    WHAT IS VITAMIN B12 DEFICIENCY:
So, what is B12? Well, B12 is an important nutrient that our body needs. We all need a certain level of it to help keep our nerve and blood cells healthy.
And if you’ve seen some of my other videos, you may already be familiar with iron deficiency anaemia, which is when your body doesn’t have enough iron in your blood. B12 deficiency anaemia is similar to this and is where you don’t have enough B12 in your blood.
Long term, a B12 deficiency can lead your body to create blood cells that are much larger than normal to compensate, something known as megoblastic anaemia, and as a result, your blood cells lose their ability to function properly. It can affect anyone of any age, but you’re more prone to it if you’re over the age of 60 or have a vegan diet.
Without B12, we can suffer complications as serious as heart failure and nervous system damage. But what causes it? Well, the most common cause is a condition known as pernicious anaemia, which is where your stomach doesn’t produce enough of a certain protein known as Intrinsic Factor. Without this, your body can’t absorb B12 from food and it can lead to you not getting enough. This can sometimes be due to your immune system attacking its own stomach cells and is a lifelong condition.
Other causes of B12 deficiency include drinking too much alcohol, certain medication, long-term conditions that affect your gastro-intestinal tract, such as Crohn’s or Coeliac disease, and malnutrition. But for more information on this, I’ll leave some useful links in the description below.

I have a question about the food supplements. Methylcobalamin is very popular. It also has sublingual form. What do you think about it? Does it help when levels of bqw are low?

Is pernicious anemia genetic? I see my 14 year old daughter starting to deal with similar issues I'm having... should I have her checked as well?
Do I continue taking iron supplements? With or without the B-12 injections?

I was put on Cyanocobalamin then told I needed to stop those and go on ferrous sulphate then to stop those and go back on Cyanocobalamin as my levels kept changing in my bloods. Is this normal? My mum has pernicious anaemia, can it be hereditary? Thanks xx

Thank you so much for this video, my friend, who is a vegan, is extremely lethargic and averse to exercise, I at first dismissed it as laziness, but I then thought that it's so extreme that there had to be something else, she doesn't really eat just 3 meals a day, she just snacks constantly without ever being able to eat much in 1 go, and she often eats junk like doritos and sweets sometimes and doesn't eat much fruit and veg (she takes a multivitamin, but I don't know what it contains) which makes me strongly suspect a nutritional deficiency like vitamin b12 or iron (I am not a health professional, so I can't say anything with certainty, but I certainly think it's the most probable explanation). If there aren't any ready meals in the house, she just won't eat anything. Ready meals, vegan sausage rolls, doritos and sweets are not good things to live on (at least she eats nuts, so that's one healthy thing she eats)
The big problem is that even though I've suggested going to the doctor about her just extreme lethargy, she's in total denial of there being a problem, to the point at which I've just given up, sometimes people are absolutely fixed in their ways and there's nothing you can do about it
it's at a point where to go home, she takes a different bus which goes later and makes her get home 30 minutes later just to walk 70 metres less

Hi Abraham, I have heard the algae like spirulina and seaweed are good for b12. However could be poisonous or pseudo forms of B12 (in the case for spirulina). Could you please give me some more informed/ better information about it?

These are B12 analogues, & are inactive but may count in a serum B12 blood test. Most GP's do not test Active B12 anymore, so the only way you would be able to confirm B12 deficiency is test for Homosycteine & Methylmalonic acid.
