The sodium-potassium pump (sodium-potassium adenosine triphosphatase, also known as Na+/K+-ATPase, Na+/K+ pump, or sodium-potassium ATPase) is an enzyme (an electrogenic transmembrane ATPase) found in the membrane of all animal cells. It performs several functions in cell physiology.
The Na+/K+-ATPase enzyme is active (i.e. it uses energy from ATP). For every ATP molecule that the pump uses, three sodium ions are exported and two potassium ions are imported.[1] Thus, there is a net export of a single positive charge per pump cycle. The net effect is an extracellular concentration of sodium ions which is 5 times the intracellular concentration, and an intracellular concentration of potassium ions which is 30 times the extracellular concentration.
The sodium-potassium pump was discovered in 1957 by the Danish scientist Jens Christian Skou, who was awarded a Nobel Prize for his work in 1997. Its discovery marked an important step forward in the understanding of how ions get into and out of cells, and it has particular significance for excitable cells such as nerve cells, which depend on this pump to respond to stimuli and transmit impulses.
All mammals have four different sodium pump sub-types, or isoforms. Each has unique properties and tissue expression patterns. This enzyme belongs to the family of P-type ATPases.

Professor Dr. Najeeb made learning medical subjects easy. It is only him. None could make learning medical subjects easy before him or after him. Nowadays many professors try to mimic him but they are not even close to him. That's why you must subscribe his lectures and start listening to those vigorously. This is the way of success. His system worked for thousands and thousands of students & doctors and of course it worked for me also. This is my gratefulness to Prof. Dr. Najeeb.

God bless you Dr Najeeb - you have the ability to actually teach the subject matter in a constructive, organized and skillful way. This said - it leaves a lot to be questioned about the capabilities of most university senior "lectures" - the thousands of dollars we pay for education and the quality of lecturing and teaching. In fact I would go as far as to say that your high standard of teaching should be taken as an example. University of Adelaide Australia Medical Sciences see how its done by Dr Najeeb is all that I have to say. Thank you Dr Najeeb.
