That pallet fork is unforgiveable imo. How could they do such a massive oversight? This was meant to be flawless, even back then, and its not. Would be hugely let down if I owned this piece and could never unsee the lack of finish.

What a marvel! I was hoping you would show the winding and looking at the mainspring being wound up. The barrel is always closed in other watches and never seen. This would have been a first! ;) Cheers from Portugal

One can assume that spare parts for this watch are rare as hens teeth.
Seeing the raw backside of the fork is kind of enlightening for us. We get to see what it looked like before they began the polishing. The "before and after" coexist.🤔
simply , near perfection in every detail. and this is why luxury watches worth what you pay for .
What you say about quartz watches is so true. I have a $125 Fossil that gains one second in two months. I use my internet connected smart phone to check it which basically reflects accurate time taking from the internet being as accurate as when it collected the last time sample off the net.. Usually a second or two.
But we do have our love of mechanical watches, rational or not, like it or not. I'm part of the crowd and I very much appreciate your channel as a hobby watchmaker myself, and consider your channel to be a high standard of executing the craft to shoot for myself. Thank you so much for your contribution to the world of watchmaking.

I'm always amazed at some of the skeleton watches that come out of china. Some have dual balances, some are Tourbillion movements.
What gets me is how inexpensive they are. They can usually be purchased for somewhere between $100 and $200 USD brand new.
Nice watch, but Kalle did you realize it has a problem? Escape wheel is stopping for a fraction of second once a while (probably once per revolution). Probably it needs maintenance😎.
Just look how dirty the teeth of the escape wheel are. You're right about that it needs maintenance.

It took a while to figure out why there was a hound's tooth gear engaged with the wigwag (@10:15), but I finally figured it out. It's for a click and mounted close to the gearing for the auto-winder. What's unusual is that there is seemingly more than one click. There's one next to the ratchet wheel best viewed @6:02. I haven't a clue why this arrangement was chosen. Does anybody have any ideas? I am stumped. 😕

Would be nice to see the hands on the opposite side. Surely they could have geared it to work as it is visually a better side..
Not only the rotor is 21 C gold, but the whole movement is 21 C including the wheel bridges. Pure gold is 24 C but to soft.
The reason that they used 21 C instead of 18 C gold is that it is softer and thus easier to engrave.
It seems to me that at some point in time the crystal has been replaced. Because I don't see any hour indicators.
Could it be that this is an Audemars Piguet Classique 5442...
Kalle, since you’re the pallet fork snob, I’m curious as to how you would improve the look of the dial side of this one? Is there a way to secure the pallet stones without using shellac?
Those plates don't have much mass in them. Isn't that making things flinchy or wobblely? Specially the train of wheels? Intriguing watch movement.

The decorative aspect of skeletonization has always bugged me for some reason. I think it's because it seems like a waste of someone's time if it was done by hand, and if it's not done by hand it looks like it's trying to be something that it's not that would have been a waste of someone's time. 😂😂😂 On the other hand, I absolutely love what skeletonization reveals about the interactions of the mechanical parts!
What metal is the skeleton made from?

I don't really see the point in adding text about the specs of such an exclusive watch on the movement or just any part, that is simply spoiling the esthetics. It's like these awfull race bikes with the brand name of every parts supplier of that bike in GIANT LETTERS
