In this video, my LS Powered Caprice PPV Police car developed a very strange engine noise. It ended up being 2 very strange issues, one of which you guys can avoid. I diagnosed the issues, fixed them DIY style for cheap, and then go for a leisurely cruise in my super quiet and slow cop car. Oh, and wait for how awesome the rev matching is in this car! It's seriously cool. Enjoy the show!

After I watched the original Legit PPV series, I had to have one! I searched the auctions for months and finally got a 2014 Caprice with only 68,000 miles. Only paid $6,500. California car no rust. Love that car. I park it on the street in front of my house. No more crime!
I can't thank Alex enough for his inspiration!
Wow, great deal! Congrats!
Any mods?
How many hours were on it? What type of problems did you have? What did you replace?
Considering one myself.

I had a white Crown Vic ex cop car right after high school and when I first got it I would prank my friends by pulling up to their houses or parties in it… never thought about crime deterrent effect of having a cop car in front of my house as an adult though, now I think I need one again…
Great random troubleshooting video. Love the old style videos.
Thanks brother! Appreciate you always being here.
@@LegitStreetCars,
I have one question, apart from the Mercedes giveaway on your previous video, do you plan to do another giveaway on your next project car??? Perhaps the Black Grand National or the white Corvette???
Yup I second that comment. Awesome to get back to the older style content from time to time.
Electric cars are hypocritical. Look at the amount of specialty metals and rare earths compared to aluminum and steel in an ice car. Now look at Lithium required and where it's mined and human rights violations. Not to mention the amount of great oil and gas technical jobs lost that were employing Americans and Canadians. It's also in cold weather the ice shines (no pun intended). You get immediate heat as well quick refill. You can wait upto 30 hrs waiting for charge and due to cold weather and keeping battery warm 1/2 the mileage per charge.
Where are my LS guys at? Whatcha got! My current LS collection is my 2001 WS6 Trans Am, 2011 CTS V Wagon, 2012 Chevy Express 3500, and the Caprice.

Jesus Alex, fix the freaking headliner on that Caprice
Right!

@@LegitStreetCars opinions on suede headliner?
That adjustable thing is a quarter-wave resonator, sometimes called a Helmholtz resonator. The reason it's adjustable is not to change the exhaust tone as a whole, it's so that you can eliminate drone at a specific frequency where the length dictates the resonance frequency (more specifically, it's based on 1/4 the wavelength of the drone).
Holy cow, 3 years already?? Time flies, it felt like just last year you were doing the rebuild.. Keep up the amazing content!
@11:43 "This Caprice has been such a trooper since I bought it." - Alex.
No pun intended. 😉
*23:00** FWIW (everyone reading this), if your car acts weird once 30 seconds has passed, it's probably related to 'closed loop' operation. First 30 secondsish are open loop on the MAP sensor.*
As a G8 GT owner your original DOD delete videos drew me to your channel. Looking forward to seeing more on it
Hey where is Peter these days , not seen him in recent videos
where has peter been ?
Love how you diagnose and fix the mechanical fault and later go for a drive Alex.
thumbs up
Caprice is back on the road.
That was an amazing display of ‘spidey sense’ to track down that broken plug! Imagine taking it to a shop and having it returned after a week with no clue!!! Well done!!!
Thank you for the wonderful content my mother and wife recently passed away and your programs are the only enjoyment I have found since then. I wish the best for you!
Very sorry for your loss.
Damn man, I’m sorry for your loss. I never realized how much my mom had my back as an adult until she passed this past December. I hope you’re able to smile again brother.
@@gregkrueger331 thank you times are tough went homeless currently watching the video in a bus stop
Jesus. Life can be ruthless sometimes. Hope better times come around brother. Cheers from Europe.
That is so life altering, I hope you're eventually able to return back to living your normal life.
Maybe you should look into getting a nice car to help distract yourself, you'd be really surprised about how many cheap but amazing and quick used cars exist. That's what I did when I was in a similar situation & at least for me it helped a good bit.
