  • Just happened upon this fix for now. Hopefully won't have to do too many times before I lose my patience. but for now seems to be working out well. Definitely not a perfect fix or work for everyone, but thought I'd share personal success in hopes that you'd at least add this to your troubleshooting protocol. Good luck everybody! Hope you have a blessed day!

Thank you for posting this! I was at a doctor's appointment when this happened and my mechanic was closed. Luckily I quickly found your video, went right to the auto store and problem solved!

What did you buy at the auto parts store? It happened to me. I found this video. I pushed in the lever and let it go and it snapped back out. It’s been happening to me almost daily. It would be nice to know the part that you bought.

That's hilarious how you found the solution! This happened to my wife and so I discovered that you can remove one of the fuses and reset everything. And then about 6 months later it started happening more frequently.... Now it's just not practical for the quick fix so I plan to shoot some garage door grease down the chute!
    Appreciate you sharing this!

It's the dang microswitch that the shifter has to bump to engage when in park. I occasionally got it to work by flicking the shifter button when in park. I greased the shaft under the shift knob, even took apart the dash to bend the microswitch arm just a hair with some thin needle-nose pliers. But eventually it became a two or three minute game every time. I got tired of this game and just yoinked off the microswitch from under the shift arm, cut off a couple zip ties so I'd have more slack on the little black/blue wires and threaded the switch out through the ignition cover. Now I can manually press the switch when I'm done driving and it releases the fob 100% every time! It looks dumb, but it works every time without a fight!!

This saved me from a panic attack this morning. I have some ptfe grease I use for my 3d printer but it’s pretty thick so I am gonna have to run out and get some spray stuff. Leaving the Allen wrench in the van for now

Had this problem several times yesterday, and a couple times before. I was frustrated and kept pushing the shifter forwards and back... then about to scream when the shifter got STUCK IN PARK and wouldn't budge. Finally loosened up and i was able to get it working okay and get the key out. I'll try that fix today and let you know how it works in a few days.

@@thedude8520 yes I forgot to add my solution which was simply to put some oil between the plastic and the gear shift it took a good while to get the oil to where it needed to be but I heard others talk about using grease and that just didn't seem to make sense because it would take too long to get where it needed to go
