      I am proud to say - my kid does! He's exactly the same age as Ryan and is very like him in a lot of ways. I was brought into school many, many times and I literally have fought for my boy to be fairly treated and understood from the day he was born and I will never stop. He has ADHD and autism, and I am by no means saying he's an angel - far from it but he was used as the fall guy a lot throughout his school career. Catherine and I are extremely alike and I have handed teachers/authority figures their a$$ on many an occasion! I am not a police officer - I am in health care but I feel like some days I have missed my calling lol :) Where my boy is concerned - it's a case of never say die. It was an absolute pleasure to watch every episode of this drama, as I could relate to it in so many ways. Ryan has a special place in my heart because it's like watching my own boy's life play out on screen. Incredible, and yes - every child absolutely should have a guardian like Catherine. I sure as hell didn't and I have made it my mission that my kids are treated differently. :)

    Sarah Lancashire as always, is extraordinary. What an exciting, magnetic actor she is - hard to believe it's the same woman who played the drippy barmaid in 'Coronation Street'!
    'Happy Valley' is above all a hit because of its superb scripts and plotting. ALL TV drama (and comedy), ultimately stands or falls on the writing, and Sally Wainwright is a genius. But casting Lancashire in the lead role elevated this show to something very special indeed.
    As Wainwright herself said, 'Happy Valley' is so much more than just another 'police procedural'. It's a beautifully observed, authentic, in-depth story of one woman's trials and triumphs, and the human relationships depicted are utterly compelling.

      The storyline fell apart in the final episode though. Having spent so much time and effort invested in the story of the games teacher, his wife with drug issues along with the Asian Pharmacist, it was never properly concluded with just a few words at the end! It's as if they ran out of time to finish it properly, it made this parallel story completely pointless. Just my two-pence worth, thought it let the series down by the lack of a proper conclusion for what is supposed to be the very last series.

      How many 9-5 ers salaried jobs do an extra few hrs a wk? How many grad jobs do >10 hrs extra per week? ans:most. How many get holidays of almost 3x median? Isn't pension of teachers > median graduate pension? Why don't teachers do 9-5+ and 47wks+ per Yr? Avg person spends a ton on holiday child care/camp so why can't teachers do holiday camp within school year of 47 weeks (parents can decide to go on holiday or not during the 4 wks they are permitted!)? Also why can't teachers stay in school in the evening and oversee kids - sitting in silence - doing their homework from 3:30-5 while they their lesson plans and mark papers (private schools and boarding schools do this supervised homework so teachers can work.... and they also include sports within that time ifnecessary/requested by parebts until 6:30/7pm ie it's not impossible! ). Also, during lock down teacher's kids were allowed to attend school because they were essential workers.... Many kids are now 'ghost children' as schools did not help esp re IT access etc... Teachers were 'nothing to do with me guv... that your kid can't get IT access... My kid is in school' etc. Also, no teacher with children that I know of declined the opportunity to get their kids go to school during lock down - even teachers who subsequently stated they have physical health issues! Some of these same teachers- with kids who travelled to school and mixed with kids of front line medics and care workers (regularly exposed to worst 9f Covid in its most terrifying form) were ostensibly so petrified of Covid when it was weaker and everyone had had the jab! ie during the aftermath year they refused to teach if a child (jabbed and had previously had the bug with zero fever etc) had sat even 4 desks away from a kid who tested positive for Covid! Compared to average workers and even average graduate workers teachers should not complain... They can get an extra ÂŁ30/hr tutoring or doing 'holiday camps' during 5 out of their 11 week holiday p/a (still 6 wks clear) and/or after their 7 hr day!

    One of my favourite scenes in all of season 3, thought the bit where Ryan is waiting outside the office for Catherine and you can hear Hepworth talking to the principal assuming that because his dad is out of the picture and his granny works shifts, he'd be an easy target. Until he find out who granny is.. Also the fact the Hepworth didn't know anything about Ryan's background shows that the school really kept that on a need to know basis.

