I usually don't like small cars but I would love to own a classic Mini!! The mean, aggressive sound that comes out of that cute little car is actually pretty cool!!
As a Brit had many Mini's over the years..... still have a 65 Mini Countryman, (Woody), 66 Saloon and for my 65th Birthday obtained a 1969 Morris Mini Cooper. Have enough spare parts/New old stock to build nearly 2 cars..... love the little things.....
This makes such a great noise, this follows the old alfa school of thought where its more about the act of driving than the actual straight line speed :D
Danja Bis i like that it has that deep growl to it. Not that high pitched annoying sound all the rice burners here in California have
We were storming the mini here in the UK all through the 1990s the older mini's we did them up. The famous run we meet up London to Brighton. 10 inch steering wheel nightmare if you hit a curb
what a thrill to hear that engine and watch the road handling of the car, great stuff.i got a 1275 i am getting to the end of its restoration and am excited to drive it soon. They say the previous owner sooped up the engine a bit.
In England we used to soup these up as kids. and race them. I don't think they are suited that well for American roads..you need lots of bends roundabouts and county roads for these cars to come into their own..nothing like throwing one of them around a roundabout! those were the days..
from memory the ones we drove seemed much much faster than this one..
+Michael Griffiths....yep country B roads but safest time to drive being at night so you can see lights of any oncoming car.....daytime is way too dangerous. But day or night if you hit a Badger you'll do a fair bit of damage!! Our country B roads would baffle Americans.....they'd think they were a path and wonder where the road is!!
Bulletguy07 exactly, i remember those days, you're right night driving wss the key.
what did you drive?
Michael Griffiths I was a Mini "fiddler fanatic" having owned endless from the humble 850 to Cooper 'S' and even an original Innocenti at one time. Most prized Mini though was a 1964 Mk1 i rescued from a chaps garden just in the nick of time. Buried in years of undergrowth he was having it scrapped the week i spotted it. I paid him what the scrapper had offered....£50!! I got a pal to tow me back home and set to work on it. Six months later it was back on the road and i had no end of pleasure from that car. By then Mk1 Mini's were more rare than Coopers because owners treated them as "just another Mini" so lots of Mk1's went to the scrapyard.
Where i used to work, i was lucky in that 90% of my commute was country B road which i knew like the back of my hand. It was rare to meet another car even during the day but quite common to get so far along and find one of the farmers moving his cattle across the road to another field so it wasn't a clever idea to belt it down in the day! Safer at night for a fast drive.....the worst that could happen then would be hitting a Badger in which case you'd probably be walking home!
Wait you had a drivers license AS A KID!?!?!?
B' Road beasty!
Damn, I got tears in my eyes after watching this, thats one characteristic little mini!
OK It's official; I love you guys!!! I mentioned how to youtube videos, magazine etc.
Now I'm saying you guys need to bring all the outstanding work you do to TV. Yeah that's it, A reality TV show about classic MINI's...
Engine is so loud you can't even hear the straight cut gears whining lmfao
Awesome sound.had a mini cooper in the 60 s.rog brown. Pacific sunset records
That is insane. Makes me think twice about a VTEC.
These are amazing! Fixed my ignition system via over email and ship the necessary parts to get me back on the road!
Thats the best 4 cyl. Ive ever heard
U need to listen to a Vtec
Alan Ndobo a series with itbs has no equal.
Vtec < modified a series.
Any day of the week
A series ftw!!!
This cars not made for the American roads , you need quick turns and country roads to see this shine
And roundabouts........... the sounds of my youth.
Bloody steering wheel is on the wrong side...!!
I take it the speedometer is as accurate as all mini speedometers. Lol sounds great.
That is sweet!! I can't stop watching it. Please make more videos like this one.
I'll bet that felt
Exhilarating !!!!
Grin inducing little monster. Excellent!!
I so love this video
Why is it hard to find a 1977 1978 1979 mini cooper with stock slim wheels
Jajjajaja..."hit 90 in a 25, hope we don't get busted...". Nice! Great car, and very nice where you live. You can enjoy very much your cars there!!!
Yeah baby yeah! That brings back some great memories. I hab a lot of fun in my first car, a Mini Cooper S 1310. Loved it to pieces. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! I could listen all day. Raul has the bitchin'est mini in the valley!
Loved the no bullshit straight up racing
this beats my old bugger.
Good on you mate, driving old cars is fun.
Wow takes me back over 40 years WoW
It's beautiful!!!!! That's maybe my favorite car... Every classic mini cooper has that engine?
Not quite haha
Urgent! needing a close ratio gearbox.
