    Some lineages of wing chun also have the abbott as the founder and older family styles also have 1 form. Honestly, there are way more similarities than there are differences, especially so in the lineages that came into contact with each other. Thank you for sharing the videos.

    O.K. History is the key. In that way let's add that Ng Mui taught the new art to the teenage daughter of bean-curd vendor Yim Yee Gung who lived in the village at the bottom of Tai Leung Mountain. Shortly before Ng Mui’s death, she named her student Yim Wing Chun since the girl had been entrusted with the art’s future. Ng Mui decided to call the art "wing chun" after the Wing Chun Hall in which she and the other elders (such as Jee Sim) had held their discussions.

    history is a key to understand what the art is and it's differences

    Both weng chun and wing chun's first chinese charactor is very similar, one of which is "詠", one of which is "永" so do their phonetic. That remind me of 形意拳 and 心意拳. You simply rely on the oral history of some streams like yip man streams and the name of diff strokes. Your viewpoint is quite diff with some weng chun pratitioners found from Tang Yik and Tai Tak Lak's webpage. Kindly take reference to yip kin wing chun, cho's family wing chun, viet nam wing chun, shun tak wing chun, guangzhou wing chun. Kindly note that there is some deviation due to diff background of teachers and students. Some of the forms have been simplified or enriched. For instance, Chan's style Tai Chi and Yeung's style Tai Chi. So you cannot simply say that wing chun is diff with weng chun because it is lake of some stokes or forms. Basically what you illustrate is basically yip man stream only. Peoples have their subjective altitude and pre-inclination toward history too. Some forms and weapons have been lost as those system are not taught in public. It's quite interesting that both wing chun and weng chun teacher are not keen on teaching their martial art openly until now. Both have bong sau tang sau & fau sau. Both have sam bai fat strokes. Both illustrate similar style & technique in woody dummy. I found Wing Chun and Weng Chun are closely related, closer than wing chun pak hok and hung kuen. Beside, I note that 太虛拳 and 八卦掌 share common feature with wing chun, weng chun.

    Hmm some stuff is off about this. your info is different from other weng chun even. I thought they are quite similar as Chi sim most likely told his students to make sure he wasnt found out. and Fung siu ching taught Yuen kay san ... So you have missed that out. Wing chun also has pole and knives ? so does yuen kay sans which was from Fok bo cheun and Fung siu ching . So im quite sure they are more similar then you think.

    • @vingdragon
      @vingdragon  Před 9 lety +4

      SoyaSaaauce They are might be similar but not the same. The Yuen Kai San lineage comes rather from Fok Bo Chuen - not Fung Siu Ching. If so why their teaching program not includes material that is taught in Weng Chun branches? Heaven Wooden Dummy, One hand form instead of Three, Kiu Sao instead of Chi Sao drills,,, etc,,, etc

      VingDragon thanks for the reply. I have read that yuen kay san learnt from Fok Bo Chuen, and then continued learning from Fung siu ching when he was old. and im quite sure that is a fact not speculation. I have no idea why the strucure it the way they do as I havent learn yuen kay san. But I know a few wing chun and weng chun both claim fung siu ching.

      SoyaSaaauce Also. even cheng kwon says weng chun and wing chun both come from chi sim on the red boat?

    • @vingdragon
      @vingdragon  Před 9 lety +3

      SoyaSaaauce what we know today from media is an "official" story that fits our needs. Problem is that most families were not so open in sharing in the past so someone had to create a new stories to gain public.

    • @vingdragon
      @vingdragon  Před 9 lety +3

      SoyaSaaauce at that time in Foshan there was only Leung Jan and Fung Siu Ching famous for their Yong Chun teachings. People usually stick to their names and often exaggerated saying they are their teachers. It is a fact that Yuen family were taking care of last days of Fung Siu Ching indeed. More questions are also unanswered.

    Does Weng Chun also have any kicking?

    • @vingdragon
      @vingdragon  Před 5 měsíci +3

      Excellent question. The answer is "No". WengChun method doesn't have any kicking techniques, however it has leg control and pushes, sweeping and stomps.

    I thought weng chun had more than 1 empty hand form. Weng chun kuen/sap yat kuen, fa kuen, sam bai fut,sheung/siong kuen and chong kuen. then the wu dip dao and luk dim boon kwan and the muk yang jong

    • @vingdragon
      @vingdragon  Před 2 lety +3

      Nope. Whatever you saying comes from particular family and their interpretation of the art. Weng Chun core includes only basic techniques that you can practice as sequences or choreographed form plus blind folded sticky hands to develop sensitivity. Additionally there is wooden dummy and wall hanging punching bag and weapon of choice. Collecting many forms is a total misunderstanding of the art. Unless you doing it for business and selling many of them by teaching. I hope my answer is helpful

    i do not notice wrong/righte--only different histories

  • @kwtandrew
    @kwtandrew Před 10 lety +5

    This video is confusing history. Ng Mui, Yim Wing Chun are all thought to be mythical characters, so their inclusion in the family tree is like including a dragon. There is no credible evidence that they existed, nor any mention of them prior to 1930's. The comparison about the weapons is also pointless? Wing Chun has pole too. What's more, different lineages use different forms for the double knives.

    how come the Yuen Kay San Wing Chun descends from Fung Siu Ching?? It is a well documented fact that Fung Siu Ching taught GM Yuen Kay San.
    Also, many Wing Chun and Weng Chun schools both consider Fung Siu Ching to be their master. And still we find difference in forms?
    :)

    "Yi Chum was the true founder of Wing Chun and taught Tan Sau Ng, who taught Dai Fa Min Kam, Wong Wah Bo and Leung Yee Tei(Leung Jan's teachers) and so on until Pan Nam." I think Pan Nam and Ip Man were classmates but Yip Man only taught the painted face wing chun to select students.

    • @vingdragon
      @vingdragon  Před 8 měsíci +1

      okay, in what year Yi Chum created his style and what material was that ? How many forms and which weapons ? May I ask where your info is coming from ?

    • @Lolitocat
      @Lolitocat Před 7 měsíci +1

      Pan Nam was a disciple of Jiu Chow who was a disciple of Chan Yu Min (Chan Wah Shun's son) and Yip Man was a disciple of Chan Wah Shun, Yip Man is older than him by two generations, in fact before leaving Fatshan Jiu Chow led his disciple so that Yip Man could correct his techniques, later Pan Nam studied with Lai Hip Chi.
