- The Harrier is an aircraft available to all the Allied Factions. Black Eagle is the unique unit for Korea making Korea one of the best factions in-game.
Oddly enough, instead of being able to recruit both Harriers and Black Eagles for an extra cost, Black Eagles not only replace the Harriers for the same cost but are also superior to Harriers in all parts.Imagine Germany having Tank Destroyers that are great against Tanks but also keeping all the good parts Grizzly Tanks have. This is how Black Eagle works for Korea.
So, the comparison between Harriers and Black Eagles has no point since Black Eagles are much better at everything. The video can only shows us at how better Black Eagles actually are.
Harriers and Black Eagles can gain promotions but it's quite rare for them to survive long enough to gain one since any Anti-Air unit or structure is a huge threat to their weak armor. Veterancy seems not to improve them much but elite level is definitely a major improvement.
There is also a small comparison to the MIGs which are available to the Soviet Faction by their commando, Boris. Boris is able to call for an airstrike only when he targets a building so the comparison between all three could only be made against structures.
Boris can call for two MIGs which are very powerful and with a single airstrike two of them are enough to destroy any structure. When Boris is promoted to elite level, he can call for four MIGs (as if two of them weren't enough already).
A single MIG is not just equal with four Harriers but is MORE powerful than FOUR BLACK EAGLES. Now this is amazing.

The presence of MIGS, when there are no aircraft in standards Soviet arsenal suggests that your normal Red Alert commander has limited access to his countries arsenal.
Top commands rests in hands of just one man in Russia
In RA1, US after won the war forbbid USSR to have any airforce. So these MIGs are probably a few.
Actually, in RA1; Aircraft was the Soviet's best asset. They had Yak Attack Planes, Mig Strike Planes and Attack Copters/Transport Copters to aid them in combat. It helped them out greatly, because in RA1, the Soviets had minimal ground forces, so the extra air support was a god send to help secure victories that your armor muscle just couldn't break through. Having a group of Migs swarm an annoying base was ideal in conjunction with Mammoth Tanks and Heavy Tanks.
After RA1 however, the Allies broke up the Soviet's superior air force, figuring it would stop them from ever being a threat again. Instead, it simply encouraged them to find ways around that rule; such as with Kirovs (do blimps count as standard aircraft? It's in a grey area), the Migs and Siege Copters arrived in Yuri's Revenge when the Soviets had already broken the treaty, so they were rolling out weapons they were previously forbidden to use. This is also why in RA3, where the victory of RA1 was nullified; they also have Migs and the new Twinblade Helicopter (feels like a superior Siege Copter with the weapons of the old Mig and Yak).

Since I always played in Korean dubbed version, never knew the Black Eagle sounded like that in English version!! Quite accurate pronunciation for a Korean pilot though.

Black Eagles are a lifesaver. If you play with super weapons turned on, you'll definitely want at least 8 of them. That's how many it takes to destroy a super weapon or construction yard in a single bombing run. And believe me, it can buy you valuable time when it comes to the lightning storms and nuclear missiles. And with a little micromanagement, you can maneuver them around the worst AA defenses and take out the con-yard for a really crippling blow.
Much better than the standard Allied Harrier and that's why I always play as Korea.

They also counter the usual anti-air the enemy has. IFVs and Flak Tracks get 1 shot by Black eagles. Not Gattling Tanks though.
The only problem with Boris' MiGs is that you have no control over them, so they'd run the risk of getting shot down when flying straight into the enemy's dense AA defenses, so in terms of practicality, the Black Eagles are the best aircraft in vanilla YR.
using black eagles against superweapon is waste of money.
I always just chose Black Eagles because they looked badass. Didn't realize the difference between it and the Harrier was that staggering.
In real life, South Korea's Black Eagles are a world-renowned aerobatics group. I got to watch them during an airshow in Singapore years ago, and boy they were amazing :)

I think most impressive thing about Black Eagles is that they can one-shot basic AA vehicles and four-shot Apoc. On top of almost killing Miners and double-squadding ConYard.
They can’t 1 shot gattling tanks.

Afaik, you can select multiple buildings for showcasing their health, but you can only do so by holding shift and clicking them one-by-one.
One thing I would have liked to see is a test on the firing range for the harriers and black eagles. That elite eagle looks like it could fire its rocket from far further away than the harrier.
Maybe you could put them on the same port and then test attacking a tank at different ranges after takeoff. Testing normal harriers vs eagles + veterans and elites would be helpful.