Damn. Made the hairs on my arm stand up.
i think the minispares hose in the radiator is upside down :p love the gearbox sound
good eye! yes unfortunatly thats where they printed the logo
Fuckin hell mate she flies
thanks man!
Jet Motors if you can make an Austin a series sound like that mate I need your secrets
This is built for British roads not American but good on you for having one
FairPlay that is beast.
It's so cute!
Why didnt you run that mini with straight cut gears 1:1 ratio with drop gears.
Let's go see Raul
They’re all about cornering speed. On British roads and race tracks they cornered fast and gained advantage on twisting and turning sections. Bigger cars fern were longer legged on the straights and could catch up or break away. The average speed in the Mini was often higher and the manoeuvring skill was what let them beat AC Cobras, Mustangs and Ford Falcons.
Your engine looked really cool and that little blast around the neighbourhood looked fun.
It’ll corner faster than you let it and would be even more of a blast to drive.
All that noise and its doing about 60. Sounds like fun.
How much bhp is it running ?
Good fun when you're that close to the floor. Did Manchester to London M6/M1 once in a bored out Mini before they ruined the Mways
What an amazing car
Love it..
What gearbox is that??? It doesn't whine like a mini gearbox
And Raul was just minding his business, cruising home at a relaxed pace when he got gang stopped by the whole detachment of State Troopers.! ...Just sayin' ...
The Mini appeared to drive very smoothly on the road. Any comments on that ?
And like all quick British cars it goes around corners correctly, even when the steering wheel is on the wrong side!
We never put the wheel on the wrong side, it's where it's supposed to be. :)
@@elemar5 The mini was designed by Sir Alec so that it handled optimally when the driver was sat on the right, not the left!
@@andrewmckenna4563 Did I disagree?
Judging by the speedo , yours takes as long as my stock 98 mini to get to 70 , haha, someone's is a little off , probably both
engine sounds so evil. yeah! definitely so much fun driving it
90 in a 25 = I enjoyed it 💪🏻
Sounds like gonna explode
OH MAN this thing is bad... Plus I love that dash!
To call this car 'boy racer' is a disservice to Sir issigonis, John Cooper and everyone who ever raced one of these excellent cars. You want boy racer? Find yourself a corsa d and chuck it round asda car park for a while 😄
How is the straight cut gearbox so quiet?
No oil pressure!?
Mr Bean's Mini has an evil twin.
I miss the whine of straight-cut drop gears, and hard to believe the gears are so long for a 5-speed. Also, why the blip on the throttle between gears when changing up?
Gary Rowe
Double clutching ?
The blip on the throttle in combination with double clutching only makes sense on downshifts - unless you are very slow on changing the gears ;-) @@geofo60
how much hp did this produce?
Giant killer
Why its sounds like an AE86???
feels like the gear ratio is a bit long?
Absolutely right
I have a 1989 mini and getting up to 100mph on uk roads with no tax insurance or Mot/ road worthy test for you Americans is the must fun for less that £1000.
My brother used to build these for a living... czcams.com/video/Iokf6aefjIg/video.html today is the 6 year anniversary of his passing to leukaemia - shame we didn't crate his shells and spares to the US... might have made more than selling them on eBay... your video made me smile!
Minis have gone up so much in value in the last couple years I bought my last one in 2011 for £1000 I could sell it for 4 times that now
Just paid $37,000 for one here in Australia.
It doesn't sound like it has a straight cut transmission to me.
Me either. Straight cut gears typically wine really loud
Glass-Man-252 Yup. It might be because they lowered the volume because the engine is really loud.
exactly. i didn't hear the gear whine
Needs a bigger cam in that...
Love it
Could you tell me the base engine model and all the modifications-parts you added to it? And also, what model is the tachometer and how do you install it? Would really appreciate it. BTW nice MINI!
click this link with all the details.......

+Jet Motors Thanks so much, btw is the car still for sale? I don't thinks so lol
no it sold immediately after we placed the ad.
+Jet Motors hahaha I would imagine, I'm currently working on a austin mini city e with a mg metro engine inside. If I have any questions I will go on your facebook. Thanks for the replies!
@@JETMotors watch my 7port😉

Aside from all the correct comments about driving dangerously re speed, remember this is a tiny motored, tiny classic car. See how they fare in classic racing.
Duh, you put the steering wheel on the wrong side.
How many horsepower?
PetrolGamer 12
48.5 bhp lol
More! More! More! Why do I only see 21 video's?
MR BEAN
Wow
Sounds like a Honda
not much of the noise is turned into speed.
No air filter leads to premature death.....I won't be getting my mini checked over by this joint if it's going to get thrashed like this one did.....
