed how close Geddy's eyes are together.
- Eye width
close |.l..................................| wide
Even if MTV is still TV in this era, I wish shows like this were still a thing.
Power Windows is beyond underrated. There isn't a bad song on this album, and their talent shines.
One of the best RUSH tours ever! I saw them twice on this tour Dallas, TX and then3 months later in Oklahoma City!
Cool seeing old MTV footage of RUSH! Love it
Hey! I saw them at the Civic Center in Pensacola, FL that tour! Acoustics were awful. Sat in the nose bleed section. Still, a night to remember.
I still remember at my teens founding Power Windows at the supermarket and asking my father to buy it.
Always been my favorite album by them. From beginning to end perfection
A Great Album Power Windows ...
Y’all have known them as long as me, don’t yall think that they are something more than human?!! I still can’t get enough of them! A. J. C., III 21 Dec 23
This is a nice time capsule of a band that was at its peak. Great stuff!
That sure takes me back. When MTV actually played music. VJ's Mark Goodman and Martha Quinn were a staple of those times.
Thanks sooooooooooo much!!!
I received your message and came over to see an interview with Alex I've not seen for 30 odd years!
It's really heart warming to see these slices of life, memories replayed that were thought lost.
Brilliant!
I cannot thank you enough.
My favorite Rush album musically and lyrically. ❤🎸
All hearing any of this does is makes me want to listen to The Fountain of Lamneth or Xanadu 🎵💕🎵💕
Sorry, it's both Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows era. So, 1984 to 1986.
Love it!😀
Signals, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire and Grace Under Pressure = awesome synth albums
"I am Geddy Lee and I will like whatever power-chord I want." And Rush on their Power Windows Tour, sponsored by Campbell's Soup. When you're in a Rush, Campbell's Soup will get you there.
absolutely brilliant...thank you for bringing it to the masses
Power Windows was the epitome of the 80's sound.
I remember Hugh syme doing the keyboards for 2112 but I'd always assumed that Geddy did all the keyboard work. And you're welcome. I'm a huge Rush fan and enjoy any good video of the band I can find.

Glad you liked it! I wish there was more of this kind of stuff from the 80s.
The eyebrows and hair are wild on Geddy in this video. I just got turned onto this album, liking it a lot.
Wow. Thank God people recorded random stuff on MTV.
This was the 1st tour I saw them on when I was 18.
Got all the VJs on here!
First tour i saw, was gup, loved it, never missed a tour all the way to last tour, miss them already, this marks 5 years now, from here on it will be the longest time off for them
Thanks for this rare video. MuchMoreMusic channel 36 here in Canada did a 45 minute documentary on Rush and showed 1 or 2 clips from the live PW tour era, not the Halifax St.Johns report.

floppy disks... I remember those things...Oh shit I feel old.
yea amazing to hear force ten analog kid body electric
& half of the power windows album
i was in tears when they played manhattan project
The middle of middletown dreams is the best.
Incredible record..
Rush are just the best, in all eras
Power Windows is a great album and all component parts as good as always
Brilliant
Keep it 2️⃣1️⃣1️⃣2️⃣
Thank you. These are great!
Anyone else with more stuff like this or even the ROCKLINE interviews .. please load them. This is way cool! I thought i'd seen just about everything with Rush. I love finding out that I'm wrong about that! Ty for uploading!

I have that album, and loved it, it's like rock'n'roll music from a heaven of paradise (lol). :D
Very, very underrated album. The height of musicianship.
The 80's albums are some of my faves.
This is flipp'n 30 years ago, and was a big part of my life back then
Awesome!!!... thanks for posting :)
I was never a big grunge fan, but I'm grateful to those guys for KILLING 80's fashion.
I've never seen these, thanks for that!!!
Great post. Thanks.
Geddy played the keyboards on the record too... Not just live
my favorite Geddy hairstyle, the prog mullet!
Geddy is ready to roll down those power windows in his Jaguar, and let that mud flap mullet flap in the BEEEZE!!! Hell yeah
GREAT upload. Thank you!
I loved 80 s rush- all of it !!!
Totally. I don't want to piss off anybody so I won't give specific spoilers but for those other Rush fans who love Power Windows and the 80s era in general you're just going to be in awe of the new setlist. The blended interludes by Geddy and Alex are the best part of this album aside from Peart's percussion outside the guilded cage.
"Power Windows" virtually predicted the coming of Microsoft and the whole Wall Street business thereafter. Even the cover art is startlingly premonitory. It captured the time, was ahead of its time, and it saw the future.
@xxxx15us Album art... credits... lyrics... I couldn't agree more. Downloading songs/albums is simply soulless.
Geddy was just a puppy.
Even MTV mispronounced Peart. Trutg be told I did too back then. Power Windows is a masterpiece ino
what an album, maybe my fav very original sound. late 70s and 80s Rush IMO best
Nice upload. There is some live Power Windows tour footage there that was shot so it exists *somewhere*! I wonder if that was shot by MTV or some local news? The many stages of Rush....
I remember watching this back in 8th grade and thinking, this band is great.
people who are commenting on the quality of this upload .. go find something useful to do with your time .. thanks for posting this !!!
The secret to re-creating the Power Windows studio sound live? The use of floppy disks.
Thanks again! I would have replaced all these videos with watermarks by now but I'm having trouble getting the full version of the software I need. It will be done, though, it bugs me as much as it bugs you guys. But at least for now it's here so people can see it. What an intelligent band!
I remember some of these clips. I was 19. Back then the only way we found out about a new album was the local radio DJ or yup, MTV
My favorite Rush album and era. It's hard for me to listen to this album without being very
nostalgic for the 80's.
Same
It was pure 80's cold war era