Alex is so calm when diagnosing an issue that would make most shade tree mechanics freak out 😂
Just for a future reference, you can flip the injector upside-down and back flow ithe injector. Sometimes that helps a bit better.
Don't you love it when that ominous noise turns out to be something simple.
When I first heard it I was like "noooooo."
@@LegitStreetCars that noise is a new one. Gotta remember it. I've seen spark plugs get loose and you can hear the compression leak by. I've had some Ford's whistle when failed. But an intermittent squeak is definitely different. Especially when you had it out and looked at it prior. Random
My 5.3 had a bad oring on oil pump pick up it had low oil pressure
@@lindseyspano2021 that's common, and so is the oil pressure sending unit reading max psi.
Where is Peter 😢
I love this channel. The long format is awesome. It kind of reminds me of the power black days, but instead of just bolting on sponsored junk, you actually investigate and fix things. This is a huge asset for anyone curious about what real diag work looks like.
I've had this exact issue with NGK plugs a lot lately both in and out of the shop. I wont even bother wasting time with them anymore.
Excellent methodology and troubleshooting. Usually hardest of all is the diagnosis, without just randomly throwing in parts into it!
Well done mate all the way from Australia 👌🏻
I kind of want to send you some Holden badges for it.
Yeah brother, Rj in Oz
Dang, I miss working on my Trans Am. Engine was so easy to work on. It's always cool to see your thought process in diagnosing the issue. Cutting that injector open was just funny, I got a laugh out of it. Great job in making an unexpected problem into such an entertaining and informative video.
Where's Peter???😢
He left for a new job.
Happy, happy to hear the Caprice running on all eight again.
Always great to see you take the time to properly diagnose and repair the issue with your vehicle. SBC is a great engine, also I have had good luck with the Ford 302. I was in Florida and took a Airboat tour and the boat had a supercharged LS engine with straight headers, awesome power and sound, had to wear earplugs. I highly recommend the airboat rides, incredible power and reliability.
Let’s get this Saturday morning going (and maybe some engine carnage???)
Late Saturday night here, but I'm down to find out what's wrong here, Rj in Oz
Said it many times and ill say it again: your caprice is a legendary car and arguably my favorite on the channel. Glad youre keeping it forever!
It was also the car build that led me to your channel. The video of you buying it popped up on my recommended page and the rest is history!
Very nice repair, i think, the troopers wants the car back now
Wheres Peter at ?
Love this video. My favorite so far. The diagnostic skills and the proper tools combined with that knowledge is SO damn fun to watch you work Alex. You have a great channel👍🏻🫵🏻👊🏻
This is such a sweet car! Growing up in Florida seeing these coming up behind you always scares the crap out of you, especially if you are going a little faster than you should. I would LOVE to have this car! Sounds do damn good!!!
That is one of my favorite cars you built.. The step by step series rebuilding that engine in your old garage was Awesome.. Nice to see it once again.. Great edition very entertaining.. Thanks Alex..
I'm Happy for you and Caprice Alex.
Great video Alex. Loved the diagnosis progression. The PPV sounds so awesome. How long did it really take to figure out the bad fuel injector and spark issue. Keep up the great work!!
Wow Alex that was a crazy hard diagnosis! Great Job! On video it sounded so much like it was something spinning that was making the sound. I would have thought perhaps a bearing inside the engine or accessories. But on video it might sound a lot different as well. Great stuff!!
Caprice PPV again FINALLY!!!! im so excited to see more of this car. one of my dream cars NGL.
Always a great sunday morning here in Sydney Australia having a morning cuppa and watching the weeks LSC video. Love rhese longer videos delving into trouble shooting issues and fixing them
Just feel weird without Peter! Where’s Peter?! 😂😂😂
🤣
If you ever decide to cut one in half or anything small. Score it with your dremel. Then use a jeweler's saw. Very cheap and safe. More precise cut.
