  • This is Part 1 of the Hossfeld type bender build. In this video I build the fixed and swinging frames.
    Special thanks to Mark Presling for providing information on the bender that he built. He has a great channel on engineering, machining and metal casting. You can get more info at this link.

    You're doing a wonderful job of building the hosfeld bender! I've used these benders since 1982 in the steel fabrication industry. They are extremely handy for many bending operations. I've made many handrails for spiral stairways in them. Keep up the good work!

      Thanks for your comments. They are very versatile. Hossfeld have put out some videos on bending various types of metal.

    Have a original #1 purchased at an auction years ago, it's definitely in the top 10 list of best tools I've acquired. Thanks for the video!

      Thanks for watching Brian. Unfortunately New Zealand is small, and it is in its own corner of the world. Such opportunities don't exist here. I have searched for Hossfeld benders in NZ and I cant find any so I had to resort to building one. But, so far it has been a fun project.

    Hi from Canada. Really great work and inginuity and very inspiring. I have a ChiCom bender, which is a poor scaled down copy of the Hossfeld, so one like yours would be a major step up.

    Nice job on the bender. I’m starting one shortly and the “cut & bend method” is a great idea to use. Thanks, good info.

    I just built the hydraulic system for mine works Awesome! I also built the L Shape Swing arm. I know there’s prints on how to build the Bender but the hole distance out there and not the same. I had to rebuild mine again. Very important to have right hole pattern distance. Or the Hossfeld Dies don’t work. I have all the tool room dies. Bunch of Tube Dies. Flat-bar and angle iron etc.. lucked out on the basic bender with dies locally. I used the bender to make all my bend for Swing Arm and Hydraulic Attachments.

      Thanks for your comments. I have seen some videos with the hydraulic bender. That makes bending heavy material so easy. From what I have heard, the dies are very expensive, even for 2nd hand dies. Basically there is no chance of getting them in New Zealand where I live so I will need to make them as I need them. Did you get your dies cheap?

    • @richcan22
      @richcan22 Před rokem

      No I bought from Hossfeld directly. If you have a lathe you can spin one off and for the drag blocks there’s a bunch of ways to make. Which soon I’ll be making my own. Every die is specific for radius needing to bend. Ya can cost a lot every time needing a nee radius bend. I made a really cool L Shape Swing Arm for 180 degree bends. Also the hydraulic attachment. I went over kill and made it heavy duty. CNC plasma on the swing arm. Guy cut for $80 that was his hr rate. Best use original swing arm as template and use alignment punch set. The main frame made of 2” X1/2” flatbar. I did all my bends using the block set and used the main pivot pin to make the bends. I’ve wrapped around the pin 1/2” X 2” flatbar right around to make the U Straps for hydraulic unit. I’m using. Basic 14” hydraulic cylinder maximum 3000 psi and have set for 1500psi and just bent yesterday 2” OD 180 degrees with no problem.

      @@richcan22 Sounds like a good setup if you can bend those sizes so easily.

    Now got to find some metric plans?

    • @thehobbymachinistnz
      @thehobbymachinistnz  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for watching. I may draw up some plans based on how I have build this bender. My bender will have some small changes from the plans that I have. But, that wont be until it is finished though. The plans on the internet are good, you just have to sit there and go through all of the measurements and convert them.

    Very nicely done. Thank you for the time and effort to make and post this video. I'm itching to have one but not keen on dropping over $1k for the "basic" bender or the $1k7 for the basic bender plus some accessories. I've got the blueprints but I'm in the middle of moving shop buildings from one property to another so all I can do is watch bender porn. ;)

    I made a bulldozer die for this machine on my youtube channel let me know if you need any dimentions.....I use the hossfeld all the time awesome machine

    • @thehobbymachinistnz
      @thehobbymachinistnz  Před 2 lety

      Hi, I watched your video on the bulldozer die a few times today and I have to say "that is a fine piece of work", well done! I have got the bulldozer die on the list of tooling to make for my bender so yes, I would be interested in the dimensions if that is ok. I have been on the look out for a while for some rail track to build a anvil, but it is hard to fine where I live. I see it in other cities but it would be too much to ship it. Some will come available sooner or later and it looks like it would be great for the die.
      Did you build your bender or is it original?

    • @westweld
      @westweld Před 2 lety

      @@thehobbymachinistnz the bender is original I got it used for a really good deal. But the tooling is extremely expensive if I buy it even though its made here. The Railroad was a cheap option for me for tough steel but you could just make the part thats doing the bending hardened and weld the rest with mild steel.
