    Hi David. Please explain what the advantages are of a higher rib. For example, allows you to see the clay better as it rises in Trap. But what about for sporting? Why better than low rib? Why worse than low rib? Etc. Related, what makes this gun a hybrid between sporting and trap? Non-adjustable butt?

  • @rolandkee335
    @rolandkee335 Před rokem +2

    725 Trap (high rib, of course) owner here, and I’ll take a fixed high rib over an adjustable. I’ve owned adjustable rib guns (Browning and others) and it just doesn’t feel sturdy to me. I’m careful about how I pick my guns up and find myself having to ‘manoeuvre around’ the adjustable rib, when holding and shouldering the gun. And, no matter how it’s adjusted/tightened, the adjustable rib always makes the gun sound like it’s rattling when closing the action.

    One of the biggest advantages of the adjustable rib is changing the POI. I’m considering buying one to shoot sporting, skeet AND trap, so being able to a just the POI is essential

  • @charlessmith4242
    @charlessmith4242 Před rokem

    * It's nice to have the ability to make adjustments to one's firearm, it's cheaper than having a custom stock made to fit only you. Concerning the advantage of a high rib, and what it offers the shooter is interesting. Most shooters these days like a high comb, they shoot their shotguns like one would shoot a rifle, they really lock into the stock. Slapping a higher rib on a shooter's gun will raise his head so he can still obtain his normal sight picture. A raised rib actually lowers the comb. Now , the shooter has to raise the comb to gain back his original sight picture. The advantage of a higher comb is that the shooter can see the target a little better in reference to the end of the barrel. While it's true that a shooter should only concentrate on the target, the image that a shooter sees will most likely include part of the end of the barrel (particularly if your eye is positioned over the rib). When shooting, the shooter doesn't notice the end of their gun's barrel, but this will become apparent when they switch guns, especially, if they go from shooting, let's say a 12 ga. to a .410, the .410 will appear to require a little more lead than the 12ga., when in fact the leads are the same. This is because the peripheral vision notes the difference in size between the 12ga. barrel vs. the barrel of the .410. The shooter's sight picture looks different. A lot of shooters have trouble adjusting to the small diameter of the .410 until they have shot enough .410's to obtain the correct sight picture. A high rib can cause some of the same effect, but it's much easier to adjust, if you can still see the end of the barrel.
    I shoot with only one eye, so my sight picture is more limited. The most important aspect is does the stock fit the shooter, and does the shooter use the correct eye when he shoots? I believe a shooter that shoots guns that gives him the same sight picture is a head of the game. Consistency matters, but shooting the .410 sure is fun.

    Not a fan of high rib guns, as they don't shoot my shooting style, david mounts the guns very very low in shoulder so he needs a high stock/rib, which is something that needs to be focused on- he always says x gun is low in comb, when it's more how he mounts the gun

    I disagree, the stock and barrel weights are to adjust the balance to your own personal taste.
    Some like it forward some rearward. It depends on your shooting style.
    My own preference is for weight up front to slow gun movement down. Works for me.
    Others like a stock heavy gun, works fir them. That's why there are additional balance weights.

      @@tonymorgan3526 * If one eye is the most dominant ( sometimes a person's eyes are co-- equal in strength ), matching that eye with the corresponding shoulder would be the best option. If you're right eye dominant and are left handed you can learn to shoot using your left eye only by closing your right eye when shooting, or by blocking the right lens of your shooting glasses. In your case, it seems that you are comfortable using your right side, so stick with using that side. Your situation seems like an easy fix, and you have done that.
      If both of a person's eyes are of equal strength, shoot off whichever shoulder feels more natural, only just learn to use the one eye that corresponds to shoulder your using.