Y'all can tell MiG has the superior Firepower but they're available only when Boris marks the Structure.
I forgot to mention this: 😁 if you have RA2 Ini Editor, you can edit Harrier/Black Eagle and change their projectile/attack type from Maverick 1/Maverick 2 AGM to Maverick 3 AGM. You need to save it, then run the game, then back to INI Editor, then save Changes to the Game. Note: During the Intro of INI Editor, you need to Choose RA2YR not RA2, there are some Editables in C&C Generals and C&C Tiberium, but they dont apply to RA2/YR, Generals and Tiberium like RA2/YR, game changes only apply to the owned game not other games.
Isn't that if you keep pressing Alt and point onto some point, the plane will eventually fly ovre the area like Sige Chopper? coz I remember using BE use that Alt Click on Enemy's Prism Tower and then it landed on the tower, although haven't done in years
MIGs are OP :D
4 MIGs are needed because MIGs travel across the map to reach the target. They can be shot down so 4 is to ensure you still have some remain to attack the target in case running across anti-air defense.
Not necessarily, the MiGs spawn on the edge of the map closest to where Boris is. For example, if Boris is at the left side of the map, the MiGs spawn from the left side. Boris can be very quick to take out bases that are on the edges of the88 map.
Spawning-on-the-edge-of-the-map-closest-to-where-Boris-is does not mean they can not be shot down by anti-air defense. When the MIGs move to anywhere in the map, there is a chance they will be targeted by anti-air units / buildings. If there are only 2 MIGs the chance they ALL got shot down is higher than when there are 4 MIGs.
One-Soul-a-Time I didn't say that MiGs can't be shot down even before reach their target. I just said it's not always the case that they'd be shot down.

Both comparisons with the Apocalypse tanks were not fair simply because when you attacked them they self heal so comparing their health afterwards wasn't accurate... and on the second comparison when you attacked with them I think the harrier escaped its missile?

4 MiG attack will destroy any type of buildings in one shot, presuming none of them are shot down.

One aspect I think often gets overlooked about the Black Eagles.
While they have higher damage; this comes at the cost of slower speed, and weaker armor. A squad of them can easily decimate a construction yard, war factory, or most major structures. So to keep it balanced, it's super easy to knock them out of the air if you see them coming and prepare for it.
Because of this, players using the Black Eagle Jets really need to pressure their opponent so they can't just drive a bunch of AA to intercept the Black Eagles. I find they are best used in conjunction with a full frontal attack, so while the enemy is trying to hold you off; "wait, where did my War Factory go?"

I think if you initially play as Korea, then take over a non-Korea Air Command HQ, you can gain Harriers. I think.
By playing Allied faction those not Korea, use Engineer to capture Tech Secret Lab and hope that you get Black Eagle from it -> It will replace your Harriers so if all of already existed died, you will not able to build them again. (except the Tech Secret Lab is destroyed or captured by other players)

The issue with Korea is once you’re dedicated to building planes it’ll all go downhill with one spiky boiii
The biggest problem that makes Black Eagles not as strong as this may show you is that units that are moving will take less damage from a Harrier/Black Eagle shot. Not totally sure of the specifics why, something to do with Projectiles and Warheads, but you can very clearly see this.
Black Eagles are mainly better at sieging than Harriers, and not necessarily picking off units, because Harriers are way cheaper which makes them way better at sniping units (get them faster, meaning you get more shots, easier to replace, less of an investment, about same effectiveness against moving units) while the extra health and damage on Black Eagles contributes more to them being good at sieging, because they can survive AA better and will deal way more damage to buildings, and less good at sniping, because of the aformentioned issue.
Korea can build Black Eagles at the cost of 1200 which is the same as Harriers

They do not have self heal, they only heal when staying on airforce HQ. Try damage one and fly'em around for a bit, they won't heal unless you land them.
you can repair a plane on a service depot by selecting the plane and alt + clicking the depot, nothing will happen at the first time but after the plane is retreating alt + click again and it will land on the service depot and get repaired :)

Justinas P. That means you'd have to compare it to an elite sniper too. Which also has more range. Though when you ask me about utility Viruses can ultimately kill large infantry groups faster. A Sniper IFV however shoots 33% faster with a whopping 14 range-- non-elite compared to a Virus IFV. So it evens out, I guess?
