- Tommy Roe, born Thomas David Roe, 9 May 1942, Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Roe was raised in Atlanta where he attended Brown High School. Influenced by the sounds of the late Buddy Holly, Roe developed a unique style that, combined with his all-American clean-cut image, made him a popular musical performer throughout the 1960s. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Roe

I am Sheila, I have blue eyes, and while listening to this song tonight, my hair is up in a pony tail.
Wonderful tribute to Buddy Holly. Notable that Buddy had so many acolytes - Bobby Vee, Tommy Roe, so many others.
What can I say old music will never die!! Candy for my ears.
I found a really cool version of this song that's really underrated. Check it out

Indeed! :)
Finally found the ORIGINAL version! You can obviously hear the Buddy Holly influence. Beautiful.
Love how he changes the tone of his voice on the 2nd verse. Never a shortage of fun drumming too.
As my name is Sheila I am proud and happy to have my very own song sung by a wonderful guy. Tommy Roe was great!
What kinda ride made u feel funny inside
This was one of my favorite songs as a kid but I haven't heard it in over 50 years.
Im 60 my .name is sheila blue eyes and a pony tail
Tommy Roe was a HUGE Buddy Holly fan, Tommy wrote Sheila when he was only 14, cool tune!
Clearly!
Why is your name Rattlesnake Ralph? I found a black snake in my hallway the other morning, freaked me out! my Dad said never kill a Black Snake, they kill mice! Haven't seen a mouse since!
Everyone who loves real rock and roll is a Buddy Holly fan. He even inspired his most famous fan to change the name of his group from The Quarrymen....to The Beatles (in honor of Buddy Holly & The Crickets)
Rhonda Boncutter LOL! Rattlesnake Ralph was a nickname given to me by Lonnie Mack when I was 18. He said my right hand (picking hand) was as fast as a Rattlesnake’s tail.😊
@@rattlesnakeralph8594 Lonnie Mack...WOW !!!...great guitar, we'll always remember him !!!
Best Buddy Holly homage ever.
On this day in 1962 {July 22nd} "Sheila" by Tommy Roe entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #73; and on August 26th, 1962 it peaked at #1 {for 2 weeks} and spent 14 weeks on the Top 100 {and for 6 of those 14 weeks it was on the Top 10}...
And on September 22nd, 1962 it also reached #1 {for 3 weeks} in Australia...
Between 1962 and 1973 he had twenty-two Top 100 records; six made the Top 10 with two reaching #1, his other #1 record was "Dizzy" for 4 weeks in 1969...
Mr. Roe celebrated his 72nd birthday two months ago on May 9th, 2014...
For many years, I thought it was Buddy Holly singing this song whenever I would hear it. I was shocked when I finally found out it was Tommy Roe!
One of my favorite songs of the time.
Now this is music, gotta love the oldies.
Absolutely beautiful song.
Genuine Classic 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The genius of this song is that it sounds like Buddy Holly easily could have written if you didn't know better. In my opinion, to this day, this is the best Buddy Holly song Buddy never wrote. Roe's performance is the icing. I MISS ALL the music Buddy Holly never had a chance to write through all these years. I was a 15 year old fan when he left us in 59'.
I met Tommy Roe in Clovis New Mexico once and he was one of the nicest people I have ever met. Real down to earth and loves his fans. I love his music.
Tommy did great a great Buddy Holly soundalike on his first album. Pittle De Pat and Hey Look At Me were 2 he used as album cuts. One was a Holly song. He branched out on his second album with his own sound but his first album is my favorite. Bobby Vee is another. His Rubber Ball would have made a great Holly song. It was written by Gene Pitney.
yes, those were the days. I like to think about it. they were wonderful.🥰
Love you Tommy Roe ~ You cranked out some good music in your day !!
"Shelia", "Sweet Pea", Hooray For Hazel", "Dizzy"...
Take me back to the early 60’s
Wow this song sure brings back memories. I met this beautiful girl in upstate NY in the summer of 1962. Her name was Sheila. She lived in Hawthorne NY which is in Westchester county. To this day, every now and then, shes pops into my head. I guess its true what they say about first love
Brilliant,a genius, sweet, great looking guy who does not seem a bit conceited like a lot of singers get once they hit fame.
Could play this all day long!!!
Love the drummin" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic record I agree with you Rosebuddy47 could play this over and over again
I met him once about 30 yrs. ago, got an autograph, it was so cool!!
I bought this record when I was a kid in '62. It was a great year for hits like this one, Sealed With A Kiss, Johnny Angel, Teen Age Idol, Where Have All The Flowers Gone, and many others. Thanks for the upload.
I've got Sealed with a Kiss up next on my playlist: czcams.com/video/G7ZiFslK_P8/video.html
Thank you for the pleasure of hearing this song again, always loved it.
Hello from Berlin, Germany, havent heard nor seen this one for ages, It is so fine💋😍👍
I couldn’t read music with dyslexia but I learned to play guitar by sound being an ASPIE has been an adventure
Sheila, The Folk Singer and Dizzy, three classics by a great artist!
One of the biggest selling singles of 1962 as it had topped The billboard singles chart for 3 weeks
When I visited my grandmother in Bridgeport Connecticut in August of 1962, I was awaken over and over again by loud car radios playing this song. I did not mind a bit. Signed a fan in San Antonio Texas.
One of my all time faves. Love the drum, the guitar, the voice, the production, the sentiment of the whole song. I'd call it the perfect oldie, but it's more transcendent than that for me.
Love this song! Great memories!
I wish I grew up in this time, like I was in my teen years.. I was born in the 60s.. I love 50- 60 music!
Me too! Born in 65 but wish it was more like 55!
Was the best of times! :)
I've often said the same myself. I was born in 1960, but wish I was born in the mid-fifties.
the nice thing about being adopted from an orphanage is that you can be any age in a given range.. i get to say i was born.. anywhere from the 1965 to 1967.. the nuns wrote down 69 so that i would get adopted easier. I was blessed with great parents who loved all this music along side classical . funny how music sends you back. all good thoughts and feelings
Just recently saw him perform in So Cal.. Still sounds great. Talked to him for a bit afterwards.... very nice.
Such a tribute to the Greatest Rock Singer we ever had the late Great Buddy Holly went far to soon 🙏😪🇺🇲
Thumbs up if you ever dated a Sheila. Mine was a petite dark haired dark eyed bombshell. What a doll.
My first niece born in London, England never saw her but I dream of what she is like in Heaven. Her earthly parents joined her in Heaven this past year. I love the beat of this song. I have to be in a heightened mood to listen as Shelia is reserved in my heart for the time we meet.
Just watched a 2014 interview of him where he said he wrote this at the age of 14 and it was originally named "Sweet Little Freida," but at the advice of a music executive, he changed the name to Sheila. But making a smash hit that has stuck for decades out of something you wrote as a hobby at 14 -- wow, that's amazing!
Burning bridges
I was only a little girl when this came out, and I used to blush. I was convinced he was singing about me !
It was ... :)
He was ! x
He was surely not. He sang about a Sheila, not about a Stevie.
Bert the Bird I am Sheila! Just all myself Stevie for CZcams....so yes, he was singing about me ;)
I did too! Hah a crush on him when I was little. Still have his album!
WOOOW! This song very nice & famous! Sweet memories, good Times! My💖 skipped! Congrats Tommy Roe! 😍💙😃💓🥰🎧🎶🎙️🎸🥁🎶🎧💓💎😃👌👍✌️👏