Alex glad you almost at a million subs. You actually work on your cars and finish your projects. I just really enjoy watching an actual master tech work. Thank you.
Everyone loves your machine Alex!! Godbless you!
Hi Alex. Great too see you bro. I swear that it looks so simple when we look at the way you figured out what's wrong and then fixed it. Yes Alex your a bloody genius. That LS engine sounds 😮 awsom and it looks so COOL. £8000 of pure FUN. You look so happy driving around lol 😅😅. I got a button too press. Chat soon. 😊😊
The Chevy sounds better. Glad you where able to fix it! She’s an awesome car and rips! Love the rev match! The bloopers at the end crack me up!
Both front doors need a large LSC logo decal to give it a squad car look.
I love this channel, .and the bloopers makes it humble and more relatable! :)
I am building this exact car. I am having the engine done at the machine shop now. I can't wait until I get it on the road. I followed your build so watching this makes more excited. Thanks for a great channel. One question. Did you ever buy racing slicks and if so what tire size did you go with.
Thanks again Alex you rock.
Next time you have clogged fuel injectors, let me know! I run an industrial x-ray CT machine and will be able to see inside of it without tearing it apart. I can scan it and generate some fly-through videos.
That's really cool! Can you email me at legitstreetcars@gmail.com
Less than 45 seconds in I was saying that's a spark jump! Glad you found it and the injector. The info on the injectors might be helpful on a '02 model engine that I have with 4 hole injectors. Always looking for better performance. Thanks Alex !
One of your best sounding cars!! Love it...
The J pipes are for attenuating drone like Solo said, and it seems the optimal length for the pipe is 30.5". Someone online did some math to figure that out and when I built my own J pipes I used that length. It totally killed the drone on my '14 Caprice, which was impressive due to how ear splitting it was before.
Glad to see some more Caprice content! Hopefully you decide to LSA the car around the time I'm doing the same. Would love to see your video on something like that!
Even if you aren't getting a lot of extra power from E85, it has cooling benefits as well. I almost wonder if you'd get more power after another tuning session with the new injectors, the old ones were looking tired. Really need a ton of flow for that corn juice.
Finally more Caprice content... I'm slowly modifying my "Holden WM Caprice" into a "HSV E3 Grange", so all the Caprice content is really appreciated so i can see what i may want to do to my own Engine at some point!
Great vid filled with ups and downs, triumph at last paired with real relief.
You could also check the resistance in ohms of each spark plug with a multi meter. There could be a vast difference in resistance/ohms between all 8 spark plugs.🤔🤯
Might be asking yourself “Alex how do you stay so good looking?” 😂😂
He does use those anti-hair loss products!
Really appreciate you showing us your diagnosis flow, everybody loves a mystery!! Also, maybe reward the LS with a new headliner??
Great video Alex!
As always, súper video, really appreciate all the efford you put on this for us. Don't ever change.

Gotta say, being from Europe and seeing American cars and roads makes it different. The outside footage is definitely a fantastic touch. 😁
It's an Australian car (american engine and gearbox)
I’ve learned something new about what jumping spark sounds like. I would have used my automotive stethoscope to track it down a little quicker though. Now I’m going to go put my Q7 motor back together. Happy Saturday Alex!
Thanks Ozzy, you too!
Have a better time than me then, my q7 got totalled on Wednesday morning by a dui driver.
@@kevinmountford4541 I hope everyone is okay, I bought mine as a project and it snowballed into me replacing a piston which included a lot of while you’re in there stuff. Just putting the short block back together today
Hey Alex, Love the Caprice! May I ask you about your choice of Fullway tires? The prices looked great and when I looked them up found they are manufactured in China! Tried some cheaper Chinese-made tires a few years back and had huge issues. Will be looking to see how you make out with them!!
Bruh, I love that caprice!!!... Sleeper Ex cop car, 4-door chevy.... Always a A+ in my book!!!