      When it comes to a child's confidentiality its on a strictly needs to know basis. Ryan's head of year may beaware of the family situation but he can't reveal the full extent to the rest of the staff, they would be aware for instance that there is a safeguarding risk to Ryan involving his father but they wouldn't know the details that Catherine revealed to Ryan's headteacher in series 1 about TLR raping Becky and Ryan being a result of that, the headteacher is bound by confidentiality she can only reveal it if Ryan is at risk and even then only to those who need to know.

    I had not seen any happy valley. Hearing all fuss being made thought I'd watch it. Yes some of it slightly far fetched and maybe too many coincidences but it is brilliant and Sarah Lancashire as always is fantastic and thank you BBC for having the guts to not release all the episodes to iplayer all at once bring back event TV

    • @paulbradford8240
      @paulbradford8240 Pƙed rokem +4

      I agree that there are a few coincidences and it would appear that Catherine is involved in rather a lot of incidents. Living in a rural area, you could be involved in more than the average Police Officer. However, speaking as an ex-Police Officer, it is one of the most realistic Police dramas on tv.
      I tend to agree about what others have said about the title, as it put me off watching the series 1 & 2. When I began to idly watch series 3 with my wife, I realised what a good program it was and immediately watched 1 & 2.

      Instead of streaming and binge watching, It was a return to how good dramas were televised 'back in the day' when they were the topic of the conversation in the workplace the next day, some 'old' things are good.

      @@paulbradford8240 I did exactly the same and became hooked right from the start of the first Series. One thing I couldn't help noticing was how the sound quality of series 1 was so much better than series 2 and 3. it's a really noticeable change from a very clear sound to a more modern mumbled variable sound that needs subtitles to follow the storyline properly.
      According to The Guardian, 40% of TV dramas are now watched with sub-titles to help comprehend the mumbled sound that they are now recorded with.

    • @jonconnington8987
      @jonconnington8987 Pƙed rokem

      I also found it a little too far fetched at times, things always resolve themselves a little too neatly like the chemist story-line. Season 3 came across as rushed and not as well written, it felt like they were setting up and repeating the same storyline from season 1 with Tommy.

      I just binged watch season 1 and 2 after seeing some of these CZcams clips of season 3. I can not imagine what you mean by far fetched or coincidental. Most realistic police drama I ever watched. Anyone is capable of anything. Crime connects with other crimes.

  • @kristinesharp6286
    @kristinesharp6286 Pƙed rokem +1

    I binged watched first two seasons having seen a number of these season 3 clips on CZcams for some reason. I think the lead actress brilliant, even the villain played it well. The lead actress and the writing really shows the gosh awful situations police have to deal with and that they deal with it by risking their physical and mental and emotional well being. And the wit brilliant. Oh my goodness. And the compassion. When they saw the red vehicle knowing the danger and then seeing the body and the OD and focusing on that alone the scene with her trying to save the women in her arms and hearing the confession. Gosh. How does a human being process all that. The instinct to save the woman. I mean she put 1+1+1 and got 3.

      @@wadefite The title makes it sound like all teachers are awful. An already overworked and underpaid profession. We don't need to insult them on top of everything else.

    • @musicloverlondon6070
      @musicloverlondon6070 Pƙed rokem +1

      Thank you for highlighting that, Taissa!
      As a rule most teachers are dedicated and work extremely hard (and yes, that also happens during the 'holidays' that people are so keen to cite). If teaching was such an easy and well-paid profession they would be inundated with applications whereas the reality is that they are now leaving in droves and it's getting harder to recruit replacements.
      They no longer just teach, they also are involved with social problems, health issues and special needs amongst their pupils and often spend their own money bringing resources into their classrooms. They also have some pupils in for breakfast and tea, thereby offering a child-minding service so that parents can get the chance to work and earn a living. Yet, on the odd occasion where a teacher is accused of behaving badly (and where the full story is rarely seen) this seems to be eagerly seized upon as an excuse to attack the whole profession. Even in dramatisations such as this one, it seems to be the case.
      I wonder what the motive was for that title and whether the person who chose it also knows their own 'place'.
