    You’ve probably been advised of this, but you shouldn’t put the bellows directly on the knees or legs. It causes unnecessary stress that cause problems in the future. Try to keep one of the ends on the legs and resist the urge to bend the bellows. Push and pull as straight as possible.

    • @SqueezeboxOfDelights
      @SqueezeboxOfDelights  Před 3 lety +7

      Thanks for the advice! I'll try to follow it in future. I suppose it comes from playing the accordion, where the tendency is to use your leg to support the bellows because the accordion is much larger and heavier than the concertina.

    • @SqueezeboxOfDelights

      I can't actually remember when I bought the concertina, but I feel like this video was taken around a year - maybe two - after I started learning. It's quite a hard instrument to get to grips with initially, but it gets much easier with experience and practice :)

      Thank you! This is the McNeela 30 button Wren anglo concertina, available here:
      mcneelamusic.com/concertinas/new-improved-the-wren-anglo-concertina-2/?setcurrencyid-=4&gclid=CjwKCAjw-qeFBhAsEiwA2G7Nl22j5lj8WmklqT-t62o8gxNs5xHFy9GCKmC4rL4uyOCAHDOHp3kXFhoCKXoQAvD_BwE
      My version is pretty old, so the current one looks slightly different, but I'm pretty sure they're identical on the outside.
      Also, don't tell McNeela I told you this, but the Wren 2 is just a bog-standard Chinese-made instrument that the McNeela people stick their own badge on, and it can be found under the brands of Gear4Music, Scarlatti and others, for much cheaper than what McNeela sells it for. Just a word of advice...

      @@SqueezeboxOfDelightswait really? I have the gear4music one and was going to upgrade to a wren but if its the same then hmmm. The problem I'm having is with the size of the instrument, I have weird big awkward hands 😅

    • @SqueezeboxOfDelights
      @SqueezeboxOfDelights  Před rokem

      I'm not sure if the Wren is different to the Gear4Music one, but it's definitely not worth the price difference. I honestly don't think it would be enough of an upgrade to make a difference. If I were you I'd spend a bit more and go for a refurbished vintage concertina, which will not only be better quality, but will also retain its value! Alternatively you could get in contact with Flying Duck Concertinas, Paul makes decent little instruments and they're quite good value as well.

    Started learning concertina about 6 months ago and Oh Susanna is the only piece I can play decently from memory (Gary Coopers version). I don't suppose you would be willing to share the sheet music? Your arrangement is so lively!

      It's always good to hear about people taking up the concertina! I'd love to supply you with sheet music for my arrangement, but I play by ear so I don't actually have any. The arrangement is pretty simple, I play the melody on the right hand and do 'oom-pah' chords on the left hand. Hope this helps, and good luck with your concertinaing!

    Can you like, silence your accordion? In other words, can you play an electric accordion thats quiet like an electric guitar, and it needs to be plugged in to an amp in order to be heard? Thanks in advance for replying.

    • @SqueezeboxOfDelights
      @SqueezeboxOfDelights  Před 2 lety +4

      You can't really do that with acoustic accordions, but you can get instruments like the Roland V-Accordions, which are entirely electronic, and have adjustable volume, aux out sockets, etc. etc. In short, you can only 'silence' an accordion if it's electronic, or if you hit it with a hammer enough!

    The website says both "Key of C/G" >>and

    • @SqueezeboxOfDelights
      @SqueezeboxOfDelights  Před 3 měsíci

      Sort of. Anglo concertinas are diatonic, which means they can play in a number of set keys. Most are tuned C/G, meaning they have one row dedicated to the C major scale (C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C) and one dedicated to the G major scale (G, A, B, C, D, E, F#, G). On 20 button instruments this is all you have, meaning you can only properly play in the few scales that use those notes. However, a 30 button instrument like this has an extra row, which contains most of the accidentals (notes that the other two rows are missing), and a couple of reversals (repeted notes from the other two rows that play in a different direction). This *technically* means that it is fully chromatic, because the third row means that you can *technically* play in any key. That doesn't mean it's easy though! For example, a C/G box can play easily in C and G, but it's a bit harder to play in F or D or A, and very hard to play in keys like F# or Eb. Hope this helps!

      It's pretty simple:

      G G C

      F F F F
      C C G
      G G G G
