New sub. I'm just starting out on coin roll hunting. So far its been fun. I found one 90% and two 40% in about $300 worth of rolls. I like hanging on to the bicentennials. I know they are high mintage, but I think they are cool.
Good finds so far. If you do this long enough you will learn to get sick of the bicentennials... I have boxes sometimes that are 60% bicentennials so they have lost their luster for me.
A finds a find! I had a couple good sister boxes last week! 1 with 2 67s and a 87 proof and the second with 11 40’s and a 86 commemorative proof! I wish you the best of luck next hunt GA

Call me silly,but why are proofs thicker than a business strike coin?
According to the googles... Proof half dollars are thicker than regular half dollars because they are struck with more die pressure, which forces metal out to the reeded collars, creating a higher rim. Clad proofs also have a thicker rim and more shine. For example, the 1987-S Kennedy Half Dollar is slightly thicker than the previous style. The 1992-S Silver Proofs also have thicker lettering on both the obverse and reverse than the 1964 Proofs

Hunting halfs are my favorite but haven't had any luck in a while but looking into opening another account sometime soon so hoping that changes. Especially since i have a partially filled tube of 40% Kennedy's id like to finish off. Especially now that i have a digital coin microscope i would likw to kick my hunts up a notch passed just searching my day to day pocket change. Still hoping i can come across some good doubling an a W quarter to add to the collection

True. I dipped it in some ez-Est and it actually came out really nice. Still "damaged" for a proof, but it came out looking really really nice.

I havent found ONE silver half OR a proof in over a year.Too many people hunt in Green bay, WI area due to the amount of youtube videos featuring coinroll hunting. It's been terrible lately. Ready to give up on quarters and halfs for silver all together. Dimes and nickels are the only boxes producing and not that much. I had ONE box with a bunch of NIFCs. Sad. Only found one silver quarter in 2024 so if your silver box is full, nice job, consider yourself lucky.
I have gone through long stretches of skunk boxes before and it does make the hobby less fun. Lots of hunters out there as well now, but I also think a lot of people have become more educated on what's silver and what isn't so not as much of it is making its way back into circulation. I tell this story all the time but a year or two ago I went 28 half dollar boxes in a row without silver. Finally got a box with a couple silvers. Then went on another 28 box skunk streak. It sucks... but it happens.
@@GASilverHunter Yeah, I keep pressing on in hopes for collection dumps. Sadly, that's all we got left now... ignorant family members that take grandpa's coin jars to the bank after he passes away.

Coin machines take them. Least mine do
Return to the bank rolled on my case. Others have banks with coin machines.
Total waste of time.
Some hunts are tough. Some are awesome. It’s like fishing. You don’t always catch something but you have to enjoy the time you spend doing it.
