I love Nick. He’s very polite and pleasant until he senses a chancer then he destroys them with fact and logic.
The product seems unnecessary because if you want absolute clarity, you can simply install a camera in the kitchen. Cameras are inexpensive, compatible with any device, and even allow you to communicate directly with whoever is in the room. The idea of a kettle notifier feels outdated and disconnected from current technological advancements.
Not everyone wants to be watched though, so people want some privacy.
This is more than 10 years old
Terrible idea, people don’t want to feel like they’re being watched in their own home
A camera is a bit intrusive.
The kettle idea isn't the best one, but not for the reasons you gave. Installing a camera in someone's house is an even worse idea, because you might see some things you don't want to see. What if grandma decides to go to the kitchen naked? You still have those devices that you keep around your neck, that can call for help with a press of a button, for example. There are no technological advancements there; they've been around for who knows how long. But the kettle isn't the best idea, because of the reasons mentioned in the video: "What if grandma just doesn't want coffee that day, or doesn't feel like getting out of bed early that morning?" and "What if something happens to grandma after she had coffee, but the family thinks she's fine, because she used the kettle already?"
Just sending this to notify everybody: i'm ok.
The kettle is broken
U ok now?
Good to hear you haven't had a mental breakdown!
I didn't get a sms about your kettle in four days. Please make a coffee so we know you're ok :(
I don’t think many of you get it and he did a poor job explaining the benefits.
This is a non invasive way of providing peace of mind
I text/call my mum every day, so that I know her and my dad are OK, the irony is she worries about me because I live alone.
If I see she’s posted on Facebook in the morning then I know she’s ok, but a device like this that lets me know she’s made her coffee or turned on the TV or whatever it is, just gives that peace of mind without needing to ask and remind the person that you’re worried about them every day
if somebody is using facebook in 2024, they are definitely _not_ okay
Buy it then.
It is a horrible idea and there are already way better alternatives.
@@user-lg6hw7li5z I don’t need to buy it, I’m building a home next to my parents.
Speaking of horrible ideas, your parents made one by having you

what if your mum or dad don't have or don't want the internet
Life Alert was founded in 1987. And provides exactly what Peter mentioned.
So to know if Grandma was safe every electronic device would have to be plugged into one of those. If she doesnt make her tea everyday i wouldnt get an alert. What if she doeant want a tea on tues ? I assume she is dead? All her electronics would need one.
"I assume she is dead" 😂
His mum was defo told to tell that made up story
That dude was a true weasel

Peetah said it perfectly.
This notifies only if someone is okay, at long intervals

I'd like to introduce my mum... to touker
He will show your mother his office spaces
He could add some SERIOUS value to that particular investment
She looks like out of a Pixar flick
He looks like a Bond villian.
The idea seems to have missed a trick - most elderly people have set routines in terms of daily habits - he picked on one (boling a kettle one up in the house) but what about others e,g, lights going off last thing at night, TV on/off monitoring, etc...
pretty sure something that checks if grandma fell down or has not moved would be 100% better than this
An Apple Watch detects unusual changes in your pulse/heartbeat and also detects collisions like a fall tonthe floor or a car accident and similar, perhaps that wasn't available when this was first pitched. But armbands with larm buttons have been available for decades, remote cameras aswell
Scammer sent packing by Deborah !
The idea wasn't a bad one tbh when you consider how bad Old people's care homes are. They are always closing down and old people have to care for themselves. Often you just want to make sure they're okay and can't always be there for them if they're hours away. The point isn't about emergency response - it's about if they're okay in the short and long term. It's alleviating that worry.
Could've made sure she had a seat ffs
What's with the constant reuploads?
There’s only so many episodes

9:40 There's no doubt Peter Jones knows the market
He valued his own consultancy to his own startup at $460k.😂
By the same logic, because I didn't charge you $1M for writing this comment, I just gave you $1M.
Peter Jones is savage!
This is the most pointless product ever engineered, worse than that box that flips a switch and turns itself off when you turn it on
Why would this have to be used with a kettle? Could it not be used for her bedside lamp or something else where if they turn that thing on the person gets notified? Why did he not suggest any other use except the kettle?
They're British.
@@vrashnar2😂😂😂😂
I think the chap should have really fought back against Peter. The invention is not really competition for medical response systems where you need an ambulance. It's for people who just wanted that little bit of extra reassurance that a loved one is OK. I know plenty of people who have elderly or disabled family members that just need an alert, not an ambulance.
Having said that, since this was filmed, cameras and apps have probably filled this gap so I doubt it would have been a good investment in the long term.
460k dollars in consultancy? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
"Consultancy fees" are a wonderfully convenient, bottomless money washing mechanism.
Sounds like a tax expense to me
I think that is a brilliant idea.

It was a different time.
But this is nothing new. Weak point depending on clouded services therefore if the internet is down then no messages. Also what happens if mum plugs a 3 point extension Adapter into to the kettle plug socket. There's going be a lot a messages saying she drinking tea non stop all day. :) The bottom line is he is using plug Adapters to do this, this is actually old technology plus it needs one for every socket you want to monitor. A more professional solution would be to connect "smart" devices (kettle, dishwasher, TV) to the clouded service, plus you will collect more useful data than just on/off from the kettle.
Remember folks, this pitch is more than 10 years old
Its not is it tho, sarah didnt even join til 2015
The episode came out in August 2015, still almost 9 years ago
So if mum drops on the floor after making the morning tea you wouldn't know about until 24 hours later. There are so many better solutions on the market and has been for a long time, this is just ridiculous
what a gorgeous little lady, god bless her heart
My name is Jenny and I don’t have a kettle so I’m out
The Help, I’ve fallen product is better.
Heh, he isn't short of a few quid.
That product sucks. Perhaps if it was connected to a heart beat sensor..
Why is he smiling all the time.

He's clearly a millionaire, so clearly his ideas are genius enough to sell and be something others go for.
I mean to be fair, some people are just dumb but lucky. But even if that’s not the case, why isn’t he using his own money for this?