This was a killer video Alex thanks man
Did I miss something? Where’s Peter?
I went to the Australian distributor of Amsoil recently and we chatted about the Holden performance company , HSV who sent customers to him for Amsoil as it was best for their highly tuned motors. He tests the oils for customers at the CAT Diesel Headquarters across the road in their laboratory and amazes them with its quality and performance in diesel motors small and large. The Cummins guys nearby allow Amsoil to be used by owners in their maintenance program due to witnessing the 1 million (mile or kilometre i dont remember....) regular teardown ( as a maintenance schedule) and seeing that the oil stays clean and the motor is like a third of the normal expected wear............This Man had so many stories of great outcomes from AMSOIL! He has a HSV Ute and build and maintains Honda race cars for a local race series in Australia. he is passionate! He got me into using the right Amsoil for my high mileage Volvo V8 and my Volvo T6 turbo engined cars both Signature 5/50 as the T6 is also high mileage and also fluid for the transmissions! So far my XC90 V8 is sounding sweeter and revving so much better , may have a little more power from my butt dyno........Amsoil is the ONE!
Great video Alex with with a lot of learnings for the average garage mechanic.
I love your injector tool! Cool how it works and a great visual for CZcams. Idk why you're the only one I've ever seen with it
Driving my '12 Caprice PPV is the most fun I've ever had in a car.
This video showed me things that I needed to know.
Thank You
I had a similar sound on my 300m turned out to be the timing belt was slapping the tensioner failed. Good thing belt didn't jump
Got lucky!
Great work - I can believe how upbeat you remain thru adversity - INSPIRING ! ! !
A mate of mine connected a 9volt battery to an injector (to open the valve) and then sprayed carby cleaner and compressed air and it worked great
No Peter 😢
Big sad without Peter you two clearly had fun when you were together.
I've got the same squeak in my truck.... thought it was maybe the OG belt but that sounds too familiar... thanks for this perfect video at a perfect time!
Great Video! I learn something new on every show. This week I learned how to temporarily fix a fuel injector and how many tires I can get into a nice Caddy SUV. Love it. Thanks again Alex.
Thanks for watching!!
Love your videos 👍🏻 but what has happened to Peter? Haven’t seen him in a long time.

I got super excited seeing videos on the caprice but then I got even more excited seeing the red cobra inside the shop hoping it’s getting ready for work and videos
The thing is pissed for having to sit for so long🤣🤣🤣🤣
I definitely gave it some one in this one to make up
I like how wacking things on cars is sometimes a legit way to make them them work. I used to work as a kid at this place that repaired MGBs. I took one on a parts run / test drive and the car didn’t want to start on my way back. Call the shop and when he told me to tap on the fuel pump (which is obviously external to the tank on the MGB) I was a bit surprised when that actually worked and the car started. Also, I’m a Chevy guy, got the LT2 in my C8. I like that Caprice though.
Great video of easy to harder steps of diagnostics. Use ear first to pinpoint noise. Then go from there. It will save you riping apart parts. Then ODB2 codes first. Then with pulling individual spark plugs first while running. Then pull individual plugs check color, then bore scope if needed. Thank you for the great video. Your diagnostic methodology helps see issues. Whats the chance of having a bad plug as well injector. BTW love the custom headliner....perps destroyed it 😅.
It knows Peter is gone
It's a pity GM decided to shut down Holden in Australia. We made great cars and would still be if corporate hq's didn't have their heads up where the sun don't shine. Great video Alex. From Australia 🇦🇺 🇦🇺🇦🇺
It's pretty difficult having a healthy domestic car industry when both major brands are owned by overseas entities.
Why do you think the Commodore and Aus Falcon were never sold in the USA? Because GM and Ford didn't want to compete with themselves.
No money in cars, sedans and wagons, can't write money on a 30k 5% margin car when a 100k suv gives you 15% margin.
Bright shiny thing.
