Trisha's right. Ethan's wrong. Quentin Tarantino counts Kill Bill 1 & 2 as one project, though technically two movies. Death Proof exceeds the cutoff (40 min) to be a feature length film, even if its attatched to another film.

Why does it matter if quentin personally considers them one project. Kill bill 1 and 2 are two different feature length films, just as lord of the rings 1 2 and 3 are three different feature length films...
So 10 then, yes kill bill was one story, he said 10 movies. Technically he has already directed 10 then. See, Yes he counts it’s as one project but 2 films. Death proof isn’t a film he directed with himself in a project of his own. So the grind house project wasn’t his therefore that film isn’t counted into the 10 he wants to direct as his own for his own. 9films 1 to go.

Everyone in the Death Proof rant makes me so mad. Ethan and Trisha were right because Tarantino considers Kill Bill one movie, but Death Proof is a full length movie that was also part of a double feature.
To clarify the Tarantino discussion:
Tarantino has directed 9 films as of today. Death Proof counts as one. And Kill Bill Vol. 1& 2 count as one film together.
If you really wanted to, you could make a case for a 10th film which would be "My Best Friend's Birthday" - his very first short film which he directed in 1987.
Also in the once upon a time in Hollywood trailer it says the “ninth film from Quentin Tarentino”
Can you count Four Rooms and Sin City also?

Dan, technically death Proof is a movie he collaborated with Robert Rodriguez. But it was a movie he made for fun with Gridhouse. You are right technically it is a movie but it is not a solo/serious production made only by Tarantino. It was more of a fun project he collaborated in, not a movie he considered part of his cinematic saga.
It's a feature length movie he directed on his own. It's as simple as that.
The two "main" films of the grindhouse doublefeature are deathproof and planet terror. Those are both full length movies. Rodriguez directed PT on his own and Tarantino directed deathproof on his own. It is definitely 10.