Im moving to UK soon and i want to buy a mini. How much should i expect to pay for one ?(i dont mind ugly, functional matters) and how much should i expect to pay to make it FAST!! hayabusa fast!!
£15,000 with hayabusa good condition
how much you reckon would cost to swap and make it all work? after buying the car etc...
Hi Horde, I would expect to spend around $15K. Thank you my friend! Jeremy
You could buy a classic mini for under £5000. It might already be upgraded in some aspects for that price.
+Horde Hunter Hope you found one! $15k is a bit steep. You can get a perfectly decent late 80s Cooper for £2000-£5000
Probably no quicker than a standard 1.3 in reality.
Great Mini shame it's driven on the wrong side of the road 😂👍
So many places where a kid could run out onto road from behind something
i want one\
wow it can top 50mph my old scooter was faster than that? at what point did you hit 90?????
monkeybollox66
Downhill with the wind behind is the way we used to do it back in the Olde Days.
You are driving mr.bean car
Which is the highest speed for mini cooper(1969)?if u tell me i will like your video and subscribe on ur channel
All sound and no go... gotta stick with the trusty vtec mate
It doesn't seem all that fast, maybe it's the American roads? or a dodgy speedo? sounds mental. With what's been done it should really shift. my old 998 was insanely fast,4 people with only half throttle and a 1293cc couldn't out run me ,they were like what do you have under the bonnet lol they looked pissed off when i said 998 hahaha something like 30 or 40mph in 1st, 60/70 ish in 2nd and so on...110 ish mph top speed though . didn't rev it's face off at 70 motor way speeds either
I don't wish to take away from this car, but calling it "Insanely Fast" is just clickbait. I have a Mini on my channel with 260hp, not with barely 100-110.
89bhp at the wheels is not at all impressive... #lol
Scott Chegg I also wouldnt call a mk2 golf insanely fast. Nippy, fun, quickish maybe. I have been in 250-300hp Minis. This video doesn't deserve the title that's all
I don't dispute that at all Scott, but you're taliking about gearing the car, I was talking about whp, I've personally built a 1430cc Mini engine that was 140+bhp (@flywheel), without the need for a reversed head conversion, ( Full Race Head, All Steel, L+B, Cross Drilled crank, with a 300+ Full Race cam and a Vernier Conv. running on a single 48 Weber) I ran that on a Jack Knight 4spd S/C Dog Box, can't remember what the F/D was tbh, I was 19, more than 25yrs ago lol but to 90mph there wasn't much on the road at the time that could touch it...
No Grip Okay but it is probably not a A series engine that you're talking about. And so it's not really a classic mini.
Jesus those gear ratios are dreadful!!
haha, that was not fun,in my day we always had them sideways, not going down a boring straight road
Get some filters on it! Not the best way to demonstrate the performance of a car...around a built up area at 95 in a 25 zone is simply criminal!
John McGill Speedo never passes 50...where's the 95 come from?
trevskiman That speedo is way out and it does actually show more than 50 in 3rd gear. Plus the comment at the end admitting the speed of 90 in a 25 zone and the concern about being booked via the internet. Hardly responsible driving. Lucky nobody stepped out in front of the car. Keep it for the track.
John McGill Looks like the fun police are patrolling the internet again.
If you dont mind people driving at stupid speeds in your neighbourhood thats fine, untill one of your kids gets knocked down and killed or seriously injured, then your perspective will change. Clearly not responsible driving, save it for the track
John McGill
how do you know it is way out? And saying 95 and doing it are 2 different things. I could say 'I can run faster than Bolt" but it don't make it so!
Seems slow to me.
Insanely fast? I wouldnt say "insanely"
I agree. It's not fast judging by the speedometer. But I bet it feels fast. Small, interactive cars always feel fast. That's all that matters right?
not responsible driving.
I find it funny when an American try’s to drive a British car, only revving it to 5000 and thinking its fast driving it in a straight line, Americans wouldn’t know a good road if it hit them in the face. Missed the old days when we used to thrash them down the B roads. And go on 2 wheels around every roundabout.
You can’t drive...all on the road crossings
You shouldn't drive like that past residential homes.
grow up dude. if you really wanna test drive the car to its limit, go to the racing circuit.
Boring................... Mini is at home on country lanes with the passenger holding to the bottom of the seat.
Meh looks more noisy than fast
not even. KAD is better
Easy to say now. I and others who remember this vehicle fondly understand the necessity, brought about by not only limited funds but a lack of suitable donor engines, to work with the original equipment. I guess as long as you do the bulk of the spannering work yourself the satisfaction is greater and mechanical sympathy is enhanced.