He is a great artist,,Love his songs!...Thank You!
60s, 70s an will always be the best!
In 1961 this song could send into orbit
Buddy Holly's career only lasted 18 months. His influence, has been around for generations. Tommy Roe,Bobby Fuller(RIP),The Beatles..All owe Buddy Holly a huge prop. Fast forward to today. Elvis Costello,Marshall Crenshaw,&Radney Foster were all inspired by Buddy Holly. He will always rave on.
60s, 70s and 80s will always be the best!
sent this song to my beautiful lady, she loved it, and yes her name is sheila

As an 17 year old student at College at Walthamstow London, I had tickets to see Tommy Roe, Chris Montez and the Beatles on 9 March 1963 at the Granada East Ham. My girlfriend and I attended a great concert which stayed in my heart being a great fan of all three, ln December1988 flying on Concorde from London to Barbados my Norwegian wife and l sat by Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach, who, like ourselves were going to Mustique. We were to stay with our friend Basil Charles the owner of Basils Bar Mustique as on 7 January 1989 we had exclusively booked a celebration of my wife's 40th birthday party attended Ringo, Barbara and Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall. Mick and l shared an architect who designed both our villas
one of my first songs on the radio while driving with my older friend
That was really nice......Three honey's enjoying themselves, lovely!
Love this song.
60s to 2020 cant believe im still here.
Sheila By Tommy Roe is my favourite song and the way he sings all his own album.
I liked this fella 30 years before I was born.
Tommy Roe was my favorite in 68/69 when I was 9 and 10 years old. I could listen to him 24/7 back then.
Well of course. I love it ❤
This is a cool song makes all who are named Sheila feel happy-go-lucky🥰🥰🥰
The sound is AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE,THANK U
This is what it should sound like.
double happy! love it!
Brings back great memories.
Thank You.
I have always liked this song. As so many others have said, it has Buddy Holly written all over it.
One of my all time favorite singers!
no doubt one of the all time best,
Grew up listening to this song. Just learned TODAY that this is NOT a Buddy Holly song.
Even after learning that Tommy Roe wrote it and watching him sing it, my mind still sees Buddy Holly performing it.
THAT is how good a Buddy Holly tribute it is.
WHAOU FANTASTIC
I learnt something today. I am exactly the same age as Tommy (Paul Mcartney is 6 weeks younger). I saw Tommy in London in1963. A bit too early for him to tour the UK. The only hits he had over here at the time were this and "The Folk singer." He didn't have another until 6 years later with "Dizzy."
GREAT GREAT BUBBLE GUM MUSIC ......... LOVE THIS STUFF ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Happy 80th birthday Tommy Roe!!!
I love all Tommy Roe. He's excellent!

The very first record I ever bought! In the late 60's
The first 45 I ever bought back when I was a youngin'!
great singer and songs
I thought this was a Buddy Holly song until I heard it on Sirius 60's Gold.
They said the music died on 2 Feb. 1959. Tommy Roe revived it.
