  • Other than a dead battery, the most common problem with car key fobs is a broken eyelet. The Fix-it Guy demonstrates how you can rebuild and repair it yourself with the use of epoxy putty.

    You are the BEST boyfriend, ever! Thank you for fixing my key ring so beautifully (and cheaply). The dealer wanted $300 for a new fob, what nonsense!

    Every video I watched on this suggested to replace the whole housing. I knew there was a way to actually repair it! Thank you! Subscribed!

    So i have a nissan key fob which the plastic for the key ring broke a bit and it doesn't have a hole on either side or enough thickness to drill a tiny hole for the wire. What would you suggest in my situation? Don't really like that I can't have my fob on the keyring along with my keys....

    Anyone i have read about said the dealer wanted a lot more than $100. More like $300-350. Here in Canada a locksmith gave me a quote of roughly $190 plus tax to make a new key and program it. The other option given me was to buy a shell online for about $15 and that he would charge $10 to cut the blank key of the shell to match. You have to transfer the button module over and CAREFULLY cut the transponder out of the broken FOB to transfer it. It was for a family member, if my own, yeah i probably would try the glue method. Meanwhile he cut a blank key for me and said some choose to just glue the FOB to it. I just hung it on a keyring. Then hold the FOB along with the key to start the car. I was hoping having it just hang was close enough but NOPE car would not start. I read online that most transponders have about a 7" range. Just had to hold the FOB for 2-4 seconds beside the key after starting until communication took place. This wasn't a broken eyelet, it had broken the housing.

    What is that wire called

    • @ItsFixable
      @ItsFixable  Před 3 lety +2

      It's called "tie wire" in the construction world Tiffany, because it's used in the building industry to tie things together. it's usually available in different thicknesses (gauges) at a hardware store. I think that was about 18 gauge, but it doesn't really matter. Picture wire would work, or even a little piece of copper electrical wire with the plastic insulation removes. The objective is simply to have something you can bend to shape that will provide core strength for the putty to adhere to.
